2008 Football Rumblings

Joe Bauserman ... Ohrian Johnson ... Zach Domicone ... Ross Oltorick ... Flash Thomas ... Grant Schwartz ...

Let's face it ... if anyone not named Todd Boeckman or Terrelle Pryor has to take a snap this season, then the Buckeyes are in trouble.

Agree with all of those names besides Bauserman. I was honestly floored with his play in the spring game. If he gets the playbook down, he has the tools to be a good one imo. I don't think we get to the bottom of the barrel though.

I think the idea, and I was corrected myself in another thread, is next year.

We don't seem to be recruiting any QB's in this class, so next year you're looking at Pryor/Bauserman and then who???

IMO, the next best QB on this team in Johnson after those 2 guys and he probably could have played QB at 98% of the schools in this country.

Next year, I might agree with you ... but were taking about a championship run in 2008, and I just don't think Bauserman is the guy to get it done this season....

...and Pryor probably isn't the guy to carry a team through a full 13-game season either, but at least he has enough natural athleticism to make plays on his own, and that could be the "X-factor", even in big games.

Boeckman is THE GUY ... and Pryor gives the Bucks a fighting chance in any game ... but I'm not sold on Bauserman yet. If Boeckman and Pryor both go down - God forbid - then I'm saying "wait until next year".

I agree with this, LJB, Potential is a great thing but very few players make a tremendous impact their first year.

A few random thoughts; I recall thinking Justin Zwick was going to really help as a Fr. and he ended up red shirting. How fast can TP really be ready if Todd faulters? IMHO if Todd, had great, or even very good games against IL, and LSU we win both games. With Henton's legal problems we had no choice last year but to go down with the ship.

Its promising that TP has already found the film room. Everything I'm reading is saying that he is spending tons of time watching film. Tress even made a comment that he got a text from Pryor asking for Bauserman's phone # so that he could get him into the room to watch with him while Todd was on vacation.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope Boeckman stays healthy this year, as he appears to give us the best chance to win. However, I don't think we'd be doomed if Bauserman had to come in for a few games, especially if Pryor is healthy and can share snaps. If Bauserman came in say, half way through the year, I would be worried but wouldn't consider us screwed. If Bauserman came in, I would be concerned, but we may still have a chance. However, if the rest of the guys came in that you mentioned, yes, we would likely be screwed. In any event, Bauserman still has much to prove to convince me of anything but he still looks like he has the potential to take the reigns should tragedy strike.

We've gone over this before. It's a TEAM game! The QB can't be great if he has no time or help from the whole team! Todd didn't lose those games.
The whole TEAM did!

Yes, and everyone with any sense agreed that Todd did not help the TEAM much late in the season. I trust he has learned from those games. You'd better trust the same.

That was an impressive video! He showed great throwing power and was putting the ball through some tight windows... If we had to go to QB #4 I'd vote for Johnson.

A side note. Whoever that fullback/Tailback was on his HS team was a devistating blocker.

Jeez! Don't put the hex on us, RB! :tongue2: We must have Boeckman and Beanie healthy to have a shot!

It's a team game right? It would help to have Boeckman to win it all this year, and he is our best shot, but I wouldn't count us out with Pryor/Bauserman. Just the same as it would have helped if Todd would have played better at the end of the year, though his play didn't make us lose, it sure didn't help. Anyways, back to the rumbling.

Just remember how JT reined in Troy his first year. 2009 will be very interesting with the major team turnover. We could dip a bit.

Just a brief tidbit or two:

Marcus Freeman has caught everyone's attention...slightly over 250 and is stronger and faster. Set up for a huge senior season and is going to get noted on some All-America teams. He very well could be one of the best pass defending LBs in the country next year.

Orhian Johnson and Travis Howard are two kids that could be the real surprises of the '08 class...maybe not right away but they will be big contributors eventually according to our well-informed source.

Clarke could be the guy in this class that fits that same label...could sneak up the depth chart quickly with a solid RS year. He reminds the staff a lot of a young Jenkins and was right at the top of their CB board with McGee.

Any idea what position Orhian Johnson could be contributing at?
