I hear ya man. The interesing dynamic, is that the computers are going punish USC unlike any elite team in the history of the BCS. The PAC-10 is that awful.

I have a feeling, if OSU were to get to #3, with USC #2, enough voters would probably put OSU at #4 to keep their point differential as far apart as possible. From my understanding, it sounds as if it does make difference how close you are to the team dirrectly in fron tof you. For example, in the coaches poll, you can see how many points each team accumulates.

I agree with this. The big game losses have absolutely trashed our reputation..fans and voters 100% do not want to see us there again so I think they'll do everything in their power to keep us out. Hopefully this lights a fire under Tress and the Bucks.

don't sleep on UCLA taking out USC.

or on Arizona this weekend. We've all seen USC lay an egg against teams they should blow out and the Wildcats are definitely capable of a big upset at home.

I agree with those saying a close victory over PSU is the key.

The computer's rankings are not allowed to use MOV in their formulas so it wouldn't help to blow them out, plus PSU is well below us so (according to the computers) we're expected to win.

That said, beating the snot out of PSU doesn't help because then they slip in the human polls instead of us moving up. Something like 42-38 in overtime would be ideal. (After all, who's ranking teams based on their defense?) Penn State stays in the top ten, we move up to say 6th or 7th.

That puts us in the top 5 in the BCS.

I'm not saying it's going to happen or not and I'm not making a case that the team deserves it or not. Just saying there is a scenario where we're BCS top 5 after this weekend.

Of course, this would cause the powers that be to "tweak" the BCS again to add the "proximity to an ocean" factor which would move USC, Alabama, Florida, and LSU up and punish OSU and OU. (This is a double punishment for OSU as you know we cannot beat any team whose state borders an ocean). The boys from Utah will scream and it will be changed to a "proximity to a large body of salt water" factor which will favor Utah and BYU but has the unexpected side-effect of ranking Idaho State in the BCS top-ten.

OR...

We could just blow out Penn State 42-0 and let come what may! :wink2: ... of course that would let down the Bengals of Pocatello.

I really can't argue with anyone's points thus far. I do agree that a close win will look a lot better even though it probably wont be good on my nerves. I read this somewhere and now I cannot remember where, but someone started an argument with us heading to the NCG and that we should. When asked why his reasoning was that we are a "new" team and a team tat was not seen playing USC when we got blown out. I agree with that a small amount, but still I don't think we beat USC if we are 3, even with the computer's help.

I'm going to be camping this weekend with the fam and some friends from our boys' school... I'll have the joy of watching the game via slingbox on my phone. Talk about nerves... try watching a big game on your phone... I'm going to be a flipp'n wreck.

Big win, little win... don't care. As long as we get the W.

Go Bucks.

What has college football come to these days? We are actually arguing that a close win is better than a blow out (which i kind of agree with). These are some messed up times. I wish the B11 didn't have such a terrible rep right now.

I would much rather just hand PSU their ass in a sling, win the B-10 and play in the Rose Bowl. After all, if the Bucks would have taken care of business out west we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. Having said that, nobody would hear any bitching or moaning from me if we beat state penn by a FG and move up to a position to possibly play for the N.C.

USC's Pete Carroll finds humor in BCS

Kirby Lee / US Presswire"The more we win the worse we get," USC Coach Pete Carroll said of his team's slide in the BCS standings

Carroll injects some levity after the Trojans drop from No. 5 to No. 7 in the aftermath of their third shutout victory in four weeks.
Coach Pete Carroll typically avoids commenting about the Bowl Championship Series standings, let alone inviting questions about them.
But even Carroll could not help injecting some gallows humor Sunday after the Trojans dropped from No. 5 to No. 7 in the aftermath of their third shutout victory in four weeks.

Sorry Pete, but that's what happens when Texas Tech spends Saturday night beating the #1 team in the nation and he spends it beating up on a winless Washington team. If Pete wants to go to the NC, he should spend less time complaining about the BCS and more time figuring out how to beat unranked opponents, which seem to be his downfall every season.

This doesn't help TOSU strength of schedule either, ie. losing to #7 by 32 points hurts.
Yes, USC getting jumped by TTU makes sense, based on an undefeated season and victory over previous #1 Texas.
However getting placed 10th in the computer rankings behind Oklahoma, Utah, Boise State and 2 loss Georgia is just a joke.

On Saturday, 1 Nov 2008 Texas Tech beat Texas on a last second pass completion. Therefore, Texas Tech deserves to be ranked ahead of Texas.

OK, now for some idle babble.....

I really believe that if Texas played Texas Tech 10 times at a neutral site they would win 8 or 9 of the times, i.e. Texas is really a better team.

In my opinion the three best teams this year are Texas, Florida, and USC (no particular order); not Alabama, Texas Tech, and Penn State.

Yeah, I know your arguement; If Texas, Florida, and USC are the best, then they should have beaten Texas Tech, Mississippi, and Oregon State. Yes you are correct; they should have beaten them, but they didn't.

Moral of the story: The best two teams don't necessarily go to the BCS Championship game. The two teams that lose the fewest games usually go.

After last year we were all wondering if it was just some sort of aberration. Now, mounting evidence suggests strongly that this is a trend. We have reached some sort of nexus in college football parity where on any given Saturday once second or third division teams can beat the big dogs. Expect more crazy twists to become the norm.
Expect the unexpected.

That, plus on or two of those unranked opponents bumping him off practically every year.
