2008-09 Men's Basketball Polls/Seeding Projections/Rankings Discussion

It seems weird that Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated and CBS takes either so much joy knocking Ohio State or feels like he's honoring the Buckeyes by ranking the team on his AP Top 25 ballot.

I recall a few weeks ago he said that he wouldn't rank Ohio State in his Top 25 unless the team was undefeated heading into the Michigan State game in early January (or something like that).

Seth Davis just like to talk to hear himself talk. If my job was just to follow college basketball, I think I could do it probably as good as him and if they paid me probably better. Ohio State at #25 and Notre Dame at #7 is ridiculous. We beat them on a neutral court and deserves something for that. Also, I just don't understand all the love for Miami. I mean we beat them on their home court. I guess I forgot we play in the Big 10.

But, Miami got hosed on a bad call ejection, and Notre Dame's best player was obviously slowed by the aftermath of a flu. :roll2:

I'm usually fairly mellow with the ref bashing or announcer bashing, but the Miami game was inexcusable. The amount of focus on the "bad call" ejection was over-the-top and shouldn't be acceptable. There was a good basketball team getting beaten on their home court, and all the announcer did was make excuses during the second half. How many times did they mention that the Miami lead GREW by 2 points between the ejection and halftime??? None. No credit given to the Buckeyes, other than minor praise for Turner. Nothing but amateur hack announcers.

And, I totally forgot about the 18 conference schedule. Ok, I still say the Bucks end up in the 11-7 or maybe 12-6 range. It's just so damn hard to win on the road consistently.

It will be interesting to see where Ohio State lands in this upcoming weeks poll considering that Butler beat X last night and we took care of Butler although it be by a slim margin. I know we have to get by WVU first but if we can beat them I think we can jump a couple spots in the polls.

The Big 10 should start getting some love even more with the thrashing that Illinois gave Missouri. I think you might be on target with a 12-6 record for the Buckeyes in the Big 10 because it is going to be difficult playing on the road once again. A number of quality teams in the Big 10 this season.

So, in the wake of the WVU game, maybe Seth isn't as stupid as you guys thought.
