2008-09 Men's Basketball Polls/Seeding Projections/Rankings Discussion

So they send us to Miami, and Miami to Dayton. I thought we needed to stay 5 or higher to keep the Dayton region.

Also I see the East is in Boston, South in Memphis, Midwest in Indy, but the West in Arizona????

Ummm I think theres a lot if cities there right.

I think we would have to win out and makes the Big 10 tournament championship game in order to get a #5 seed and play in Dayton.

While I respect your opinion LB, I respectfully disagree. I think if we win out, and make the BTTCG, we'd be top 10-15,and would easily get a 5 seed.

Wow, that would be a 9-1 finish, 26-6 record on the season, 14-4 Big Ten record, and 2nd place finish in the conference and conference tournament. If that's not a 2 or 3 seed, then something is seriously screwed up with the selection committee.

Kinda I should have put more emphasis on easily. I meant to say what Yertle said.

Now that you have said that in hindsight with a record and finish like that you are probably correct. No less than a #3 seed but winning out and making the championship game is a very tall order.

However, I think being a #4 or #5 seed would give us a better shot at playing closer to home than being a higher seed. Usually, only the #1 seeds get that type of luxury.

Agreed 100%. I'm thrilled to be on this 4 game win streak. This is such a talented, but mistake prone (youth) team. I don't think I've ever had the emotional swings watching a Buckeye b-ball season as I've experienced this year.

If we can end up 4-3 to close the season, and win one in the BTT, I'll be happy. That would put us at 22-9, 11-7 in the Big 10, with some nice quality wins. That should get us a 5 or 6 seed. Not too shabby for a team that has zero active players who were here just 15 months ago.

Just looking at the last couple of brackets, after the 3 seeds it looks like they didn't care where the teams played the first & second round, but only the 1s and 2s really got the closest locations possible. MSU and Pitt were 5 & 4 seeds last year when they were placed in Denver & so were ND and Washington St.; Vandy and Clemson were 4-5 and put in Tampa; UConn & Drake also were 4-5 and shipped to Tampa. So teams like MSU and Louisville this year are more likely to get placed in Dayton than OSU simply because the 1s and 2s get priority over the 4s and 5s. OSU is probably not going to get to play in Dayton, and everywhere else (for the first two rounds) is at least a six hour drive from Columbus. Greensboro is the second-closest for OSU, but I'm sure teams like Duke, Wake and UNC will get priority for that location. And I'm sure teams like Pitt and UConn will get a higher priority for the Philadelphia games than OSU. Miami is really a horrible place to have first & second round games if you expect fans to drive there - there aren't many schools within a decent driving distance that they can pick to play there - so you can almost expect the 4s and 5s of a couple of the brackets to be put there. I'd say if OSU is a 4 seed or 5 seed, Miami and Minneapolis are the most likely destinations for their first round game. None of the top teams (UConn, Duke, Wake, NC, Oklahoma, Louisville, Pitt, MSU) are anywhere near Miami when compared to the other available locations (Philly for UConn & Pitt; Greensboro for NC teams; KC for Oklahoma; Dayton for Louisville & MSU). It seems to me that Minneapolis is a more likely destination for OSU than Dayton given the clear preference given to 1s and 2s over 4s and 5s - there aren't any likely 1s and 2s located near Minneapolis, so just like with Miami they're probably just going to ship whoever's left after the good spots (Greensboro, Dayton, Philly, KC) are taken from the eastern/midwest teams.
