That thought scares me, but you have serious questions at Michigan, but if you go to tOSU you are suddenly a target for the defense, if he goes to Oregon...
Target because he's leading them on? He seems to be keeping them in the hunt more than winking at this point...

his taking his time is good for us, imo, because so long as he takes his time (and maybe even wait until LOI day) no right-thinking RR target QB recruit would chance having to win a starting spot over TP.

Which would you prefer?

Choice A: Miles, Mallett, most of the staff, possibly retaining AA
Choice B: RRod, brand new QB, staff & wrs (besides #13)

Personally I think choice A would do better in 08, but B might have some long-term potential. I love when you stop by these threads.
Choice B. '08 was going to be kind of a punt anyway. I'm not worried about the wide receivers even if AA leaves - Mathews, Hemingway, Savoy, Clemons, and Stonum - one of them will step up to be a go-to guy, I'm pretty confident there. The defense loses a lot of seniors and was going to be iffy whoever was coaching - Adams is gone, Englemon's gone, Chris Graham, Trent, Jamison. Oh, and we need to break in a new kicker again.

Next year's going to be rough, and having Mallett around wasn't going to help matters much given the supporting cast. Hopefully there will be people to step up, but I like the long-term potential here, which I think looks brighter than if we'd had the status-quo hire in Miles.

I agree with you there, much better chance to shake everything up with RRod... and there is much that needs shaking.

There will be unsurprising panic on the UM boards, but you are spot on about the speedbumps next year. Not to mention that team down south returns everyone and plays at home... and the bigger picture needs to be in perspective with this change.

How many NC's does scUM claim from those 9 years?
I know you're being sarcastic, but in reality Elliott's 9-1 record in 1964 was Michigan's only Big Ten title in an 18-season stretch from 1951-1968. They flat out sucked during that time.

The only problem I see is if they miss on Pryor and Mallett transfers that sets them back at least 2 years...they don't have 2 years. The spread is a great offense but conferences adjust to that offense.

The point is that Michigan is already behind the powercurv. They are losing defensive recruits...thats bad news for them. They are losing their 2 best safeties and linebackers. Terrance Taylor their best linemen might go pro early.

Losing three starting OL...their three best is gonna hurt especially learning a new offense.

Remember that Henton and Pryor can run the same offense at OSU...its not like Michigan has a patend on the spread. Thats why I laugh at all these Michigan fans that act like because RR they are gonna destroy the universe with his coaching...he went from JV coaching in the Big Least to Varsity in the B10.

INDECISION '08: Debbie Mallett nixes Web reports about son's transfer to UCLA
“No decision has been made,” Debbie Mallett said Thursday night of her son, the freshman quarterback — currently — at Michigan.

“Everybody thinks they know what Ryan’s doing. But Ryan has not made a decision yet. All these sources? They never came from anyone here.”

...

Reports have flown across Internet message boards and even onto a newspaper’s Web site Thursday, identifying where Mallett likely will land (UCLA, Arkansas, Texas) when he transfers.

According to Debbie Mallett, any of that could be true, but none of it is now.
“He could be at UCLA, he could be somewhere else, he could be at Michigan,” she said. “But when I talked to him (Wednesday) night, he hadn’t made any decisions.”
While she continues to field phone calls from every interested party — her daughter even called Thursday — she’s amazed at the interest.

“He’s not a cure for cancer,” she said of the thousands of fans across the country discussing her son. “We appreciate he has fans, but I don’t know how he handles this. He’s just 19 years old.”

Not exactly a strong denial, is it?

Because if Mallett leaves and Pryor picks OSU that leaves you with a first year starter with alot less talent than Mallett. They will have to run the offense until you recruit a mobile QB...2 YEARS...you cannot expect a true freshmen to be awesome in the spread...VY wasn't all world his first season. Are you getting the point now? 2-3 at minimum to get the new offense rolling.

Wonder how scUM fans are taking this news...

I have a scUM friend, who, to his credit, knows more about tOSU than some of my Buckeye friends. I usually try to keep him posted about the inside stuff that I know he doesn't get otherwise.

The texts I sent him tonight to update him, got responses of...

"Not worried."

and, when I tried to word it better, he said,

"Not worried."

I think I would be just a slight bit concerned at the overall negligence here
