I know it seemed a foregone conclusion that mich was going to keep all of their recruits, but at what point does this long coaching search take its toll? Carr retired Nov 20, which was nearly a month ago, and their search seems to be going nowhere. What must some of these kids be thinking? In a month and a half, I'm going to be signing to play for an unknown coach for the next 4 years. I'd imagine if the search goes on too much longer some of the kids will start to re-open their college search. Once they do that, who knows what happens. I know they all have strong relations with the assistant coaches, and knew Carr prob wasn't going to be around much longer, but I can't imagine them sitting on their hands, gearing up to play for an unknown coach.

I agree dav713, UM has alway run a fairl conventional offense/defense and the current recruits know where they'd fit in those schemes, but with some of the coaching names being bandied about, I'd think some of their recruits would be getting nervous, I know you're supposed to pick the school, but still.

Apparently he isn't very well liked by his teammates and he doesn't like them.

I don't think it took any great powers of insight to see this from just a few sideline shots this year.

I hope he stays. Nothing better than a seven foot statue to go after for our pass rushers the next 3 years.

A week or two ago, I was listening to the radio and there was a discussion going on about ethnicity and players. The radio hosts were talking about a running back that's supposedly going to scUM and he's white. Apparently, he's one of the top backs in the nation. If this is discussed elsewhere in the thread; then just point me to it. But I wanted to know who this kid is, where he's playing, etc.

From what I've heard, I would expect about a half-dozen transfers (esp OL). No one that would really hurt them, unless Mallett joins that group. Michigan also has a tendency to not invite unproductive 4th yr juniors back for another season.

All around, I expect they'll have as many scholarships as they can fill for this recruiting season. There's also the chance that current verbals head elsewhere (Christian Wilson, Boubacar Cissoko).

Man we really need Cissoko. Badly.

sure, but as more people leave, that is more room for more kids to come in for this current class. I hope they keep as many of those slow defensive players as possible. The quicker Rodrigo brings in his type of kids, the quicker the spread becomes effective. As the Wolverine's currently stand, and with the class the Bucks have coming in, I can see the Bucks winning 3-4 out of the next 4-5 games in this series. It's going to take a couple of years to get the ball rolling in Ann Arbor. They Are not going to light it up the first year with their current roster with or w/o Pryor next year. It appears the incoming recruits are happy with the recent coaching move, but in the locker room with the current players, that may be another story. One of the things I want before I pass is to have the all-time series evened up (I'm only 29). The Bucks are starting to make a dent under Tress. The next 3-4 years with this incoming class could be a big step in the right direction. I can dream big right.

Rodriguez fires Michigan assistant coaches

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

ANN ARBOR -- Incoming Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez has fired all nine current assistant coaches.
There is a possibility defensive line coach Steve Stripling may be rehired.

Rodriguez, who was on campus Wednesday and Thursday to meet with football operations personnel and observe bowl practices, sat down with the coaches one by one on Thursday and to give each the news.

"He told us all, and we respect him for that," said Erik Campbell, who played football for Michigan and has been receivers coach under Lloyd Carr. "It's part of the profession. It's good for us because now we have closure.

"We knew the possibility that he would not rehire us was there. You never know until you here the words, and today was the day."

The staff will remain intact under Carr through the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1. Carr announced his retirement Nov. 19 after 13 seasons as head coach.

...Cont'd
The free for all on UM recruits has now begun. Nearly everyone expected 3-4 assistants to be retained, and some were vital for certain verbals.

Wow, I'm suprised that he fired all of them. I understand it is his perogative, with this opening due to a retirement and not a firing (of Carr) I expected him to retain/"rehire" at least a few.

It will be interesting to see the recruiting fallout and response from the Michigan Men.

It will also be interesting to see how far reaching rr is in building a staff. I hope for the B10's sake he doesn't just bring up his WVU staff and looks to expand his staffs knowledge and experience (although a weak scUM isn't all bad for a tOSU fan )

The front page at GBW now shows a teaser to a premium story that suggests Jackson (Running Backs coach) has been re-hired.

Implies there is a possibility that some firings are procedural - yes you are out on the old terms, here is what we will offer you as part of the incoming regime.

This has also been covered on Detroit News

U-M coach Rodriguez rehires Jackson

A day after being fired, longtime assistant is rehired for a position on the offensive staff.

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

New Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez has plans to re-hire at least one member of the current staff -- longtime assistant Fred Jackson.
On Thursday, Rodriguez met individually with all nine assistants, who were fired. But as Rodriguez indicated Monday when he was introduced as Michigan's coach, there would be the potential to re-hire some.
Jackson, the running backs coach who has been on the Michigan staff since 1992, said Friday that Rodriguez told him he will be re-hired for a position on the offensive staff. Jackson, 57, has coached receivers and quarterbacks during his career, but it was unclear what position he will coach.
....
Jackson has been a strong recruiter at Michigan, and there had been considerable speculation incoming freshman standout tailback Sam McGuffie would only sign with the Wolverines if Jackson remained on staff.
Sources indicated Thursday that defensive line coach Steve Stripling also could be re-hired. Jackson said he was told two other assistants potentially could be re-hired.

Guess that helps put into perspective the approach Ricky took - akin to changing of the administration post election. Everbody hands in their resignation (here get's fired) and we decide who to keep and who to ditch.
Smart to keep Jackson around with McGuffie's retention hanging in the balance.
Similar logic would keep English on board - but 3+3 does not equal 5.
Unless Ron English is one of the three implied total re-hires he should put his resume in for UCLA immediately.
