No worries for scUM.

They are going to grab some guys from the science club and let Barwis have them for a year. They'll be ready to dominate in the trenches by '09.
Chess club. Just to make it a fair fight for the rest of the Big Ten.

It actually seems they mean they have no doubt that Newsome is not decommitting. Great scUM education and all, allowing for clarity of writing.
With the David Wilson commit to Virginia Tech, I can pretty much guarantee Newsome is not going there. Tech is now running very close to their self-imposed limit for the year and they have their irons in too many other fires to worry about Newsome. Most of the other schools that offered Newsome are probably no longer recruiting him as heavily as before for various reasons, so I very, very much like our chances of keeping Newsome.

So mighty UM wont lose Newsome.... because nobody else wants him?

Louisiana DE DeQuinta Jones verbals to UM. #23/36 rated DE.

On 7/8, Cal and Bama were the favorites, and he didn't really know much about Arkansas. In the south, verbals simply help isolate who to beat out. Step in the right direction for UM's razor-thin DE depth, but will it stick? This pontification is based on nothing other than the sudden emergence from outside the favorites to a verbal commitment.

Congrats on a good pickup.

Frorm S&M, summing up ESPN's scouting
Jones is a defensive line prospect who displays some versatility. He moves around the line in high school and with his size he could be a player that plays some defensive tackle also in college and we would not be surprised if he developed into more of an interior type player in college. He has a good get-off, but needs to be more consistent. Will flash the ability to fire off the ball low and be able to knock a blocker into the backfield. He uses his hands well to engage and separate from a blocker. Displays solid lateral mobility to shed and side-step blocks. Displays solid speed in pursuit, but will flash at times a good little closing burst. Has a good motor. Displays the ability to take on blocks and hold his ground versus the run, but needs to watch his pad level. He is a solid tackler. Displays adequate short-area change-of-direction skills. As a pass rusher he can be disruptive. Will use his hands and can bull rush. Displays the ability to work to half-a-man and get his hips flipped to work past. Does a good job of getting his hands up and batting down passes. Not a speed edge rusher and may be better utilized as a pass rusher by sliding down inside and better using his quickness as a defensive tackle in passing situations. Jones is a productive player. Has the ability to develop into a solid college defender that can at worst could be a good swing guy.

Wow! A defensive lineman! Eh, it's a step in the right direction. Looks like this is how their defensive recruiting the rest of the way is pretty much gonna go this year...wowing some lower rated prospects with the "m*ch*g*n name".

And yes, that is some sublime advertising.

He's expected to be a LaMarr Woodley type at DE, if we keep him.. Cuz there were rumours of a LSU offer on the horizon..

EDIT: On GBW, his dad said he's not even committed yet. lol

From the Free Press' article about Carson Palmer:
? By the way, when we checked dispatch.com Tuesday, it also had a countdown -- actually, guess it would be a count-up -- that said: "Days since Michigan's last victory over Ohio State in football: 1,704." It's a good thing U-M fans aren't as thin-skinned as the Buckeyes or they might take offense at that, right?
