It is amazing how their recruiting is going down the shitter. If you look at their top 10-15 recruits the majority of them are pipedreams. They have offered about 5-6 guys from Mississippi for some reason...They might get one of them but from what I have been told on the MSU scout site they better not get too ecited about their chances because Croom is starting to recruit well...I heard Boyd is a lock for MSU.

They better start recruiting DE's...IMO Simms ends up at MSU for Basketball.

So out of curiosity....who do you think are the 10-15 recruits? And do you mean top 10-15 players that we have interest in, or top 10-15 targets?

Not sure if Michigan recruiting is "going down the shitter", but it hasn't been all that impressive for [sarcasm]Mighty Michigan[/sarcasm] so far:

Michigan has seven current commits, of which only two are ranked in the top 10 in the country at their position (per Scout). Conversely, Ohio State has 14 current commits, of which nine are in the top 10 in the country at their position. Bump that up to top 20 in the country at their position, and Michigan has three of seven whereas Ohio State has 11 of 14.

The ugliness of the court proceedings and stories about his antics coming out into public view certainly cannot help. UM fans can deny all they want, but there is a stink around him right now that may be scaring coaches and recruits away. True, but keep in mind that at least one top-level player (Jackson) has committed to us vice Michigan because of Michigan's current staff. I know your comment wasn't directed at me, but I want to address your comments in roundabout response to HailToMichigan's earlier post. While some of us OSU fans may be a tad over zealous in our trashing of Michigan's current recruiting, there's no question that it is indeed suffering--to an extent--because of the coaching change.

Sort of. He certainly seems to have Trotwood-Madison locked up. But he's recruiting an entirely different caliber of player now that he has Michigan on his letterhead instead of West Virginia. You have to go back to 2002 to find a player he recruited to WVU out of Texas....he's already brought two to Michigan (Terrence Robinson in '08 and Beaver for '09.)

And much has been made of RR losing out on several players from Michigan, but again, he barely recruited there. Meanwhile MSU has been gobbling them up....but that's all they've got.

Very true, and thus far he hasn't been blowing people out of the water like many um fans prognosticated (again, not saying you). I'd say they're missing out on some that would have had um much higher, if not chosen um had they been recruited by the previous regime.

Again, true, but is that a good idea? When m*ch*g*n has top shelf talent, how are coaches going to look at that? I'm also curious about your thoughts as DickRod's BP public defender on whether or not all the negative publicity sourrounding him will have lasting impacts on his recruiting. Percieved or true, he's not coming off well at all, how do you expect coaches and parents to react to him?

Only people on here who would (maybe) know more Michigan recruiting then me would be probably wadc, MillaniBuckeye, and a few others.. There's no point in bragging on a freaking internet website, so I won't say anything, just that I know a whole lot more about recruiting then you think with comments like that last one.

Also, by going and looking at the highest ranked prospects on Scout and seeing we're not good with them, you suddenly know more about Michigan recruiting then us? Well if you believe that I'll let you continue on with that line of thinking and trashing of Michigan recruiting. Have fun with that :tongue2:

Some contrarian views - and some in line views.

Contrarian -

It is the Wads first year at the helm recruiting for an entirely different team, in the face of significant (and self-inflicted) distractions.

How does RR's first run compare with the tally of Jim Tressel, in his first full year 2002, when he took over the reins in Columbus? It is hard to find details on dates, but, I do recall that till recently, Tressel was lamented by some (BN-era) as slow to close the deal.

Which brings me to contrarian point two - is the slow start simply the way Rodriguez plays things? His history at WVU is probably the best guide, and certainly it seems from the '05, '06 and '07 classes (deemed most relevant as this was at the height of Rodriguez ascendancy in Morgantown) that he would start slow, then finish stronger in November through NLOID.

Of course, moving on to "in-line views" to support point 2 at TSUN he would have to be looking at a fairly flush board of heavy leans in AA. Aside from two sub-25 at position players all the remainder are "in play" Medium interest prospects. Top of the "Medium" interest list is none other than Marcus Hall. So last point: How many of the contested players are more likely to lean to WVU-North in the end.

Certainly not Hall.

Rueben Randle? Pulling him out of the south would be mighty tough.

Oku? Sounds like Free Shoes is the favorite for this native of Oklahoma - which State's eponymous schools, noticeably, has not offered him.

Corey Adams? The west, ND and OSU plus others versus first-year and distracted RR? Almost unfair.

Chris Watt? Lengthily discussed in his own thread here. Illinois and Ohio State often mentioned.

Not saying that TSUN and RR won't pull in some players, but, right now things are not as strong as the rah-rah crowd from AA would have had us believe, and the battle for the remaining talent looks very tough indeed.

Bad year for a HC to be giving depositions in my view.
