Players that were 'Awesome': Toney Clemons, Avery Horn, Kevin Grady, Brandon Minor, Darryl Stonum, Tim Jamison, John Thompson, Artis Chambers, Stevie Brown, Troy Woolfolk..

Players that looked good: Steven Threet(said he looked like a lock to start and said he was fairily impressed), Jonas Mouton, Greg Banks, Greg Matthews,Carson Butler, Nick Sheridan (said he looks like a solid backup but is really short), the OL ( said they all looked a better than he expected even Schilling who he hates)...

Players that were bad: David Cone (awful), Martell Webb ( cant catch a thing but is pretty fast), Lateryal Savoy, Morgan Trent ( I know this wont be popular here), Michael Williams, Obi Ezeh (said he looked lost a lot but didnt play that bad otherwise)....

Overall he sounded pretty impressed and excited, he said that he thought we would be a little better than people expected judging from what he saw but probably not all that much better.. He kept stressing how bad Cone and Webb were and couldnt stop talking about how 'awesome' Horn and Clemons were.. Again take it FWIW but that is what I got..
HAAA !!! No he just said he got
burnt a few times looking back and that he seemed to not really be into it...

Freep observations.

Analyzing the Michigan offense: Option struggles; RB Avery Horn most exciting | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

I hate trying to figure out the spring game. It's always hard to figure out whether the offense was good or the defense was bad. Or vice versa.

The bowl streak may very way rest on Feagin's shoulders. From what I've seen, neither of the two QBs (Cone is an afterthought) can keep defenses honest downfield, nor with their feet well enough (though Sheridan is better).
I still say the bowl streak is going to rest on the offensive line. RR's offense doesn't seem to involve much of the quarterback dropping back and sitting in the pocket looking for an open receiver, so pass protection is less of an issue, but can they run-block?

An already suspect OL facing defenses stacked to stop the run because they have no fear of the pass.

A decent but nowhere near great defense constantly on the field because of the poor offense.

Lucky your best player is your punter imo.

This is certainly true as well, probably moreso really. To clarify, even with the QB play as it appears, i still think Feagin may be a part-time player... but think he needs to come up big to help sustain the bowl streak.

As for blocking, McGuffie is arriving with a ton of hype and have read that he is expected to start by some on staff, rumored to be Jackson. The Matrix better bend the pass rush with his mind, otherwise Threet has to be having nightmares of Sam's matador blocking.

McGuffie played most of his senior year with a nagging shoulder separation which caused him to try and favor the shoulder when blocking. As you might imagine it didn't result in many highlight-reel pancakes. He'll probably have to be taught how to do it right again, but it's not a real big deal IMO.

From post above...

"*TEs Butler and Webb both looked great but dropped every pass that came their way during the scrimmage it seemed. Not "couldn't catch," dropped."

Was it a beauty contest?

:slappy:Well, I guess we know the kind of expectations they have from the TE group then.

Run block...run block...run block...

Was he injured in San Antonio?

Really, it's ok to just admit a flaw. Unless this is back to the 'getting a response' angle you admitted to in the past.
As you might imagine it didn't result in many highlight-reel pancakes.
Highlight-reel pancakes? :slappy: How about just solid blocking?

Learn again as though he was proficient in doing so before his injury? Is this based on the same thing as your sheridan hopes?

Perhaps McGuff will not be asked to do much blocking rendering that weakness less problematic, but I'm not sure how you can write this off as merely the product of injury.

Mostly hope, and some reflex reaction against the automatic notion that Sheridan can't win the job on his own merit. RR has said some positive things about Sheridan and Threet, how they've done very well picking up the offense. Looking back on Sheridan, we know much less about him than the other QB's in the mix, and that alone shouldn't necessarily be a reason to be embarrassed to see him line up under center.
Now that you have more than just hope and quotes to evaluate, do you still feel optimistic that Sheridan can be a good starter?

From what I've seen and read, Sheridan struggles to pass short, long and pitch the ball. Has decent running ability, not in Feagin or Brown's class imo... and certainly nothing like what RR had in Morgantown.

I feel optimistic that he won't be the starter. To be realistic, the only reason he has a shot in the starting QB race is because he is more athletic/ has more quick feet then Threet. His arm and accuracy don't compare. The WRs want Threet to start (no they haven't come out and said it, but it's a given) because he would be able to get the ball to them more then Sheridan. I believe Threet will be the starter come opening day, but Feagin will also be worked in once he could learn the playbook efficiently. Will he overtake Threet? I seriously doubt it, but I believe he will play alot of snaps this year for us. Sheridan, not so much.

When his blocking skills were first noted as poor (OK, well some even said awful) it was nagging ankle injury that McGuffie was nursing. (Shoulder injury was more an explanation suited for the AA game.

When do you expect McGuffie to start issuing pancake blocks? Option 1 - Sometime in our lifetime .. Option 2 - Never ... :tongue2:

Nah, he'll just leap right over those fundamentals ... :wink2:
