Beyond the 'role player to starter' rebuttal, there is a pretty dramatic offensive overhaul on the way... so I'm not sure how well the 06 performances will translate. If the positive practice rumblings about KG are even half accurate, he won't look much like the Grady we've all witnessed.
Greg Matthews, Junior Hemingway
Seriously? Hemingway's 3 catches (33 yds) vs EMU & 1 catch (4 yd) vs UF are enough to determine his upcoming impact?

Mathews is a steady possession WR who lurked in the shadows of two star WRs. How he'll do as a #1 is a completely different ballgame.

As skeptical as I am, there's always the "well, this is UM" argument.

As inexperienced as the OL are as a whole, they should be better (more talented) than some of their opposition. Also, some of the blocking schemes won't change much, particularly the inside zone series. That will help some.

I guess if you want to be optimistic about the 9 OL on scholarship, you have to figure that every one of them will get significant reps in the spring against what most of us would consider a "decent" to "good" DL. Injury bug could KILL this team though.

Also, I'm not ready to label Hemingway or Matthews as the next anybody. Decent talent, questionable speed and unproven. Both have the size to be quality blockers.

I wouldn't be suprised to see FR Darryl Stonum on the outside like MM was in '05. WOTS is he's the fastest WR on the team so far.

Agreed with the above... if I had to roll the dice on any as standouts in the upcoming season, it might be Stonum. His ability to operate & create in space will be a large asset while the training wheels are still on the passing offense.

If you can watch any of the film on Stonum, there's a Buckeye he reminds a lot of UM fans of in terms of running style... reminds a lot of us of Ted Ginn in that he doesn't appear to lose a lot of speed while cutting. Not quite as quick as TG, but similar.

Getting into spring practices should help Darryl. He may be able contribute in the same capacity (deep threat) that MM did as the '05 season progressed.

With the same sort of logic as J-Dub used, the RBs haven't really proven themselves either. I know that Grady is "new and improved" smaller version, but version 1.0 was pretty bad. From what I saw last year of Minor, he was a non-factor. I like Carlos a lot and would choose him over either of the other two, but he seems to be caught in the numbers game there at RB. He's got a real opportunity to prove himself here this spring.

Question for the scUM fans: Who do you guys see stepping up at QB, RB, and WR this year under RR?

I really think Steven Threet will be the starting QB. Now, he's not a fit for the prototypical RR, but he's not chopped liver. IIRC, both major recruiting networks had him as the #10-15 QB in the 2007 class. That won't make up for inexperience and the fact that he's been through a lot in a small amount of time. This is he's 3rd system (GT, old-UM, new-UM) in 13 months.

RR will have to tool the offense to Threet's abilities. He does have a good enough arm to make all the necessary throws. I expect to see lots of safe patterns (screens, hitches, swing passes, outs) to get his confidence up.

The best thing RR can do is have an effective running game. Putting the ball in a RS FR hands and saying, "now go win us a ballgame" wouldn't be recommended.

I do expect to see a read option package (8-12 plays a game) with someone else at QB... possibilities included Hemingway, Feagin, Brown or Minor.

QB: Threet, with Feagin getting some time.
RB: Brown, with Minor and McGuffie getting lots of time. I don't expect shit from Grady. Brown and McGuffie are your prototypical spread RBs.
WR: I think our top 4 WR are all candidates for a breakout. Hemingway, Clemons and Mathews are your prototypical Michigan wideouts. Great size, so-so wheels, good jumping ability. With their size, they should be decent blockers. Stonum will likely see some PT in the slot along with Terrence Robinson.

The University of Michigan agreed to improve wheelchair access to Michigan Stadium, which is undergoing renovations, as part of a deal with a paralyzed veterans' group that had sued the school.

My $.02

Minor has by far the most upside of the scUM RBs.
