I don't think it's a problem, relying on out of state recruiting. I think that's an advantage. If you can consistently recruit out of state, and U-M's got 24 states plus Quebec represented on the roster (from last year), it shields you from the ups and downs within your own state. Relying too much on instate recruiting means you don't have a backup plan when the talent dries up for a year or you lose the recruiting battles to your instate rival(s). There are always gonna be those guys who are fans of one school that won't go to the other no matter what.brutus2002;1101334; said:ChisAto the following comment are not directed towards you.
Most Michigan fans were mocking the Dantonio hire. Newsflash!! Hes gonna be a thorn in your asses. He should have beaten Michigan this year. When he filters out the John L. Smith troublemakers he is gonna have a hell of a squad. Zook, Tress, and Dantonio are gonna be serious thorns in the ass for RR.
The biggest problem with a team like Michigan is that they rely on OOS recruiting too much. Alot of coaches in Michigan cannot stand Michigan because they dis the players in their own state. Dantonio is gonna get more than his share in Michigan. Dantonio(the rumor anyways) is getting to know every coach in the state personally. This is gonna go a long way down the road.
If the top ten list doesn't include Rodriguez, it sure as hell doesn't include Dantonio either. We'll see. John L. Smith's first year went a lot like Dantonio's. Finished 8-5 with a bowl loss, and lost to Michigan but played a tough, close game. Smith ended up never beating Michigan though.BuckTwenty;1101432; said:Tressel's first year wasn't very good either, other than beating UM. Actually, his first year wasn't even a rebuilding year... it was more of a "let's see what we have here" year. Dantonio had it last year as his first year as MSU's head coach, and DickRod will take his lumps this coming season too. It's just what is expected of a coach in his first year with a program. This will be MSU's year to show the Big Ten what they've got, now that everybody has had a year in the system.
I just wouldn't open my mouth too wide about MSU if I was a skunkweasel fan, because you guys are just as vulnerable as they are this year, even though both teams have quite a bit of potential to do good things.
Also, fwiw, DickRod as a top ten coach in college football is laughable. His teams choked when the games mattered. How WVU ended the regular season this year is a good example.

Obviously, no. I think Dantonio would make a lot of top 50 lists, but absolutely no top 10 lists. At least RR's been able to smell a national championship game from where he was standing, I'll give him that much credit.HailToMichigan;1101447; said:If the top ten list doesn't include Rodriguez, it sure as hell doesn't include Dantonio either. Also, I'd be remiss if I forgot to include the standard response to that last paragraph, by the way, which is that WVU wouldn't have been playing in games that matter without RR. Cookie-cutter criticism, cookie-cutter response. My thinking is that even in this rebuilding year, Michigan has more talent up and down the roster than West Virginia had last year. Sure, they had White, Slaton, etc. while we have Steven Threet, but I think if you matched up the entire two-deeps, WVU probably won't stack up so well. Much tougher competition, too, which is why I can't wait to see how the season plays out.

We have one of the top 10 coaches in CFB now, and for you to say all these coaches are going to be a thorn in our side, but our coach not a thorn in yours or the rest of the Big Ten is ridiculous. BTW, the number 1 player in the state is committed to us.

goblue15;1101642; said:Sparty is always due, just like PSU is always due. Maybe they beat us this year, maybe not. All im saying is with a hurt Mike Hart and a badly hurt Chad Henne Sparty still couldnt beat us. They had everything working in their favor we were on the road and all of our stars were hurt and what did they do? They folded up like a paper bag! Same goes for PSU!
DickRod is building a wall around Quebec.BB73;1101631; said:Personally, I can live with Tressel conceding to TSUN all players from Quebec.
