2007 tOSU Spring Practice (official thread)

^^^ Interesting point if Boeckman starts this year, does it mean it automatically pencil him in for 2 years? I am sure the coaches are playing out every scenario possible and if Henton gives us the best change to win this year or next, he will get it.

I have not seen Henton, but all reports sound positive, but him having fewer int's might be more from the fact that he has had less reps, runs too much with the ball, etc, etc.

I am looking forward to hearing reports from the spring game.

Just wondered, how did the kicking game go, and did you kick it off under the 06 or 07 rules? Who is the guy to replace Ginn as returner?

High remarks concerning the kicking game. Do not know if they are using the new rules or not, but I would assume so.

As far as kick returner.....that's a good question. I'd assume Ray Small would be the "replacement." He's taking his place as the flanker on offense.

...I honestly have a feeling Boeckman will be the starter which will kind of suck in a way. Reason I say that is because Henton probably isn't ready for the 07' season, but you know once tressel has his starter this year (Boeckman) that he'll also start in 08' regardless if Henton is better in 08'. I truely think that Boeckman is better now, but in 08' Henton will be the best we have and he'll get a raw deal in 08.

Coach Tressel (and staff) obviously felt that Justin Zwick was the best option at QB at the start of the '04 Season, but Troy got opportunities, took advantage and 'the rest is history' as they say.

Yes, I think Todd gets first crack, but I believe both of the other QBs will get opportunities, and if Henton or Robbie is the best player at QB in '08 then I have no doubt that best player will play, no matter who was the starter '07...especially if by "better" you mean taking care of the ball better / fewest turnovers.

I think we may be underestimating how good our d-line will be.

I'm expecting at least 20 sacks from our ends( I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson and Gholston alone reached that number). I don't think there is a team in the big 10 that can match our defensive end rotation. Our Defensive tackles definitely have some promise. I really think that by the end of the year, this unit could be top 5 in the country. I really don't see anyone rushing against us.

Gholston himself should be able to reel in 8-10 sacks this season. I don't know if I'm being unrealistic but I'm really expecting a lot from him this season on the D-Line.

Yes I did see that. IMO, since we (the Buckeyes) reload then IMO our backups should be able to perform as well as or close to the level played by the first string. And I do realize that this is partially wishful thinking but isnt' that the way most Buckeye fans feel?

Uh, common sense dictates that an offense minus four starters (including two OL starters) will never be at the same level as it would be with those starters, or else those starting wouldn't be starters in the first place.

The OL takes the longest to gel, morseso than any other area on either offense or defense, so considering they didn't have a chance to work together (missing two starters and two backups) in a "game situation", I'm not all that conerned about our offense regardless of what some reports may be saying.

Outstanding kicking game once again is sweet. Kickoffs from the 30 this season? I hadn't heard that yet. I wonder if Teddy knew that before declaring for the draft, sheesh. Whomever is back there should get plenty of opportunities, well at least once a game!

"The QB's avoided Malcolm Jenkins like they owed him 3 months rent." Thats classic and subsequently my new sig. We have to have the best back 7 in the country this season. From the 12 or so guys we can plug in I cant see anyone better.

The offense will be fine. It is really going to look like the 2002 season again. More patient and secure offense with a smothering defense and great kicking game. I'll definitely take it if it ends up that way.

yeah I think we're just fine on offense. When you have your offensive like returning 3 of 5 starters and you return a bruiser like Beane, plus an improved MoW it can spell a very good run game this year. Only thing the QB's have to do is hit a couple throws and not throw INT's to keep defenses honest.

Uh, der, duh

Mili, I get what your saying and yes common sense would dictate that but look no further than last years defense to disprove your theory. They lost how many starters from 05? Including AJ Hawk.. and all the sudden the "non-starters" stepped up.. a year makes a very big diffrence, especially with 18,19 year olds becoming 20,21 year olds.. check out #33 in 05 scUM & 06 scUM.

I believe he was refering to the Offense's performance in the most recent scrimage vs. our Defense and how the injured players (Beanie, Barton, Rehring, Skinner, Mitchum, and others) on O had a big impact on the outcome.
