We should be getting pretty close to catching up to Notre Dame and Oklahoma's 95 total weeks, most all-time, as #1 in the AP poll...

Ohio State won't be able to catch them this year. There's only the final poll, after the January 7th title game, remaining.

Most appearances as AP #1, all-time (poll started in 1936)
95 - Notre Dame
95 - Oklahoma
93 - Ohio State (as of 12/2 poll)
86 - USC
70 - Nebraska
68 - Miami (FL)
59 - Florida State
42 - Texas
34 - Michigan
31 - Alabama

I'll settle for being only one behind ND and OU on January 8th...
I think its a given that, if we win the NC game, we will at least equal the total because we will definitely be #1 in 2008 given the number of players that return next year. I'll be happy if we are the first to reach 100.

By the way, how long has it been since the # for NoD changed?

They added 1 week to the total in 1993, the poll of Nov. 16th (they'd just defeated FSU, but lost to BC the next week).

Before that, they had 6 weeks as AP #1 in 1990 (finished 6th), and 12 weeks in 1989 (finished #2, matching the preseason ranking that year). They had 7 weeks at #1 in 1988, the year of their last NC.

They were preseason #2 in both 1994 and 2006, but didn't get any higher.

Regarding Oklahoma:

In 2004, they has 15 straight weeks at #2 (that has to be a record), and finished #3. In 2003, they had 15 weeks at #1 (and finished #3). They has 2 weeks at #1 in 2002 (finished 5th behind tOSU). They had 7 weeks at #1 in 2000, and finished on top. Before that, they had 14 weeks at #1 in 1987 (finished #3). They had 4 weeks on top in '86 (finished #3), and 3 weeks on top in '85, including the NC.

[sarcasm]I'd put Michigan ahead of us, for beating Florida, who beat Kentucky, who beat Arkansas, who beat LSU, who beat us.[/sarcasm]

Seriously, if we don't get credit for losing to #1 by landing at #2, then I make the same amount of sense as the polls. At that point, who cares.

Screw the 3 voters who voted for Georgia and the one who voted for USC as national champs.
Yep... also, if any team should be howling about that poll, it's Kansas. 12-1 and a BCS win yet they end up at #7. Bullshit. I'd have them #3 behind LSU and UGA.
