OB, you can have QEII I'll just take Keira... but either way it's still a stretch.

It is no longer a separate, specific component in BCS calculations because it was recognized as being redundant, but it is still inherently used in any computer poll, and to a degree it is a method used by human voters.

So, while strength of schedule has been diminished as a factor, it is still present.

I believe a number of one-loss teams are going to be ahead of us, even if we do run the table.

True, SOS is still a component in the computer polls, but only part of the formula. And the computer polls are only 1/3 of the rankings. The human polls are largely determined by won/losses, and the "what have you done for me lately" syndrome. So were an undefeated OSU a solid 3 in the two human polls, I highly doubt the computer polls SOS component would be sufficiently detrimental to push a "number" of one loss teams above us.

And we have been through the worst third of our SOS, and we aren't horrible. Once we play PSU, Wisky, Purdue, and UM, our SOS will be respectable. The only way I see us behind a one loss team is if someone like LSU, USC, or OU lose in the next two weeks, don't fall below us in the polls, and then win out. No one loss team is going to pass us up if we win out.

Even though I think it is way too early to be having this conversation, I am inclined to agree here, if there are two undefeated teams they will play for the bcs title. Although, if there are three and the other two are USC and LSU/Florida, we're going to get left out. But that's really not important at the moment, as we're not even half way through our schedule and have yet to play a ranked team, so the Bucks need to win and hope the rest plays out. If it doesn't, and the worst case scenario happens, I wouldn't mind being able to go to the Rose Bowl and see the Bucks, as long as the BCS committee doesn't decide to be true douchebags and toss us up against Florida.

No way we get the invite to the BCS championship game this year after the way we are perceived following last year.
Let it go. It ain't gonna happen. :(

Yes, because you get "invited" to the BCS championship like it's some kind of high society party, and perception means everything, and losing the previous year just makes you a pariah. I mean, it's not as if they have some kind of mathematical system or something.

Let's say, for argument, that OSU wins out. LSU beats Florida in Red Stick, and Florida gets payback at the Georgia Dome. Cal gets over the hump and beats USC, then does something silly and has a letdown against the Ducks. Oklahoma thumps Texas at the State Fair, and runs out the table, including the Big 12 title. WVU chokes it away against USF, or maybe waits for the annual shootout with L-ville. Either way, we're sitting around the first week of December and there's two BCS conference teams with a "0" in the L column: Ohio State and Oklahoma. Are you seriously arguing that the voters in the COACHES POLL are going to conspire to keep OSU out?

Don't sleep on the computers. They have much greater sway than the human polls because the human votes are dilluted. The computer polls work like a state that awards all its electoral votes to the winner. The human polls work like a state that proportions its electoral votes according to how many votes each candidate gets.

After hearing the last few days (out here in the PNW) how the Big 10 is worst conference known to man this year, I'm hoping that tOSU doesn't get screwed because of how other teams in the conference perform. If the Bucks get the job done; then there should be little-to-no recourse due to the failure of the other teams.

Looks like the computers are already showing OSU some love.

Sagarin has OSU at #4 (behind Southern Cal, LSU, Oklahoma).
Colley has OSU at #5 (behind LSU, Florida, Missouri[??!], Oregon).
Billingsley has OSU at #2 (behind LSU).
Massey has OSU at #4 (behind LSU, Florida, and Southern Cal).

1. USC (43) 3-0 1,601
2. LSU (22) 4-0 1,580
3. Oklahoma 4-0 1,456
4. Florida 4-0 1,417
5. West Virginia 4-0 1,388
6. California 4-0 1,263
7. Texas 4-0 1,196
8. Ohio State 4-0 1,193
9. Wisconsin 4-0 1,030
10. Rutgers 3-0 1,008

Looking at this top ten, we will have to move up at least three spots due to teams ahead of us playing each other.
USC vx Cal
LSU vs FL
OK vs TX

Also, I son't think there is any way that WVU goes undefeated in the big East. At least one of UC, Rutgers, USF will get them.

So by the time we play PSU, we very likely could/should be 4th as long as we keep winning and improving. THEN the acid test starts with 3 brutal games in 4 weeks. I still don't think we'll be able to pull those off undefeated.

Something else I noticed today...

On CollegeFootballNews.com, they now project 2 Big Ten schools getting BCS bids (Ohio State as Big Ten champ and Wisconsin as an at-large).....I think the vacancy was created by Louisville getting beaten. They have Ohio State playing Cal in the Rose Bowl and Wisconsin playing Florida (the other conference getting 2 bids is again the SEC) in the non-championship Sugar Bowl....

interesting to say the least, especially if it holds in a "down year"

Scout.com: 2007 Bowl Projections ... Sept. 23

Actually, they had 2 Big Ten teams in BCS bowls last week, tOSU (Sugar, not the BCS Championship) and PSU (Rose). PSU's loss just moved up tOSU and Wiscy.

I know I am biased but from what I've seen of college football this year, OSU is third.. My only argument is the debacle that was the national championship game last year.. I would love to play Florida again just to see Homan break Tebow's face... I think the Defense is much faster or plays faster than last year and Beanie when healthy is capable of the century mark against anyone which opens it for Robo... Just my two pennies...

It will take care of itself in the end. I still say we drop one game we shouldn't this year. Wiscy or Penn State. UF and USC will play for the whole enchilada.

I'm going to be fucking pissed if we lose to Wisky at home yet again. I don't think Tressel will let that happen. If we lose, it'll be at PSU.

FYI, Herbie has now moved Cal into the top 5. Someone let him know Tennessee isn't that good.

Waddaya say you have your Oregon Ducks send him that memo this weekend...

Don't have much to say about the polls this early in the year. Still lots of football to play. There will be more upsets, more surprise players making an impact, more injuries (unfortunately), more disappointing performances and whatever other unforeseen things that happen every year. But I did want to subscribe to this thread...

The Buckeyes just need to keep winning and the polls will sort themselves out. It's hard to be 100% sold on just about any team out there this early...
