2007 NFL Draft (Projections/Mock Drafts/Evaluations/Draft)

And a 2 or 3 next year. Trading into the top 5 is a premium, so they have to pay a premium.

I agree that you have to pay a premium to get into the top 5, but I don't think Atlanta would be willing to give up the #8 pick overall this year, their second round pick this year, their second or third round pick next year, and Jenkins in exchange for the #3 pick this year. I just don't see them doing it.

how so? Most of the first round picks were pretty typical...

My assertion was based solely on Quinn over Russell. After that all I looked at was who they had the Browns taking. Of course any mock draft that has the Browns taking someone besides Quinn can't totally suck. :p

Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell remains the favorite to be the first overall pick, but don't think for a second that the Raiders aren't still considering Quinn. While he may lack Russell's upside, the heady and more accurate Quinn is considered a safer pick. For Quinn, a 46-game starter for the most high profile team in all of collegiate sports, mental toughness and charisma are considered two of his greatest strengths. Certainly, personality won't overcome physical limitations, but for players ranked as closely as Russell and Quinn are by many teams, vocal leadership is one of Quinn's advantages. For Oakland and Cleveland, specifically, Quinn could provide the face to the franchise both teams are desperately searching for. 2.

David Harris, ILB, Michigan: The more scouts watch film of Harris the more they realize he was the primary reason for Michigan's dominant run defense in 2006. Under Harris' leadership, the Wolverines led the nation in rush defense, allowing just 43.38 yards per game, the lowest season total by a Division 1-A team since the 1993 University of Arizona defense gave up 30.1 yards per game. Despite two potential top 10 picks in Leon Hall and Alan Branch, it was Harris who shared the Bo Schembechler Most Valuable Player Award honors with tailback Mike Hart. Considered the most physical run-stuffing linebacker in the draft, Harris' stock is skyrocketing. 3.

Michael Bush, RB, Louisville: A letter by highly respected surgeon Dr. James Andrews describing Bush as 99 percent recovered from his second leg surgery is easing teams' concerns. Bush was lost for the 2006 season after only playing one half of football in 2006. In that half (against Kentucky), Bush ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns. These numbers were hardly a surprise considering Bush, who started only eight games in 2005, was voted First Team all-conference with 1,143 yards and a school record 23 scores. If healthy, Bush is the most dynamic of a stronger-than-advertised crop of big backs.

Obviously, it depends who's there. If it's CJ, it's possible.

I don't care who the Browns take...whether it be Russell, Peterson, Quinn, Thomas or Johnson, it will turn out badly. That's just the way it is.

They remind me of Detroit or Arizona, doomed to mediocrity. It's partly the fault of the fans. We demand improvement NOW and consequently do not give anyone including the coaches a fighting chance. The Browns change direction way too often and have no cohesiveness,

What have we had now, 4 first round QB's, coaches being under the gun with NO eye toward the future.

NFL teams juggle drafting and character

DAVE GOLDBERG

Associated Press

The Cincinnati Bengals could use a cornerback, although after being subject to nationwide ridicule for having nine players arrested last season they almost surely will pass on UNLV's Eric Wright. For public relations reasons, if nothing else. That doesn't necessarily apply to the other 31 NFL teams.
So Wright and Miami safety Brandon Meriweather, both of whom have had trouble in their backgrounds, could be first-round picks in Saturday's NFL draft - even though commissioner Roger Goodell's suspensions of Adam "Pacman" Jones for a year and Chris Henry for eight games have highlighted how strongly the new boss feels about off-field transgressions.

Is that even possible because of his signing with the Cubbies? Am I missing something.

they can take him, but they only have his draft rights for 2 years i believe. so, if they think he'll wash out of baseball before then, it's a justifiable pick. however, it's doubtful his future will be known by then.
