2007 NFL Draft (Projections/Mock Drafts/Evaluations/Draft)

So I was reading through the Sporting News' annual draft preview mag, and they compare all of the top prospects to current NFL players. Anybody wanna take a guess who they compared Quinn to?

...Joey Harrington. :slappy:
Sorry, I just found that humorous.

2007 Mock Draft Update

This was just updated today on the NFL Draft Countdown site, although it's a QB, I like this better for the Browns better than BQ. Still hoping they are smart enough to take either Joe Thomas or AP. I don't want to get a new project QB in the fold, but Jamarcus is a freak. His size and strength don't come around often. I do have to say though, Calvin is growing on me. I see the Browns as having way more needs that a WR, but he really looks like something special, and the more playmakers on this team, the better. Anyway, here's the linkage:

Agree. I'm glad I am not the only one who wouldn't mind seeing him in a browns uni. I know they have plenty of needs but this dude is special.

Can anyone explain to me why it is a big deal if a OT runs a 40 in 4.8 or 5.2...

That is the big reason why Staley has rose up the boards so fast is it not?

well that is one part of it, there were only 2 OL that had less then a 5 sec 40 time.

with OL its not really the 40 time as much as it the 10 yard time. That shows how much explosiveness (if thats a word) and quickness a lineman has. And his was the best in this years draft.

I have read where alot of scouts like him but said he needs to be more polished as he has only been playing OT for like 2 or 3 years. He went to Central Michigan as a 225 TE and is now a 305 OT.

Draft Daddy
Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. impresses scouts at workout, despite not being 100% healthy.

DD.comment: Ginn's impact as a speedy kick returner was never in doubt, the question here is would he make a better cornerback than wide receiver? At one point Ginn was the top high school cornerback in the nation and it's rumored he might personally like that position more. Does the question itself hurt his draft stock due to a lack of a set position?

Casual football fans remember Devin Hester's impact on the Bears but tend to forget he was not a first round pick. Ginn likely will go in the first frame. But outside of special teams, his immediate impact is yet to be determined.
6 burning draft questions
How important is the scouting combine? Is it better to have a high pick in the early rounds or multiple picks in later rounds? Is there really such a thing as a safe pick?
...
10 Questions (Quinn, Russell, etc)
1. Is Brady Quinn being overhyped?
I say Quinn isn't overhyped. But I do feel he's been overanalyzed. It's not the first time that a quarterback (Quinn) who was expected to come out as a junior and decided to return for his senior year, got put under the microscope twice and had to answer many critics, while an underclassman (JaMarcus Russell) with a lot less to go on, got the hype. I can recall when speculations had Peyton Manning leaving Tennessee after his junior year and worthy of a top selection. He stayed in school, gained a lot more experience, worked on his skills and actually got better. Then a year later, a fast rising junior named Ryan Leaf split the votes as to which athlete was the best QB.

Draft flooded with talented college tandems
This year's draft boasts several talented college tandems, including the high-profile WR duets from Ohio State, LSU and USC, writes Len Pasquarelli.

Were the flood-threatened Noah to be reincarnated as an NFL talent scout, he would have little trouble filling his ark, two-by-two, of course, on draft day this year.

Risers & Sliders
? Ted Ginn Jr. finally ran for scouts on Wednesday and the results were a little disappointing. Still suffering from a foot injury that occurred during the national championship game, Ginn was not in proper cardiovascular condition. His 40 times ranged between 4.38 to 4.42 seconds, slower than most expected. The injury made it almost impossible for him to run routes during the pass-catching segment of the workout. Several scouts wondered why the workout even took place given Ginn's physical condition. The result was a big hit to his draft stock.
? Ohio State's other junior receiver in the draft, Anthony Gonzalez, is watching his fortunes move in the opposite direction. With more teams focusing on prospects that are quality people as well as good football players, Gonzalez has moved up draft boards. Considered a second-round pick prior to the combine, there is a belief Gonzalez could sneak into the late part of Round 1 and end up with the San Diego Chargers.
...
? Ohio State's Antonio Pittman has improved his draft stock and is likely to be the third running back drafted, somewhere in the opening selections of Round 2.
...
Is Adrian Peterson damaged goods?
...The rest of the story to be written will now depend on whether Peterson can avoid the injuries that cut short his high school and college careers. Be it a twisted ankle his sophomore year at Oklahoma or the collarbone injury this past season, the biggest concern about Peterson is whether he'll hold up.

If we'd go in another direction than AD in round one, I'd love to grab Pitt in round 2.

I have been thinking that too, but I'm not sure if this line is good enough for him to be successful. Pittman is a good back, but I am not sure he can make his own holes or run through many tackles like Peterson can. He is definitely a burner that can break off a big one or take it to the house if he gets loose, and can definitely make people miss, but my concern would be him getting through the line.

I would be all for them taking CJ and trying to get Tampa or another team to give up picks to get him. If they can't move him they only end up with the best player in the draft.

Understandable concern. But that's hopefully where Lewis will help out. Pitt could be brought along slowly as a change of pace back then hopefully we upgrade the line further in FA next year, or who knows, actually grab some good linemen in the draft this year. We'll see. I'm still hoping we draft Peterson, and if not trade down and add some additional picks to help the lines. I do not want Phil drafting a QB this year. I think it all hinges on what Oakland does. If they pass on Russell, I'd bet dollars to dogbones that we pick Russell. I hope not, because I just don't think he's a good fit for Cleveland.

Anyone who rates Lorenzo Booker a better back than Pitt is either a bad rater of film, or a sucker for potential big play capability.....as a HUGE FSU fan, I can honestly say Booker isn't as good as Pitt......Booker is easily tackled and his speed is good but not top end. Lorenzo does have "shakes" but those same "shakes" never allow him to hit the hole in a quick enough manner....I do believe Lorenzo's potential was killed by Jeff Bowden, but at the same time, I just don't see Lorenzo making a big impact in the NFL....I do think Pitt can make an impact next year, although I believe he'll need 2-3 years in the league to get accustomed to the quickness and physicality....I think Adrien Peterson would be a great pick by the Browns and I also believe he'll be the best back in the league within 3-4 years...I will also quit the Browns if they draft Quinn
