2007 NFL Draft (Projections/Mock Drafts/Evaluations/Draft)

This kid could prove to be one of the biggest impact players of the draft. To be this big, this good at 19 years old?? Just imagine what he will be able to do when he hits his prime? Definitely a better selection than Branch.

Louisville's Pro Day - Okoye continues to impress

Amobi Okoye continued his impressive off-season with an exceptional performance at Louisville's Pro Day. Okoye, at 305 pounds, ran a 4.85 40 yard dash. This was a nice improvement over his disappointing 5.07 40 time at the combine due in part to a sore hamstring. He could be a top ten pick in April's draft and has passed Alan Branch on many draft boards as the top defensive tackle in the draft.

Lots of word that Washington will take him at #6 they sent their whole staff to the Pro Day to work him out and interview him... If not, I don't see him lasting past Atlanta at 8, especially with the Petrino connection...

We shall see, but I would rather have Anderson or Landry at 8...

But with that extra second round pick now they could decide that DE and S are deep enough to get good ones in the second and go DT in the first...

Some think Okoye slides out to DE... I don't though... I think he's too short and not fast enough to make up for his lack of height...

Petrino went to the wrong organization if he wants to have serious input on the draft......

USC's Jarrett less than impressive at Pro Day

All-American wide receiver's 40-yard dash times are north of 4.6 seconds, well behind teammate Smith and even linebacker Sartz.

...

Jarrett's pass-catching workout wasn't smooth, either. His cuts weren't nearly as sharp as Smith, and he slipped and fell on one. A scout for an AFC team described Jarrett, who is 6-foot-5 and 214 pounds, as stiff.

NFL.com draft analyst Gil Brandt is reporting former U.S.C. wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett (6-4, 214) ran his 40s in 4.67 and 4.62 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.20 and the three-cone drill in 7.28 at his Pro Day (today). He also had a 36?-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-1 broad jump.

Pro Day Rising & Falling

Rising: OSU Roy Hall, NEB Andrew Shanle, ND Brady Quinn, AKR Andy Alleman, ATM Jason Jack
(others: NIU Garrett Wolfe, BROWN Zak DeOssie, Houston RB/FB Jackie Battle, OSU QB Justin Zwick, WVU Brandon Myles)

Falling: ND Rhema McKnight, MIA Kareem Brown, PSU Tony Hunt, UF Earl Everett, UGA Daniel Inman, LSU Chase Pittman,
(others: NH WR David Ball, AUB OG Tim Duckworth, SC ATH Syvelle Newton, WVU LB Kevin McClee, OU OLB Rufus Alexander)
Ohio State WR Roy Hall

Some Background: The 6-3/240-pound Hall entered spring football in 2006 set to compete to start with Anthony Gonzalez outside. He fell out of the competition early, and eventually behind young Brians Hartline and Robiskie on the depth chart.

What He Did: Ran forties of 4.41 and 4.42. His short shuttle time was 4.13 and he continued to impress with his jumps, reaching 37.5 inches on the vertical and 10-foot-3 inches with his long leap.

Outcome: There will still likely be questions about his work ethic considering his depth-chart tumble in 2006, but this workout may have been just enough for someone to take a late flier. Hall could be viewed as a tight end in the Randy McMichael mold.

...

Ohio State QB Justin Zwick (6-4/230), or "the forgotten man," ran forties of 4.77 and 4.78. His story is somewhat similar to that of Matt Cassel a few years ago. Zwick, a huge recruit coming to OSU, could go in the seventh round.

Roy Hall, Ohio State, (6-2, 229) ran 4.41 and 4.42 in the 40. He also notched a 37 ?-inch vertical, a 10-foot-3 broad jump, a 4.13 short shuttle, a 6.65 three-cone drill and 19 bench presses.

DD.comment: Career backup for the Buckeyes, who put forth a fancy display at the school's Pro Day. Most productive college season was 2004 when he collected 17 receptions for 230 yards and 1 TD. Played sparingly the last two seasons, however. Despite his lack of playing time at O.S.U., he was invited to the Hula Bowl and fared well during the week in Hawaii. At 6' 2" and almost 230 pounds, he may also project as an H-Back in the N.F.L.

More Pro Day Rising/Falling

Rising: PITT CB Darrelle Revis, STAN QB Trent Edwards, MISS LB Patrick Willis, UM OLB/DE Lamarr Woodley, PSU OLB Tim Shaw, HAMP CB Calvin Bannister, OLB UGA Danny Verdun Wheeler, MAINE S Darren Stone, NICHST OT Jacob Bender, WF DE/OLB Jyles Tucker

Falling:
UM DT Alan Branch, PSU RB Tony Hunt, NH WR Dave Ball, APP ST LB Marques Murrell, UGA OT Dan Inman

Michael Bush needs another surgery, crushing (eliminating?) his draft stock (see article for more info).
Lamarr Woodley/OLB-DE/Michigan: After almost two months of inactivity Woodley knew his draft stock was slipping mightily. He reversed that trend on March 16 by completing 29 repetitions on the bench and running his 40 times just under 4.8 seconds. His vertical jump of 38.5 inches was better than all but six of the receivers from the combine. He has solidified himself as a top-60 choice.
...
Alan Branch/DT/Michigan: As was the case at the combine Branch looked out of shape at pro-day. Participating in just the defensive line drills, he was winded only a few minutes into the session. At one point Branch was considered a potential top-six pick, but now he will likely slip out of the draft's first dozen selections.
...
The Buckeye's other underclassmen receiver is watching his draft stock move north. Several teams are considering using a pick early in Round 2 for Anthony Gonzalez as they feel he will be an asset off the field as well as on it. Teams understand Gonzalez is an outstanding football player and a young man of high character, yet they also feel his ethnic background could be key in reaching out to surrounding communities.

DD.comment: This is one reason why he have projected Gonzalez going to the Chargers in our main mock draft with the 30th overall pick for the two last months. Here is our thought process:
1: Gonzalez, based on his production at Ohio State and his excellent showing at the Combine, is a borderline first-to-second round pick.
2: The Chargers are in need of wide receiver help and did not get it in free agency, so there is a good chance they use their #1 pick on a wide receiver.
3: Even though Gonzalez can trace his heritage back to Europe (Spain and Germany), his Hispanic surname, plus his eagerness to embrace his Cuban roots and the Spanish language, could make him a valuable marketing commodity in a place like San Diego, which is a few steps away from the border of Mexico.
By the way, using the same logic, we can easily see the Dallas Cowboys, perhaps, considering him in the first round. Although 22nd overall may seem a bit too high for Gonzalez, you really never know. Who ever expected that former Ohio State star Donte Whitner could go #9 overall in the 2006 draft?

I wonder why Tony Hunt's stock is falling according to that article. He had a great week leading up to and including the Senior Bowl.
From the SI article:
Tony Hunt/RB/Penn State: After showing up at the Senior Bowl overweight then not working out at the combine, Hunt needed a huge pro-day performance. He did not meet expectations. Unable to break 4.7 in the 40, his draft stock will take a beating. Many teams now project Hunt as a fullback.

Tony Hunt's draft stock is falling?

I don't know how the MVP of the senior bowl can be considered to not have had a good showing there.

That guy is a player, and a tough RB. Him and Pittman are both guys who I see being successful in the NFL, regardless if they have good hype in the draft or not.
