2006 Heisman Discussion (merged all)

They want to TRY and make things interesting... It's Troy's as of now, but Quinn's to gain, he'll have to have 350-400 yards and a win over USC. But my vote is still for Troy Smith! :osu:
Brady Quinn will need to throw for over 85% and have 8 TDs and 0 INTs with over 450 yards passing to have a chance in the heisman. And i'm not joking...anything less than that and he has ZERO chance. A lot of people have already sent in their ballots.

Troy Smith will win the heisman. I'd not only bet 4900 to win 100, i'd bet anything to win anything. This race was OVER when Teddy Ginn recovered the onside kick.

McFadden and Hart deserve a trip, especially since they'll be setting up next year in the process.

Is Hart coming back for his senior year a sure thing? I haven't seen anything, but I haven't been looking either. I assumed he might go pro, since he'd be near the top of this year's RB class, IMO.

Hart still hasn't beaten OSU, and he's been the leader of that team for at least two years now. I think he comes back for that reason alone.

Besides, he is considered undersized and probably won't run a good 40 time. I don't see him getting a good draft projection this year.

I agree. If I were him, I'd want to come back and get one more shot at a Smith-less Buckeye team. I just wonder if he'd leave early if he'd be a first-round pick. His size is certainly a question mark. I agree with you about measurables. I wasn't taking that into account. I'm just thinking that maybe next year's running back class would be a little "thicker" and less attractive to fight through (McFadden, Slaton, Pittman, just to name a few). Maybe a bowl game would also have some effect. We shall see...

Well at the moment Brady is 7 for 21. It is now official(not that there was any doubt) Troy Smith is our heisman winner!!

I just got done watching Quinn's heisman shot go up in smoke. All the ND fans I was with kept arguing the "who's more valuable to his team" point of view. That is garbage. The fact is Troy is the BEST player in college football this year. That is understood, but regardless of that, I did a little research and this is interesting. Over the past few years, the Heisman has pretty much gone to the best player on the best team. The Heisman Trophy presentation takes place before the bowl season. Looking at the last six years, the National Championship games and Heisman Trophy winners were as follows

2005 - USC v Texas: Heisman winner, USC -Bush
2004 - USC v Oklahoma: Heisman winner, USC - Leinart
2003 - LSU v Oklahoma: Heisman winner, Oklahoma - White
2002 - OSU v Miami; Heisman winner, USC - Palmer
2001 - Miami v Nebraska; Heisman winner, Nebraska -Crouch
2000 - Oklahoma v FSU; Heisman winner, FSU - Weinke

Only once since 2000, has the Heisman winner not been a part of the BCS championship game!

In three of the past six years (2004 & 2005, USC was #1 going into the game. In 2003, Oklahoma was #1 going into the game) the winner comes from the #1 team. That #1 team would be the pre-bowl seed and was the "best team". In two other years, (2001, Nebraska was #2 and in 2000, FSU was #2) the winner came from a player not on the "best team", but participating in the national championship game.

2002, when USC was #4, is the only time the heisman winner was not in the BCS championship game.

As much as you'd like to think it's not the case, the Heisman goes to the best player on the best team these days....and his name is Troy Smith.

It's all but official now: Troy Smith=2006 Heisman Trophy Winner... Potentially solidifying two other awards also: Davey O'Brian Award (Best QB)and the Walter Camp Award (Most Outstanding Player)

Nice work....and to add to it....

That was aided by the media love fest for NA, and Dorsey & McGahee splitting votes. If Palmer hadn't had a career day vs NA, Dorsey or McGahee could have completed your list.

By NA do you mean Notre Dame?
