2005 Alamo Bowl: Nebraska 32, Michigan 28 (final)

AKAK,
I think thats the first time i've seen that posted.. any stats to back your rogue opinion?

Well, according to my calculations... which can be found in any math book... If you have Michigans D, multiplied by points allowed divided by the number of games played and mulitply that product by itself... you'll find that not only dones Michigan's defense "suck"... it actually "sucks2"

Carr on the other hand is clueless. Carr is good for Ohio State, because he's really going to start hurting Michigan in recruiting, luster, appeal, and he just can't beat Ohio State. So I don't want to see Carr go...but after this, how could you not fire the guy? After saying the bowl didn't matter, that you deserve a new years day bowl, and then not showing up. Michigan's so stupid they won't fire him.

As long as Bo Schembechler is alive, Lloyd's job is secure. UM allowed Bo to roam the sidelines from '69 - '89 despite beginning his carrer with seven bowl losses. Nothing short of a collapse of John Mackovic/Arizona proportions would lead to Lloyd getting the boot, nevermind that the decision probably runs through Bo anyway.

Carr's biggest crime isn't that he's clueless, it's that he's an arrogant, whining, prick. Losing ball games in and of itself isn't his problem, it's how graceless he is about it: snubbing the opposing coaches and players, blaming somebody else, like the clock operator or the refs or the opponents' campus security detail ...

Carr is pathetic, but as long as Bo is around Carr is the only coach Michigan will have for the forseeable future. Here's hoping Bo is around a long, long time.

I was hoping that Michigan would win this game because I root for any Big Ten teams in their bowl games, and it's disappointing that they had to lose to a Big 12 team. Now all we're going to hear about is how the Big 12 is so superior to the Big Ten. What a finish, though.

Undercover Coach?

BTW, the Stadium & Main site is doing their best to get e-mail complaints out to the Alamo Bowl & Sun Belt Conferences over the pathetic and inept officiating in last night's game. LINK

Quick point of order, which conference provided the officiating crew for the Alamo Bowl last year?

Okay...just watched the clip of the final play. I wasn't able to watch the game...but wow, was that amazing. And if 89 would have pitched the ball back, and then blocked...it would have been a TD easy...Or he could have just...slowed down, and used the other two michigan guys as blockers. The whole thing was amazing, but then at the end...89 forgot what was going on, and just runs straight for the sideline and defender. He could have just stopped, let the blockers go in front of him...and then walked into the endzone...or just pitch it to one of the fastest guys in the Big 10...and watch him score.

I know 89 has some bizarre politics :p but I had no idea he was a Michigan player too. Gosh, now I have to go ding him. :p

Refusing to mark the ball quickly <hr> and in a fashion normal with the time running down cost U of M more than 10 seconds. Clearly this was a deliberate move. More than anything that happened in this game, this action justifies this crew's dismissal from further NCAA sanctioned games.

I'm glad they called it like they saw it tonight.

About the only thing close were the comments from Dick Vermeil at the '97 Rose Bowl. Near the end of the game he commented 'these officials ought to donate their check to charity' over the horrible officiating.

If I remember correctly, those RB officials were from a 2nd tier conference.

Re: Refusing to mark the ball quickly <hr> Tirico and Herbstreit, IMO, are the best announcers out there for football. At one point on of them also made the comment about the 'incompetence of the replay official'. I agree with using officials from a conference not involved in the game, but these small conference officials should NOT be allowed to ref bowl games. You can't tell me there wasn't an SEC, ACC, or Pac 10 crew available.

Re: Refusing to mark the ball quickly <hr> The question was also raised as to whether or not Sun Belt officials would be able to keep up with the talent on the field.

I thought that was going a bit far when it was first suggested, but at the end of the game that thought really seemed to have some merit.

Neither team played well, but the officiating definitely had a major impact.

Sorry Blue, I was pulling for you. I have to buy one of my Nebraska cohorts dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, so I'm feeling the pain of the loss.

Why the heck didn't they put some time back on the clock...once again, the reply booth could have corrected the problem (although I am not sure they can intervene in a clock issue unless asked??)

Re: Refusing to mark the ball quickly <hr> Without a doubt, worse officiated game I ever watched. I hope that the NCAA develops some kind of standardized review system. It sucked that Lloyd had to burn his timeouts to get the replays. There were too many crappy calls to list them all. Still, with an 11 point lead, your inability to run the ball really cost you. A 5 loss season is not what you hope for, but considering all the injuries you had there was not a game that you were not in. Get healthy and we'll see you in C-bus next year. Go B10, except PSU. I swear Zack, your brain must secrete a chemical that blocks out the sound of my voice!

Re: Refusing to mark the ball quickly <hr> These officials were so out of their league it was scary. Look at positioning and the like. On the TD reversal, That official should be in front of the play not behind. On the missed Interfence call the back judge was not in the middle of the field where he belongs. No excuse for poor positioning.

I don't know if the coaches were trying to protect his confidence by leaving him in the game, but it's the last game of the season here.

Re: Michigan football really only has 2 Big Problems... <hr> Speed backs are really hurting us, on offense and defense. On offense, we don't have a back with speed that can get to the outside corner. On defense, we have trouble with backs that can get to the outside. This may be, in part, due to our defense not getting any reps against speed backs during practice.

That's just my guess, anyway, and why I believe Carlos Brown will help us in more ways than one.

theres not one ohioian on the scum team that would start for the BUCKEYES and lucky to be on the 2nd team

Tressel rules

What happened to the five star recruits Burgess and Crable. They were suppossed to be the biggest loses and were suppossed to be studs up there. Also Massey was supossed to be a big lose, he can't even beat out Ecker for the #1 TE, at least he is sitting behind an All-american.

Edit: I would gladly take Manningham from them, but he would of redshirted here, b/c of our depth.

Also the only person I would honestly take and place in our starting lineup would be Woodley, but he would only play in certain situations when Carp was at LB and not playing with his hand down.
