2005 Alamo Bowl: Nebraska 32, Michigan 28 (final)

scUM always puts me in this position.

My head tells me I should be dissapointed because its an embarrassing loss for the B10 but every other fiber of my being is just enjoying the living shit out of their collective 7-5-can't beat our rival-can't win a Bowl game-misery.

I just hope they don't fire the incompetent prick.

Let me start by saying that the officiating was absolutely deplorable in that game. I feel sorry for Sun Belt football fans for having to put up with that kind of ineptitude week in and week out during the reguar season. The fact that those guys were officiating a bowl game, even if it was a lesser bowl game, is a total joke.

That being said, scUM needs to look at themselves and not the refs as the reason for losing that game. Avant's fumble, Henne's fumble, not being able to hold onto a lead by blowing a 15 point lead in the 4th quarter, and the TE at the end of the game not being smart enough to pitch the ball to Breaston even though Breaston was running right behind him for 35+ yards; these are all signs of a bad team and one that didn't deserve to win.

As has been said before, NU isn't a great team; however, you've got to give them credit for having the heart to battle back in a game that should have been over. Their defense forced crucial turnovers, and the offense capitalized on them by scoring TDs and a critical two point conversion.

Notwithstanding anything I said in this post, I'm sure Lllloyd will continue his usual post-loss actions by not giving the other team any credit at all, not so tacitly alluding to the fact that the refs cost him the game, and calling his team unlucky. I had to laugh last night when I heard either before or during the game one of the commentators say that Lllloyd said that this year's scUM team was the most unlucky team he's ever coached. Just another example of Lllloyd deflecting and not facing up to reality--the fact is that scUM lost 5 games this year even though they won two games in overtime. Thus, they could very, very easily have lost 6 or 7 games. Of course, Lllloyd won't see it that way. In his mind, his team should have been undefeated or only lost one game, if it weren't for scUM being so darn unlucky.

Well, all that and their defense is just terrible.

This is the last play. I haven't watched it bc I'm at work, so if this isn't please let me know and I'll take it down.

That's pretty funny. I hadn't seen the end of the game until now. I think that Michigan fans need to look at Ecker's decision to try to be "The Man" for why they lost.

Does Henne get credit for a 55-yard pass play? Who gets the receiving yards? I think Avant caught the forward pass (but I may be wrong), but if Ecker gets the receiving yards, maybe Ecker gets credit for the reception?

I think it was a forward pass, at least the angle I saw.

I forgot how shitty the refs were, go wacth the highlights on ESPN motion. The constant bad calls are unreal. Why were the sunbelt officals doing this game. There was one team with a winning record in the confernce and they were 6-5. Rajun Cajuns, North Texas, Arkansas State...c'mon. Why not pac 10, sec, acc, hell even the big east.

However, UM shouldnt of been in that situation, there defense let up again. Ecker should of pitched the ball, but heres another thought: No michigan players were blocking. They gave up. Theres a guy jogging infront of ecker as breaston was trailing. One block is all he needed. Shit, breaston could of been the hero with a chop block out in front.

..Or ecker could of pitched it:biggrin:
