2005-2006 Latest Men's Basketball Rankings (Currently #6)

I hate to sit and think about the "what if's" with the close losses to Indiana and Michigan State, especially with the leads we had in those games. At least the tournament creates a new season.

hmm... i hadn't thought about those two games in terms of 'what ifs.' i was more thinking along the lines of the fact that the team has come a long way since then... think about it, the Illini made a serious push yesterday, but the Buckeyes simply put their foot down, and said, "i don't think so." i think that maye three weeks ago, the Illini would have taken them down to the wire, but the kids have matured a lot since then, and would not allow it to happen. i haven't seen every game this year, but although the defensive intensity has been good pretty much the entire season, earlier on, when the other team made the inevitable run, they would screw up enough on O to let the opponent all the way back. that feed from Foster to Dials with the Illini only down 9, and the ensuing monster dunk was pretty significant to me in terms of the progress this team has made. momentum can swing pretty quickly in a basketball game, and to me that dunk signified that the Buckeyes were taking the Mo back, whether the Illini wanted to give it up or not... i think that was the biggest play of the season so far...

i'm trying not to let my expectations get too high, but... damn, it's great to be a Buckeye!!!

WVU is a final four team

I strongly disagree. Ohio State IS a better shooting team than West Virginia, and has an inside game that WVU doesn't dream of having. Pitt showed that constant perimeter pressure will frustrate their shooters.

Honestly, I don't think WVU could beat Ohio State unless the Bucks were having a freezing cold day. Dials would dominate Pittsnogle inside. Foster would hound Gansey. It would be ugly I think.

Like it was posted above: If WVU is a final four team, then Ohio State is a legit title contender. And I'm not ready to say the latter right now.

I don't agree that the Bucks would have to be freezing cold to get beat by WVU.....and I don't know how Dials would do guarding Pittsnogle out around the 3 point line.

That said, I hate WVU basketball...so I'm not going to put up too much of a fight. They are a tough team to match up with.

Nice jump in the polls this week. I think we deserve to be ahead of WV, but it really doesn't matter much with Basketball rankings. If we continue to win things will fall into place. At this point this season, we deserve a 2 seed.
Joe Lunardi has us as a #2 seed right now, playing the first two rounds in Dayton. That would be awesome. If Ohio State plays at UD Arena, that place will be JAM PACKED with Buckeye fans!!! And that place gets A LOT louder than the Schott.

As a 3 seed we could also end up in Dayton. As a 2 seed we'd be in UConn's bracket most likely, and as a 3 seed we'd be in Duke's. Cuz they would likely put Duke in Greensboro, and UConn in Philly.
