2005-2006 Latest Men's Basketball Rankings (Currently #6)

I am glad you guys agree with me.

After the brief stint at #2, they have played like shit and are 5-4, and almost 4-5. I believe they needed a comeback against Vandy or someone, not sure, but they were getting beat most of the game.

Illinois is the same way. They have been fading lately.

Florida is 2-2 in their last four games....losing to South Carolina and Arkansas but beating Kentucky and Vanderbilt. South Carolina and Arkansas are not even ranked.

Illinois is 2-2 in their last four games, losing at home to Penn State and on the road against tOSU. They defeated Northwestern and Indiana at home who have a combined 22 losses on the year.

tOSU on the other hand is 3-1 in their last four with 2 victories over ranked teams and a tough loss on the road against Wisconsin by 5, where no one wins.

The voters need to get a clue.

Actually it was LSU instead of Kentucky. Kentucky was the 5th game and if you go that far they are 3-2.

They lost at home to an unranked team. Hardly a thing in the top 10 should have on their resume this late in the season, Especially after losing to Arkansas another unranked team even know it was on the road and in OT.

O Yeah and the killer stat right here. They have ONE(yeah one win against a team that is ranked right now and that is LSU). Yeah the same team that we also beat.

As for Illinois, we smashed them head up and have been more impressive than them, but yet they are top 10 material.

Our four losses have been:

@ IU by a late shitty foul call, the only team to truely play them at full strength when they had White.

Vs. MSU, In double OT by 3 pts.

@ Iowa where they are undefeated this year and we are tied with for the big ten lead.

@ Wisky who has only lost 2 games at the Kohl center in how ever many years.

I'd say we move up to #8 with a proper spanking of scUM Saturday. At this point though, rankings don't mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. We win the conference, and Big-10 tourney, we'll be sitting pretty with a #2 seed.

I say we move into the top 10 after we beat scUM. If we win out, and win the the Big 10 tourney there is an outside shot of us getting a #1 seed. Our RPI was at #7 before we beat MSU, it can only rise if we win out. Wouldn't that be something, tOSU at #1 seed. I'd be happy with a #2 seed, in which we will probably get.

That is a very good point. If we win the big ten and win the big ten tourney we should be a lock to get a number 1 seed.

Wow. I absolutely LOVE the thinking here, but honestly, I think a #1 seed is a real longshot for this team, let alone being a lock. Even if we DO win the Big Ten regular season AND the Big Ten Tourny, I think the media hype of Duke/Memphis/Nova/Uconn/Gonzaga/Texas/George Washington will keep OSU outside of a #1 seed. I'm pretty sure that you'll see 4-5 conference tourny champs in those 7 (Memphis, Zaga, and GW are virtual locks), and with 4-5 of those teams acing their games down the stretch, it'll be hard for this team, no matter HOW hot they end up becoming, to be seen as one of the top 4 teams in the land.

When it comes down to it, this team beat everyone that it was supposed to beat. However, we lost 3 of our 4 hardest road games this year, and I think that could set of alarms to voters. Victories over ILL, WIS, @um, @msu, LSU, and @stjoes all carry a lot of weight, but only one was over a top 10 team (we beat ILL when they were #8 at the time, and I'd say it's unlikely they end in the top 10). Our inconsistency shooting as of late might make voters think we're not quite a premier team, as well.

I think we have at least a #3 seed all but wrapped up if we win out the regular season (and we will probably still get it even if we don't). If we do well in the B10 tourny, you'll see us as a solid #2 seed. IF we end up winning the B10 Tourny (which I'd be hesitant to put money on ANY given team to win... ESPECIALLY this year), I see a #1 seed as a longshot, although possible. Lock is way to strong of a word at this point, even if everything works out in our favor.

I think if we win out the regular season, and win one game in the Big Ten tourney, we'll be a 2 seed. If we win the tourney I don't see how we won't be a 1 seed. How can you not reward a 4 loss team from one of, if not the best conferences in the league with a 1 seed. Plus, we've played a very tough schedule this year. Without looking, I'm sure it's as good as nearly every team that you cited above.

Honestly, I don't think there is a huge difference in being a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA tourney, but the recognition would be cool.

IF we win the rugular season B10 AND the B10 tourney it would be very hard for the selection commitee.

How do you not give a team with our record, no bad losses, who are the reg season and tourney champs of the top RPI conference in America serious consideration for a #1 seed? I'm not saying its a lock, just that consideration would have to be given.

Realistically, I say we win the regular season, make a deep run in the B10 tourney and wrap up a #2 seed.

Sorry, but I highly doubt OSU gets a #1 seed. They would have to win out through the tourney, and have Memphis, Gonzaga, and Texas choke in their tourneys.

Winning the Big Ten regular season AND Conference Tourny WILL get you a #2 seed in a better bracket though. Depending on how the selection committee picks, it will either land you a spot in the Washingon DC regionals or a spot in the weakest #1 seed's bracket.....probably Memphis, Gonzaga, or Texas.

Assuming Duke, Uconn, Nova, and Memphis are the #1 seeds (Which they probably will be), I think we are a lock for a #2 seed if we win out, regardless of how we do in the BT Tourney. Gonzaga, Tennessee and Pitt will probably be #2's. The only thing I could maybe see happening is Illinois jumping in there with a big ten tournament championship.
