Game Thread (2004) Bowl Game: MasterCard Alamo Bowl - Oklahoma State - 12/29/04 (W, 8-4/4-4)

Sometimes our playcalling is terrible.

We can be a dangerous team. We could put up 40 on most teams, just depends on what type of day our coaches have.

Defense? Ugh. We've been bend-no-break forever now.

We are the KINGS OF 3RD DOWNS! You have a 3rd and 16? NO PROBLEM! Our defensive backs will give you a 20 yard cusion!!! BUT, teams don't score that much on us.

DL: Decent DL, not great. We have a couple of big men in the middle... and some decent ends, but we will rarely get to a QB. They are really young

Sound familiar!?!

I like this matchup for the Buckeyes. Ok St is a good team. However, in my opinion, if they run the ball 77% of the time against tOSU, Ok St will be in trouble. Their running back is very good though. I would probably put a spy on thier QB. I like the matchup of Youboty on Woods and Fox on their other WR.

Hello Buckeyes

Looks like the Alamo Bowl will be one heck of a game. Im looking forward to meeting a lot of you folks in San Antonio. If you run into me, I will buy you a beer. I will be the guy in orange! heh heh

How many people do you anticipate traveling?

Since The Ohio State University is the "Home" team, will the Big 10 instant replay rule be in effect for the Alamo Bowl? What did you think of the instant replay this season? Good or Bad?

First off, Welcome Ben. Glad to have you.

You pose a great question about the instant replay, I'm not sure if it will be in play or not. I would have to say "No" since both teams aren't a member of the Big 10 conference.

Replay had little effect on our season this year. There will a few times that the refs got the call wrong, but couldn't change it because a whistle had arleady blown. I don't like replay, becuase it doesn't cover everything. Sometimes things can be overturned, and sometimes they can't. Not only is it confusing, but it's not really fair either. The refs are going to make bad calls, just let them even out. Instant replay just makes bad calls seem even worse, and makes fans more angry I think.

I thought in the regular season OOC teams could choose whether or not they wanted replay if they played a Big Ten school. Not sure how that works for a Bowl Game.

Welcome aboard, Ben. I'll see if I can't hook you up with an Okie State ribbon.

Welcome Ben. The Instant Replay Rule is optional for all out of conference opponents of Big Ten teams. Meaning, it will be Oklahoma State's choice whether to use it or not. At least that's how all non conference games were for this season. The bowl game might have some other restrictions in place, but that would be from the Bowl Committee or the TV Networks, etc., not from the Big Ten.

The instant replay system has been absolutely fantastic. It has been extremely efficient, quick, and accurate. I haven't seen all of the non-OSU BigTen games, but I've seen at least two dozen replays and all of them have been right on teh mark.

The only one that comes to mind as being negative was simply the referees not being used to the replay system. Against Wisconsin, the replay proved that Wisconsin fumbled but the ref had inadvertantly blown his whistle too early. This was just a simple mistake which I never saw again (they always take their time blowing the whistle on such plays since then).

I would be shocked if the NCAA didn't adopt their replay system. It seems pretty clear that it removes a lot of doubt in the college game and doesn't require gambling like it does in the NFL system.

Ben, First Welcome.....and hopefully I run into you for that beer.

Secondly, I agree with BFS......I think the way that it has been done, that its been pretty good. We did get hosed a couple of times (Wisconsin fumble for one) but over all not bad. If they did it the way the NFL did though, I wouldnt like it.

Welcome to the Planet.
I think any game where the home team is from the Big Ten has the instant replay feature. I remember when I was watching the OSU @ NC State game, one of the commentators said "if this game was in Columbus, that play would be reviewed". I don't know if it counts for Bowl Games or not though.

I was hoping to get some of the "other OSU" fans over here...welcome!

I think the hawk "interception" was another time where the replay faltered a bit. Otherwise, I think it has been done superbly.

Nice to hear from Oklahoma St fans, thanks for the chime in. I think this should be an interesting game which will solely focus on if Ohio State can stop your running attack. I just hope to see the run defense that we showed against Michigan and not Wisconsin.
