Game Thread (2004) Bowl Game: MasterCard Alamo Bowl - Oklahoma State - 12/29/04 (W, 8-4/4-4)

You can go the the aqlamo's official website and buy them at face...

I doubt there will be much premium... some might pay more to "upgrade" tickets that the normal population doesn't get (ie, not from the school but from the preferred ticket brokers in SanAntonio)...

If you're looking to make money on the deal, good luck (unless you get tickets inside the 30's)... I doubt the game will sellout...

I just read the article at o-state.com regarding the matchup, and was tickled to read the following:
"We are looking forward to welcoming the Ohio State Buckeyes and their famed defense and their resurgent offense against Oklahoma State with their power running attack in this year’s MasterCard Alamo Bowl"
Resurgent is the most flattering adjective anyone has assigned Ohio State's offense all year!!! :p

Hello Ryno - great descriptive post, don't mind if we forward that whole thing to Tressel/Snyder do you?

In re National Championships --- did you check the list of coed champ leaders.
All of West Virginia's 13 coed championships are in Rifle. Was kinda expecting them to max out in coed wrestling, evidently there were not enough near relatives to make a team.
Still Coed? Rifling? - nothing wrong with that.

You'll get a fight around here proclaiming the oOSU kicker as the best at anything. <g> Our guy Nugent really is special. Nate Kaeding (Iowa) was drafted in the third round last year by the Chargers. He's a good K, but I'd be shocked if Nugent doesn't go higher. Heck, he's a team captain and team mvp this year. A kicker!

Our actual kicker is a freshman that is okay and will be great by his junior year. But we have an amazing punter that has sorta had a dissappointing year. Our punter, Cole Farden, does are kickoffs too. He is amazing. He has kicked a ton through the uprights and will sometimes kick it high and right to the goal line. And when I say right to it, I mean w/in a yard or two. On those kicks we always stop them around the 15 or under unless we have bad coverage.

I think the game will be decided when we have the ball because you've mentioned that your defense has trouble on third down, and we struggled to convert on third (or any other down) most of the season.
Their will be multiple keys. If you guys do a good job on third downs, you will probably win. But also it matters what Ok State team/coaching staff shows up. This year has been up and down for us cowboys and the coaching staff has cost us a few games b/c of the conservative play calling. Personally, I think that is the main key. If we are conservative, we get our butts kicked, but if not, it should be a good game.

If our offense plays like it did against M*ch*gan, I like our chances.
If your offense plays like they did against Michigan, we(Ok State) will get our arses kicked unless we play lights out too. But personally, I think it is impossible to play that good 2 times in a row.

At least that is what I'm telling myself.

Since both Ohio State and Oklahoma State "travel well" (meaning lots of their fans will go to an away game, especially a bowl game), scalped pickins may be slim. Last week when I journeyed down to the Alamodome Box Office, the only tickets they had left were in either end zone and the upper deck (upper deck tickets come with complimentary oxygen tank). The legit ticket resellers were charging $195 - $300 a seat. Your best pre-game day bet is probably eBay. With many Buckeye fans living here in Texas planning to go to the game, if you wait to the last minute you probably won't sit on the Ohio State side (Home side) of the Alamodome.

Of course, if I waited until game day to try and score tickets, I'd have a bleeding ulcer by the time kickoff rolled around!

Oklahoma State Coach Les Miles Talks of His Meatchicken Ties

Alamo takes fan-friendly Oklahoma State

So it is with Oklahoma State coach Les Miles. A former Wolverines player, Miles eagerly accepted the Big12 berth in the Dec. 29 MasterCard Alamo Bowl against the Buckeyes on Sunday.

The game will present Miles, a letterman for the Wolverines in 1973-74, with his first opportunity as a head coach to square off against the school that used to be his most bitter adversary.

"We couldn't be happier," Miles said. "I grew up in Elyria, Ohio, and obviously followed (the Buckeyes) back there. I'm looking forward to rekindling an old rivalry."

Texas Tech was presumed to be the Alamo Bowl's top choice after the Red Raiders' 31-15 victory over the Cowboys in the teams' Nov. 27 season finale. But Texas' BCS leap into the Rose Bowl wrecked the Alamo Bowl's plans to pair up the No. 4 teams from both the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences. Oklahoma State, 7-4, finished fifth in the Big 12 South this season.

But Oklahoma State appears to be a nice consolation prize. The Cowboys have one of the most devoted fan bases in the Big 12 and likely will bring as many people to San Antonio as Tech would have.

Oklahoma State set a record for non-Texas teams by bringing 22,000 fans to the 1997 game, its only previous appearance in the Alamo Bowl. The Cowboys lost to Purdue 36-20.

"We couldn't be happier about them coming," Alamo Bowl president and chief executive officer Derrick Fox said. "They have a proven record of coming here strongly in the past. They were here in big numbers at the (men's basketball) Final Four earlier this year. We're excited about getting them to come and think they will give us a good game."

The Cowboys opened 5-0 and were ranked 16th before losing to Texas A&M on Oct. 16. That defeat started a swoon that saw them drop four of their last six games.

Miles' team relies on a strong ground game ranked eighth nationally in rushing, averaging 245 yards per game. The Cowboys lead the nation in turnover margin at plus-18.

Vernand Morency has rushed for 1,454 yards to rank eighth nationally and third in the Big 12. The Cowboys scored 35 points against both UT and Oklahoma, but they lost both games because of defensive struggles.

Injuries dogged the Cowboys late in the season. Miles welcomed the break after the end of the regular season.

"Our people are looking forward to playing well in San Antonio," Miles said. "We see this as a great destination and a great opportunity for our team."

Oklahoma State already has pre-sold more than 12,500 tickets, almost 1,500 more than the bowl's minimum, Fox said. The school expects to sell more to the general public once regular ticket sales begin this week.

Fox said the early announcement of Ohio State last month has enabled them to be about 11,000 tickets ahead of last year's pace. The Buckeyes have never played in San Antonio before.

The two teams have met only once. Ohio State beat Oklahoma State 37-13 on Sept. 16, 1989. Current Oklahoma State assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Gundy was the starting quarterback on that Oklahoma State team.

It's good to see some of the Oklahoma State fans over here... welcome to the planet.

Expect the Buckeye Nation to show up in full force... we are one the best (if not THE best) traveling school in the nation. Just ask Cryami about the Fiesta Bowl
Be glad you are playing us & not the Oklahoma Sooners. Granted, we have our fair share of jerks (all teams do), but the majority of the RedNeck Nation is a bunch of inbread hillbilly bast*rds! We hate the Dirt Burglars.

Off the subject, last year in the Cotton Bowl, we played Ole Miss. I enjoyed interacting with their fans. They have a great chant with "Hotty Toddy". What types of traditions will we see in San Antonio from the Buckeyes?
Dont say winning! heh heh
We are going to try to keep that from happening!

THE BAND... Ben, watch Ohio State's band - The Best Damn Band in the Land! No offense, our band is going to blow yours away. If you're at the game, watch them do Script Ohio. One of the best traditions in all of college football. It's not the same as seeing it at the 'Shoe, but it's still awesome.

Also, we do an O-H-I-O chant that will go around the stadium. If you can catch one of our more recent big games on ESPiN Classic, you might notice it.
