Game Thread (2004) Bowl Game: MasterCard Alamo Bowl - Oklahoma State - 12/29/04 (W, 8-4/4-4)

I think we'd both be happy if we could renew the rivalry next year in the national championship game :wink2: . Wow...talk about premature hype. haha!
That is what it is all about isn't it though?

Didn't read this whole thread, so if it's been covered, I apologize. Morency is the real deal. Ohio State has stopped feature backs of this sort before, but it is no sure thing that Ohio State will do so again (Man, I just realized I can't just say OSU)

In any case, if Morency is stopped, I have little faith in the Okie St. pass game. I'm sure it is capable, but I doubt it can be relied on. Woods to Woods sounds nice, but unless you follow the game with some degree of intensity, no one has heard of that connection. I don't mean that to be offensive, just realistic. If you still had Rashaun Woods, then I'd be more impressed with the 1st posts' contention that it's possible Woods is the best WR in the nation.
First let me say that every team has said the same thing. All of them have been unable to shut him down. And to think he has been injured basicly the whole season is simply amazing.

The passing game is okay and underrated. D'Juan Woods(Rashuan's brother) is faster and bigger. He has made some amazing cathes. On the other side we have Prentiss Elliot. He is amazing and athletic. OU and many other top 10 teams wanted him but backed off b/c of some legal problems, so he is very good. We can't rely on the passing game, but you guys will put a ton in the box and it will basicly come down to can your DBs hold our WRs one-on-one.

from a Buckeye perspective a really intriguing part about this game is how it gives us an early measure of one of next years OOC opponents. You know we have Texas scheduled.

Certainly one of the closer games your team played all year was at Texas - with a 35-36 finish. Further add to that your close showing 35-38 against one of the NC contenders. Fleshing out the positive spin from negative results it looks to me like your squad only lost to ranked teams.

Bottom line for the Buckeyes is that they had a season of 2 distinct halves. Both in terms of results, application, coaching, and on-field personnel.
The Buckeyes ended up growing as a team through the 2nd half of the season as more new blood was brought into full time starting roles.

We lose a few starters next year - that's sure. However, the bulk of the squad returns. Thus, how we fare against the (Other) OSU will be a real litmus test n my view.

I'm betting my Buckeyes have what it takes - specially with run D these days.
It will certainly be one hell of a game though - and make no mistake I have a lot of respect for what Oklahoma State did this year.

Not sure I follow, every team has said Morency is the real deal and despite that we've shut down other feature backs shutting down Vernard is no sure thing? Even Oklahomo fans? I find that hard to believe.

Fields to Woods was more impressive than Woods to Woods. Surely you must admit that. I'm not saying D'Juan sucks, don't get me wrong. Rashaun was a polished Sr. WR and Fields a polished Sr. QB these guys are 1st year guys. OSU.. damn.. Ohio State, I mean.... has 1st year guys all over the place too, so, maybe I'm being too critical of Ok St. Hell, you know your OSU better than I know your OSU, so...

a team that can run the football wont scare me...we are better with 4 dbs than when we go nickel or dime sets. when we take the boar hunter, hawk, or carpenter off the field we lose a lot.

Though bowl games are so intresting, we either get overmatched, or go to a shitty bowl and are so damn depressed we dont show up. id vote for the later baised on previous experience, but we are very young, and we turned it around this year.

we will see, and i cant wait to play b12 teams, osu this year and texas the next 2

It was actually 56-35 Texas. I think we were winning either 28-0 or 35-0 before our coaches changed the way we were playing.
Never let it be said I don't give credit where it isn't due.
(Could blame this on yahoo's idea of score and schedules - but I know better, they still have the reporting date of our win over msu as sometime in december). Doh!

Ok, I meant to say every team has thought they can shut Morency down, but they haven't. Sorry it wasn't clear.

And Fields to Woods is 10xs better. I was just saying that most people underestimate our QB/WR this year and giving you guys an idea of what we have at those positions.

It's cool. Like I said, you know a shitload more about your OSU than I do. I like to keep up with as much College football as I can, but there is no way I can be as in the know about the Cowboys as you. The reason I know anything about Ok St at all is because I run my own college fantasy league, and in doing so look at the stats of every BCS school each week in order to compile weekly results. While Morency was on one guy's roster all year (was one of the more consistent high scoring backs (fantasy points, that is), both Woods' were originally drafted but ultimately dropped as they didn't produce many fantasy points, and certainly weren't consistent. But, that's not to say they aren't underrated or haven't gotten better over the year as a tandem. I suppose next season, when I prepare for the draft I'll have to give those two a closer look.

It is very cool. I was just trying to give you some info. Both Woods don't put up many points b/c we never throw the ball. Now if we actually threw the ball...:wink2:

Yes I agree, you will be doing good if you contain Morency and make Woods pass. I'm just saying that if you contain Morency you will probably have 8 to 9 guys in the box. That puts our WR one-on-one and they are very good when one on one. D'Juan is like his brother Rashuan and uses his body to block the CB and catch it.
