Game Thread #2 tOSU at #3 Oregon, Sat. Oct. 12, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

A bit late to the party, but.....thought Caleb would be leading tackler against Iowa, as I thought he might spy on the Iowa RB. Guess it was Sony, who did lead in tackles, so maybe his assignment was to slide up and down the line as this fella moved? Sounds like Knowles is putting Sony in the right places, hope it continues in Eugene. On DBB time zone observation - when I traveled West to East, one loses three hours of sleep. Used to go to the bar, have a couple shots of Jack, and lay head on pillow. On the flip side, East to West, you simply go to bed when you're tired, at 8:00 instead of 11, get your 8, and do a quick work-out in the hotel gym before breakfast. When we travel, plan on three days ahead of cruise to adjust to the time differential, sight-see on our time clock, before time to go to boat. PS, what has happened to CJ Hicks? Arvell has 'come into his own' at MLB, and appears that the LBs are more stout for it. But haven't heard CJ's name called out much. Anything happening to keep him interested? Go Bucks! Enjoy the game BB, I'd like to hear how this stadium handles the $465 'SRO' people. Can't for the life of me figure out where they're all gonna stand during the game.

So the model predicts an ass beating. I have to be honest I sort of see this similarly as well. I think it’ll be higher scoring though.

I’m thinking 42-23 (3 field goals and 2 TDs for OU).

I think Oregon if they couldn’t stop one dimensional Boise from running the ball then they’re going to struggle to stop OSU who has 2 backs in the same ball park but a better offensive line. Then you factor in the throw game to keep them honest and their tendencies to press and pressure? I think that’s not smart when there’s players like JJ who can hurt you on a simple slant route.

I think Iowa is a better defense than Oregon as well and we could’ve (more like should’ve) put up 49+ on them which is really hard to do. I think Oregon presents different challenges than Iowa but overall Iowa is the more sound and more patient defense.

As for their offense against our defense. I’m a bit concerned as maybe some here remember my comments from the OU/Sparty game probably remember. Their running back impresses me, their TE is a weapon and their QB can scramble. In the end though I think Oregons inability to stay patient will hurt them. They love to go tempo, they struggle in the red zone some, and they love to go for it on 4th down. I think in games like this aggression leads to unsound football and with this in their stadium I think they’re really going to struggle playing with a clear mind.

Overall, I don’t think OU will stop this buckeye offense and I think OU will press on offense to keep up which is going to lead to mistakes (such as giving us short fields). I wouldn’t even be surprised if Oregon scores late to make it look closer.

Much is being made of Oregons WR skill but with the secondary we have and our pass rush (which they haven’t been good at preventing pressure) I don’t think that’s how they’re going to stress us. I hope we do everything to stop their run game because I don’t think their throwing game can beat us.

It will be a hostile environment in Eugene. But our starters, in large part, have been there and done that. Boise State demonstrated that Oregon can be run on and I think our OL and bash and dash should see success as well. If our running game works the good guys should get the W. Limit the penalties and don't turn the ball over.
Basically what every game is about.

Run the ball, no penalties and no turnovers.

Do that and we’ll win.

I bet we will see some scheme, on both sides of the ball, that we haven’t seen yet.

My money is on Caleb Downs playing a wrecker role on defense, and Gee Scott playing a big role on offense as the sneaky weapon.
I'd really rather not. I don't know why we force the ball to TEs when we have the WRs and RBs that we do. Leave Jerry for Nebraska.

I’m betting the coaches clean that up. If anything, I’m betting both staffs turn down their aggressiveness a bit. Lots of margin for error for both squads up until this next weekend. Saturday night? Not so much.

I will say OSU's defense better wrap up when tackling and not worry about the kill shot or their RB will go for 100+
