From the CBS article https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...should-have-stood-in-ohio-state-clemson-game/ , "The NCAA rulebook defines a catch as maintaining "control of the ball long enough to enable [a player] to perform an act common to the game … long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent." "

The rules "expert" working with Fowler and Herbstreet said it was not a catch because he did not make a football move. But the rule states the player only needs time with complete control to make a football move. That "expert" apparently needs stronger reading comprehension skills. Wtf. We could even disregard the rule book and simply use logic. He took four steps. Plenty of time to "make a football move."

"Williamson said the play was reviewed not only by Hodges in the replay booth but at the SEC "video center" in Birmingham, Alabama."

Something about that location makes it even clearer.
The guy had the ball long enough where if it was basketball he'd have been called for traveling.

I always thought that the replay officials were from another conference to avoid any indication of bias. Guess I'm just getting old.

Just noting a few things.:

SEC refs and ACC refs work the ESPN invitational tournament.

ESPN has a vested financial interest in both the SEC and the ACC.

The SEC champ will be playing the ACC champ in the CFP CG on ESPN.
I'll say it for the 100th time, no way in hell LSU drops from #1 to #2 if they dominated a schedule like ours while OSU moves to #1. Buckeyes could've played their C game and still beat Oklahoma by 3 TDs. Probably could've played the 1s for 3 quarters then coast, keeping everyone healthy for whoever came out of the LSU/Clemson war.

Gamecock fan here. After watching y'all play Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan earlier in this year - I gotta say I was even further impressed by Ryan Day/Justin Field's offensive scheme and the overall moxie your team displayed.

You guys showcased some incredible play making ability - and it made for a great football game! Of course y'all obviously got the short end of the stick by the terrible officiating, however, kudos to OSU for making Clem bleed.

I, for one, am certain Joe Brady and Burrow will make good work of the defensive weakness' OSU exposed and stick it to 'em in the natty.

Apparently Clem fans are attributing the win to their stalwart defense, though. Lol, taters gonna tate

Yeah....Roger Reddings, current National officiating Director for NCAA acknowledged they made the incorrect call in overturning the play.

Also confirmed that Gerald Hodges indeed, was the replay official working from a control center in Alabama.

I’m feeling so much better about all of this!!!!!!

What could Ohio State fans have to be paranoid about??????

I said this earlier in the game thread: "Brent Venables is vastly overrated." Don't get me wrong, he's a very good coordinator but not the wizard everyone thinks. Both Alabama last year (442 yards) and Ohio State (516 yards) moved the ball up and down the field on his defenses. Mistakes and bad officiating cost the Buckeyes 4 touchdowns in this game. Ohio State exposed a lot of weaknesses and Joe Burrow is going to shred them.

Does no good now... that said we should refuse to play in games officiated by ESPN and being broadcasted by the SEC.

Thank you, each and every one of you, for the comments during the season and the post-season.
I have enjoyed reading and scribbling a bit, too, and am gonna miss this board.

On a more serious note, I still remember being a senior in high school, with our team undefeated and playing before a crowd of 20,000 at Busch Stadium in Saint Louis. We lost horribly, 33-6, to our archrival. I knew it would happen when the cheerleaders ran onto the field, pregame, carrying our mascot. They tripped, fell down and our mascot was destroyed.
The referees indicated that the mascot was incomplete, because the cheerleaders had not completed a football move.

Now, you know the rest of the story.

Bad calls(even from the booth) happen.

Nationally those who are whining are getting called out as whiners. Let's not do that. It's not a good look. It's never a good look to be complaining about officiating. It just isn't.

Yes, it sucked. Yes, I would have kept it a fumble. But bad calls are part of the game. We lost. It sucks. There is always next year. Let's look to that and stop
whining.

We got beat. And the team that beat us is likely about to take a beating from LSU a good bit worse than the one they gave us.
Brian

Maybe you are the one who should stop whining as well as stop lecturing people. it doesn't look good. We didn't get beat. That I could accept. We got robbed. I will call it for what it is. Stop lecturing people.

I am not overwhelmed or emotional. The only way I can see to stop this is for the B1G to indicate that it intends to boycott the CFP until a clear set of rules are put in place to ensure that the officiating crews come from conferences other than those in the CFP final four teams. The criteria for the final four teams also must rely on something other than a few guys in a smoky room.

The egregious nonsense that has taken place needs to be made explicit now, before the CFP takes place. It needs to be said "out loud" not behind closed doors. This crap must stop now.
It took Woody and Bo getting together and throwing a collective Big Ten shit fit to get the Rose Bowl to stop hiring Pac 8 officials.

Two years in a row this has been the case.

And the year before, an ACC crew worked the Georgia semifinal, and ESPN had to pick another conference to work the Clemson/Bama semifinal.

This system is blatantly rigged, at multiple levels, to benefit the SEC and ACC. They are each guaranteed at least 1 playoff team every year, while also getting biased officiating in their playoff game.
