#15 Oral Roberts vs #2 tOSU, Fri 3 ET on CBS

This. Fans tend to overreact to losses in general, especially ones like these. Dook has lost to #14 Mercer and #15 Lehigh. There's the above historic loss by a team that won it all the next season.

Holtmann's teams are typically quite good overall. There will be stretches where they look unbeatable. There will be stretches where they are bad. But overall, I still think he's a good coach. Will he ever get him to the heights Matta did? I don't know. Matta had some great years in a very different CBB landscape. tOSU is not a blue blood basketball program, we are not going to be in the mix for NCs and Final Fours every year or every other year. It's gonna take a confluence of circumstances for that to happen.

Next year will be big for Holtmann. He's been a solid coach thus far, but today is a scar. Theoretically, he should have a good team back next year. Need a good 25+ win team and a good postseason run. Another March belly flop like today, or subpar season and I'll start thinking about who could be the next guy.

Fair enough. Holtman showed today he is not a long term answer, though. The team’s lack of focus and discipline is on him.

Maybe. But I'm not gonna write him off just yet. He's shown the ability to get this team playing at a very high level. Just needs to figure out the consistency part. One month ago he was one of the favorites for national coach of the year. Next season will tell me a lot. Kinda of a put up or shut up year in my mind.

Yep. I knew the Bucks were in trouble when they didn't blow it open when ORU went ice cold. Just kept settling for jumper/brick after jumper/brick instead of attacking them inside or slashing to the rim. I still though they'd pull it out at that point, but figured it'd be too close for comfort. I was pretty sure we were sunk by about 6 minutes into the 2nd half when they just couldn't pull away, or even get a lead for that matter. Such a frustrating game.

No surprise that they didn't finish a team off when they had the chance. It just came earlier in the game than usual. I wasn't expecting a Final Four, but I wasn't expecting this either.

Nor was I. As I said above, this team was a very, very weak #2 seed given their play over the last month. I didn't think they'd lay a turd like this, but I'm not sure I was expecting them to get that far. UF next game would have been a dreadful matchup, especially if Kyle Young couldn't play.

But that's the bugger with these Holtmann teams; they have the ability to get hot and go on these crazy runs. But, flipside, they're also very capable of pissing down their leg like today. :pissed:

After this performance we deserve all of the criticism coming our way.

This team got full of itself after last weekend. Heard how great they were and thought they could just show up today and ORU would roll over.
having seen variations of this many times, I'm calling shenanigans on that. They are who we thought they were.

What was remarkable about the b1g tourney was their ability to mold the two extremes into a bizarre hybrid.
Can't argue with any of that. I guess I just saw a lot more potential in that team.
Potential gets you fired.

Tony Bennett showed the same when #1 overall seed Virginia lost to 16 seed UMBC by 20 points. Good thing UVa didn't overreact. The next year they cut down the nets.

No, that doesn't mean I'm predicting an OSU NC next year. It means college kids sometimes act like college kids, overconfident and overlooking an opponent. Even the best coaches can't overcome it, sometimes. Coach K and Izzo have both lost 2 vs 15 games. Coach K also lost a 3 vs 14 game. Obviously, he can't coach. :roll1:

Lots of things led to this failure so I won't even start. I will just say I feel really bad for these players. Just a tough way to end such a positive season. They were frustrating but fun to watch. Now...I heard somewhere that spring football is alive? ....

Going on record, I did not even attempt to watch this game. I did not even know they were playing today until I got an ESPN notification that the game was over.

This was not on me. I would have been happy to accept my responsibility as team jinx had I watched... or even known the game was today. But I didn’t. So I won’t.

All I wish for next years successful bball season and every one after that is for all the fair weather fans who root for the team when they are doing well and complain and scream for Holtmann's head on nights like tonight to just crawl in their little cubby holes and stay I'm there and don't come back out next season when coach has an even better and more experienced team

This is a particularly difficult year for a program that has the bench depth of an Ohio State. Without Kyle, they were not a top 10 team. I think they burnt everything without him and there were no reserves in the tank.
