#15 Oral Roberts vs #2 tOSU, Fri 3 ET on CBS

I'm actually kinda over it already. It'd be harder to take if I felt like we got jobbed, but the Bucks didn't show up today.

Overconfident, complacent, just didn't bring the intensity we saw last weekend. When it was close late the pressure collapsed on them.

Oral Roberts deserved to win the game.
I kinda felt it coming when we lollygagged through their cold streak early on. Something just felt...off...from the get go.

Virginia got bitch slapped by a 16 seed and won a title the next year. Up to Holtmann and co to get these guys to channel this into positive fuel for next season. I have faith they can do that.
We’ll see if this motivates them. Sucks because, quite frankly, I wasn’t expecting this team to be this good. Prior to today I thought it was easily the best of the Holtmann era up to this point.

This. Fans tend to overreact to losses in general, especially ones like these. Dook has lost to #14 Mercer and #15 Lehigh. There's the above historic loss by a team that won it all the next season.

Holtmann's teams are typically quite good overall. There will be stretches where they look unbeatable. There will be stretches where they are bad. But overall, I still think he's a good coach. Will he ever get him to the heights Matta did? I don't know. Matta had some great years in a very different CBB landscape. tOSU is not a blue blood basketball program, we are not going to be in the mix for NCs and Final Fours every year or every other year. It's gonna take a confluence of circumstances for that to happen.

Next year will be big for Holtmann. He's been a solid coach thus far, but today is a scar. Theoretically, he should have a good team back next year. Need a good 25+ win team and a good postseason run. Another March belly flop like today, or subpar season and I'll start thinking about who could be the next guy.

As an alumnus and fan of UVA as well, I can tell you that loss was much, much, much worse. UVA was the #1 overall seed, and UMBC did not have the lofty offensive stats and players that this Oral Roberts team does. And, that UVA game was a blowout loss, not a defeat snatched from the jaws of victory like today's OSU game.

Yeah. CBB is full of games like today. You obviously don't want to be on that list, but it has happened a bunch, including to some really elite teams/programs.

I don't have time to go back and look, but there's lots worse than this. Like...lots.

I don't know about "lots" since today's 2 v 15 loss rarely happens, but the undefeated defending champions losing the title game in 1961 stung.

The Bucks were ranked #1 the entire season before losing to the team now known as the Juggalos.

One thing I’d like to see addressed is the lack of athleticism on the team because it really felt like this OSU team was the least athletic team on the court in 75% of their games this year. They get taken off the dribble so easily and there isn’t a player that can blow by their man at will. Conversely this is probably the best jump shooting team I’ve seen since probably the 2011 squad and I feel like that saved them most nights.

To me we just never have a true shooting threat. Haven't really since Diebler or Russell.

Well, I missed the game live. Wow. Just wow. What a fcuk up! Well, they ended up better than I thought on the season and I take back my anger at whoever that ESPiN expert was that called this.

If they shot their season avg at the stripe (76.3%) they would have made 5 more points (rounding down), enough to win
If they shot their season avg of 3s (36.5%), they would have scored 9 more points (rounded down), enough to win
If they turned it over at their season average (11), they probably would have won.

But all three below average? An overtime loss.

True but taken as a whole I haven’t seen a team consistently knock down shots as well as this one since the aforementioned 2011 squad. D Russ and about a month of Marc Loving were the only players who had an offensive game worth a damn on that squad.

They picked a horrible time to go ice cold from 3.
