'12 PA RB Rushel Shell (Pitt Signee; Transfer to West Virginia)

best of luck to him. Pitt has had some solid RB's lately, maybe he sees himself as the next one.

Solid may be an understatement. LeSean McCoy to Dion Lewis to Ray Graham is extremely impressive. Btw, I see that he's playing on ESPNU tonight at 6 EST against a great Central Valley team that features 5 star 2013 WR Robert Foster. Will be interesting to see the two best players in the WPIAL playing.

Played his last high school game today and ran for 292 yards against Franklin Regional, who just happened to be undefeated and No. 2 in AAA. Franklin Regional also had the top defense in AAA giving up just 6.0 ppg. Shell's team lost 24-21 but Shell became the top rusher in PA history with over 9,000 yards. Last week he broke Billy Sims' national record of 38 straight 100 yard games. What a player.

Everybody seemed to think Shell wouldn't break that record. As usual, Shell proved people wrong. Great career. Pitt got a "steal".

Pitt most definitely got a steal. Shell is easily one of the top prep backs and college prospects in the country.

BUT, for some strange reason, it seems like every team stayed away from the kid.

His recruitment makes no sense to me. For as good as I know he is, that kid should have had the entire nation banging down his door.

Something must be up there.

He had offers from not only us, but also the likes of Penn State, Oregon, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. I don't know where you heard that others were staying away from him. Alabama was his second choice and Oregon was his third choice so schools weren't backing off either.

That's misleading. Most of those offers were not commutable. I don't know the backstory here either so I can't say anything other than that.

While Ohio State has a chance to land Cox, Meyer and his staff unsuccessfully tried to make inroads with another WPIAL star who already has made a college decision. Hopewell running back Rushel Shell committed to Pitt in October. Shell said an Ohio State assistant coach had been trying to get in touch with him, but Shell never talked to the coach.

Shell said he let Hopewell coach Dave Vestal and athletic director Don Short relay a message to the Ohio State staff that Shell had no interest in the Buckeyes, even with Meyer.

I knew Meyer would try and get in on Shell, but I think Shell's made the best decision for his personal life (child) and also career. Pitt has been an absolute factory for runningbacks going to the league recently. He's certainly going to be featured there.

I've been watching his recruitment since he was a freshman, can't believe it's already time for him to sign. Best of luck to him.

I know the ship has sailed here, but I wonder if the coaching change at Pitt will affect here Shell goes.
