ESPN - Arizona now a player for Neal

1/18

Just when it looked like Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral athlete Davonte Neal would be leaving the state to play his college football without giving the in-state schools much of a look, he canceled his final official visit to Miami and replaced it with Arizona.

Neal, ranked No. 29 in the ESPNU 150, already has visited Notre Dame and Ohio State and will head to Arkansas this weekend. A trip to North Carolina is set up for (Jan. 27), and Neal then will take a little break before going on his final official visit.

?We had a home visit with Arizona Wednesday afternoon and it went very well,? Neal?s father Luke said. ?Rich Rod [Rodriguez], Robert Anae and Tony Dews all came together and were really blown away. Robert and I coached together at Rexburg (Idaho) Ricks junior college back in the early 90s and we?ve been close ever since.

Notice the lack of outrage that our former coach who was recruiting Neal (Taver) is continuing to recruit him at his current school. Take notes, ND fans.

Urghh!!!!!! This ghost of seasons past, Richrod, is trying to mess with THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, again. This is outrageous! I take this one personally now.

So Richrod is presumably saing "be in our spread offense, be a rock star", just
like Urban would presumably be saying. But Urban has better credentials.

Davonte Neal is now a 5-star in the latest #ESPNU150 rankings. He officially visited #OhioState last weekend. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/espnu150/sort/rank/class/2012

Rich Rod has to be selling him on the amount of touches he would see in his offense.

Barely, just by a nose. I'd like to think Mr. Neal is smart enough to know this. I'd say the appeal of being close to home and working with his former coach is a bigger draw than RR. He probably hurts the process. And that's not being biased.

RR has mastered the "desperate" coach role . His recruitment of TP was proof enough..

Hoping Urban's stats, history of coaching similar caliber athletes, and the idea of playing in front of 105,000 + will win out. One would think Neal would see immediate playing time.

I wanna play.

"You wanna be shellacked every year by USC or win a national championship?" :osu:

I still think Neal can be a tremendous addition to the offensive side of the ball for Meyer. I hope he is very happy with his decision wherever he ends up.
