That update sounds REALLY good... We would be extremely lucky to land James. It would be a crown jewel to a potentially top 3 recruiting class.
If Wad45 and The Bank think our chances aren't high, then I'd defer to them. But is always is fascinating to read/hear what recruits say about various coaches. James makes it clear how comfortable he is with JT and how he respects him...going as far as saying he was most comfortable with JT. Yet somehow, I suspect he'll end up elsewhere. It should be fun to watch how this plays out.

This is recruiting. Things can change day to day. Vaughters could take a family trip to Ohio and have a great time for a weekend just hanging out with his family, and decide he really wants to play near them. He could stumble across a rerun of the Rose Bowl, and just get the itch to play in games like that.

Maybe the Harbaugh rumors to Michigan or the NFL kick up sometime in September or October. As you see in his quotes, he points out that he knows JT will be at OSU for his career. Obviously, that seems important to him.

You just never know with these kids. I think it would be foolish to write Vaughters off as Stanford bound. There is a lot of buzz in favor of both Ohio State and Stanford.

Nobody is writing anyone off...just acknowledging what the insiders have said. My point, in case you missed it, was how interesting the whole recruiting dynamic is. This wouldn't be the first guy who really liked JT but went elsewhere...it happens all the time for every school.

...and I'm sure the staff hasn't written him off either, regardless of what is posted here...

Have helmet, will travel for elite prospect James Vaughters

Phil Skinner, AJC
James Vaughters, Tucker high school linebacker and top city of Atlanta recruiting prospect, has had 35-40 offers. He narrowed that group down to five on Wednesday.

As a college football recruit, James Vaughters is a perfect storm.

He's a large kid, at 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, and exceptionally strong. He's an honors student at Tucker High with a 4.0 GPA and an Ivy League-caliber SAT score. He lives in a big-market metro area with lots of media outlets. And he was reared by parents who have trained him, educated him and gotten him in front of opportunity.

That, and Vaughters can actually play a little ball, too.

He is a rising senior entering his third season as two-way starter at Tucker, a perennial powerhouse of a program that he helped guide to a state championship as a sophomore.

Put it together, and Vaughters is a coast-to-coast national prospect. He arguably is the top recruit in Atlanta and one of the top few in the state.

"I'm not sure if he's the biggest prospect we've ever had, because we've had Thomas Brown and Patrick Pass and some others that were pretty much national recruits," Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said this week.

"But James is more of a product of the Internet Age. The Internet has a lot to do with the explosion of recruiting. Nowadays you can put some video up on YouTube in three or four minutes, and it's everywhere in no time. And James just plays in such a way that it kind of jumps out at you on film.

"Throw in his attributes of being a 4.0 student, being a good kid from a good family, height, weight, athleticism, and he's about as close to a can't-miss prospect as you'll ever get."

Have to disagree with BK on this one. Our info that we've had for some time, which was confirmed by The Bank yesterday, says that OSU fans shouldn't get their hopes up...

Quoting this just as a reminder.....
