'10 PA DB Cullen Christian (TTUN signee; transfer to Pitt; transfer to WVU)

Another DB Considers OSU Offer | Ohio State Buckeyes College Football Recruiting, OSU Big Ten Football, OSU Basketball – Bucknuts.com

Posted by Bill Kurelic on Oct 02, 2009 at 11:25 am

Pittsburgh (Pa.) Penn Hills standout Cullen Christian is the latest defensive back to land a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes.

"Luke Fickell called me and told me," Christian said. "I'll visit (Ohio State)."

The 6-foot-1 and 185-pound Christian attended the Ohio State-USC game in the Horseshoe. He told Bucknuts.com he was very impressed and it was the type of atmosphere he would like to play in. At that time the Bucks had not offered.

Christian has close to two dozen scholarship offers.

In addition to Ohio State, Christian is taking a long look at Michigan, UCLA and West Virginia.

JC Shurburtt: With Jimbo Fisher in place as the coach-in-waiting at Florida State, Bobby Bowden's uncertain future won't have a big effect on recruiting - ESPN

Four-star cornerback Cullen Christian (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills) is just less than two months away from making a final decision and has a top two.

"I am going to decide Nov. 24 during a press conference at my high school," Christian said. "Right now, my top two schools are Michigan and West Virginia. Every school has a shot, though, and things could change when I take my official visits."

UCLA and West Virginia get official visits next month with Michigan and Ohio State to follow. Michigan, Ohio State, West Virginia, Pitt and Maryland are some of the schools he has visited unofficially.

There are a variety of reasons Michigan is in the lead.

"They were just my favorite team growing up as a kid," Christian said. "They gave me my first offer. They recruit me the hardest, and I just love Michigan."

West Virginia alumnus David Lockwood, the school's cornerbacks coach, is a big reason the Mountaineers are strong. Ohio State just offered last week, and Christian likes the fact that UCLA has come across the country to recruit him.

The hometown Panthers can't be ruled out, either.

"I just like the fact that it has a hometown feel," he said.

Christian is the nation's No. 18-rated cornerback prospect by Scouts Inc.

College Football Recruiting On the Trail 2010 - ESPN
Four-star cornerback Cullen Christian orders top five
Cullen Christian (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills) added Ohio State to his top group of Pittsburgh, UCLA, Michigan and West Virginia after the Buckeyes extended an offer. Now Christian has ranked his top five, ESPN affiliate Web site EerSports.com reports.

"In order, I would say, Michigan, West Virginia, UCLA, Ohio State and Pitt," he said.

Christian is expected to announce his decision Nov. 24th.

IIRC, Brandon Saine was a m*ch*g*n fan.

Brandon was also from Ohio though, and if I am remembering things correctly here, Ohio State was the very first school to offer Brandon and they built up a nice little lead on Michigan as Lloyd Carr was pretty slow out of the gate to extend the offer and really recruit Saine hard that year.

I think we (Michigan fan here) should wind up with Cullen, but there is some cause for concern. If he really loves Michigan so much, then why has he yet to pull the trigger? I am always cautious of kids proclaiming to love a school but not willing to pull the trigger.

There are also rumblings that Michigan's recruiting co-ordinator of the past 4 years, Chris Singletary, has really dropped the ball on not just CC, but on pretty much the entire class. Rumor mill is that he might be on his way out after the season.

Back to Cullen though. I believe he's taking an official to UCLA this weekend, and well I wouldn't put anything past "Slick" Rick Neuheisel.

I think y'all will be fine without CC anyways, as the implosion of the FSU program means that LaMarcus Joyner is in all likelyhood a Buckeye.

mbama1, very informative first post. You'll find outsider fans (even Michigan ones) are welcome here provided their posts are as objective as yours was.

Thanks!

Oh, by the way, what makes me sick as a Michigan fan and what I also forgot to mention that along with Lamarcus Joyner (who is simply incredible, a Top 10 player in America, was blown away with him on that game that was televised on ESPNU a few weeks back) you all are also gonna get Christian Bryant (who is vastly underrated by the "gurus" and is easily the top DB prospect in Ohio) and LaTwan Anderson (who is kinda overrated by the "gurus", still a great raw athletic talent nonetheless).....oh and you guys might also get Josh Shaw out of California. :(

I know you guys will get the first 3, those are locks, just hoping that maybe Florida or USC can steal Shaw away from you. Do you guys really need all 4 of them? LOL.

I love your optimism but now that offers are out to all 4 of them, I think once 2 of them committ, they recruit the other 2 less the rest of the way. The only scenario they get all 4 is if LJ waits til the last hour (which he may do), the other 3 have committed already and he still feels that OSU is a better place for him than FSU. I think there will always be a spot for LJ left in this class no matter what the #'s and DB situation is. He's a Buckeye if he wants to be. But one of the other 3 might not get the love/attention they were getting before the others committed.

Once the pieces start falling into place, kids are going to go where they can play early even if they really like a school. These days, top 100 prospects don't want to sit for 2 years before getting any time. 4 more Db's is a lot when this class only has about 5-6 spots to give. Shaw is wavering a bit and we were late to the party on Anderson. I think one of those 2 is the odd man out and we end up with 3 of the 4. Hoping for all 4 b/c I think each brings a little something different to the table. Oh, and Cullen would be the 5th, but I don't think Cullen is coming here. Again, too late to the party imo.

Go Bucks. We need a bounce back game against Minny.

Rivals $$$ from Mike Farrell, dated 10/21/09

Cullen just returned from his first official to UCLA.

Says he has a top 3 in no order of WVU, UCLA, and Michigan.

He's taking an official to WVU this weekend, and this his three remaining officials will be to Pitt, Ohio State, and Michigan - in that order, and he will announce his decision 3 days after his Michigan official.

Still a little nervous, but I think odds are pointing towards Michigan, and Mike Farrell really isn't one to write articles pertaining to Michigan in such a positive light. He usually seems to go out of his way to take a small little jab at Michigan in some way.
