2000 career points and 4th district title in 5 years for Turson and the Big Red

Night of milestones for Plymouth, Turson

Plymouth earned its fourth boys basketball district championship in five years, but its first ever in Division III with a 50-37 victory over Richland County foe Ontario on Saturday night.
In the game, All-Ohio senior guard Brook Turson went over 2,000 points for his career to make the night extra special.
But that was only part of the story for the fourth-ranked Big Red Vikings (23-0).

Plymouth boys overcome BG jinx
Plymouth, which advanced to the Division IV Bowling Green regional the past two years only to get drummed out in the semifinals, got off the schnide Wednesday night with an edge-of-your-seat, 42-37 victory over Archbold in the Division III regional semifinals at Anderson Arena.

Plymouth grabbed the lead for good on a Turson layup with 3:15 remaining. Turson, who faced double and triple teams all night, scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
"It was what I've seen, just basically denial. One guy on me at all times face-guarding," Plymouth's All-Ohioan said of Archbold's defensive philosophy. "I expected to be face-guarded all night.

An overtime bummer

Late bounces go against Plymouth in regional final

BOWLING GREEN -- The cheers of the Lima Central Catholic fans echoed through Anderson Arena when Plymouth coach Brad Turson entered the interview room Saturday night.

The Big Red had just suffered an agonizing 56-54 overtime loss in the Division III regional title game and as the Thunderbirds cut down the nets, Turson dutifully answered everything asked of him even as the sting of the loss began to settle in.
Plymouth (24-1) had played well enough to win. A bounce here or there and the Big Red would have been making plans for next week's Division III Final Four.
But Turson wasn't the least bit interested in discussing what could have been.
"I don't want to talk about what-ifs or anything like that. I just want to talk about how proud I am of these players and the effort they gave me," said Turson, flanked by son and All-Ohio point guard Brook and fellow senior Brandon McCalley. "We talked about every possession for 32 minutes. They gave us every possession for 36 minutes."

Turson led the Big Red with a game-high 29 points and 12 rebounds. McCalley added 11 points and seven boards despite suffering a sprained ankle early in the third quarter.

Turson made the most of the big stage

"He makes me a good coach," Plymouth coach Brad Turson said. "I gave him some freedom to call some sets he thought would work because he knows a little better than I do what's going on out there."

The 6-3 senior point guard .......The multi-time All-Ohioan ended the night with 29 points, 12 rebounds and five steals, just three days after a 23-point, eight-rebound performance against Archbold in a 42-37 semifinal victory.

It was enough to get LCC's legendary coach Bob Seggerson to wax poetic about the performance against the Thunderbirds.
"I put my arm around (Turson) and I said we haven't played anybody better than you this year," Seggerson said.
Considering he's seen Lima Senior's Anton Hutchins, a first-team All-Northwest District performer in Division I, as well as Northwest District Player of the Year and Ohio State-bound Aaron Craft of Liberty-Benton, Seggerson's compliment carried some weight.
"I tell you Robert Morris is getting something," Seggerson said. "That kid can play. We wore him out. We had four different guys guarding him throughout the game, and I'm surprised he could lift the ball at the end of the game, let alone shoot it. Our job was to wear him down and he still found ways to score.
"He's a terrific player and he deserves every accolade that he's got coming."

"It's great to have a player like Brook. I've been blessed for four years, and he's my son, and that's even better," coach Turson said. "He's a winner, and he's going to the next level to do some things and show some people and it's going to be fun to watch."
It was a painful loss for the Big Red, but it was certainly a fun performance to watch on such a large stage.

On a personal note about Brook Turson

Through what i've seen of Brook Turson, i'll say it is truly a shame, with all of the Division 1 University's and Colleges in Ohio, not withstanding Ohio State, that Brook's only offers were from OOS schools. What a shame, Kent Stat, Ohio, Akron, Toledo, Miami-Oh, Cleveland State, Cincy, Xavier, and Ohio State, all missed. OSU-bound Aaron Craft gets held to 5-22 shooting against LCC as Liberty Benton got blown out in their district semi game. Brook comes out and lays 29 on them(with less talent surrounding him) in a very impressive performance, leaving their coach to tell him that he was the best player they have played against all year. Pretty high accolades, and can't say I disagree. Ohio colleges/Universities really missed on this one.

Plymouth's Turson, Cardington's Thomas make all-Ohio

Plymouth's Brook Turson and Cardington's Riley Thomas were AAU teammates in middle school.
They were reunited again Tuesday when the Division III and Division IV All-Ohio teams were released.
Both Turson and Thomas, who will suit up together in next week's News Journal All-Star Classic, were second-team picks in Division III. They headline a list of five area players recognized in Division III.

Turson, who has signed with Division I Robert Morris, led Plymouth to the first unbeaten season in school history. The Big Red advanced to the regional for the third straight year before falling to Lima Central Catholic in overtime in the regional championship game, finishing the season 24-1. The 6-3 point guard averaged 25.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.7 steals a game. He became just the fourth area player to top 2,000 points for his career.

Plymouth's Brandon McCalley .... were honorable mention selections. McCalley was one of only three players in north central Ohio to average a double-double (14.8 points and 10.1 rebounds).

Coach Turson ran down Brooks acheivements in his career last night. For his career I think he was 38th in all-time points, 29th in all-time assists, 2nd in career FT made, and like top 30 I think in career FG % (>53%)(these are across all divisions). Had 2,063 points, 925 rebounds, 517 assists, 272 steals and 102 blocks. The fact that he wasn't 1st team all-Ohio is a complete joke and a total lack of respect for what he has done for basketball in Plymouth and the Mid Ohio area. I hope Brook uses these factors as motivation to get even better, and make other teams pay at the next level.
I hope every time Brook plays a team from Ohio, in the next four years, he averages a 30 point triple double.

I went to Lima Central Catholic...wow, I feel far from home seeing as how I just found out right now about the championship. Turson looks like a legit prospect. Don't want to hijack the thread...he seems a solid player to say the least.

Based on your age, you must know Stolly and Rocky?
