did anyone get the call of paul keels for the game winner?

It went something like this:

"Craft pulls up behind the arc AOEUIGHPAEUGHAERGHLAEUIGHRAELIUGHLAUEIGHLAEIRGHLIAUERGHLAEIUGH!"

He made loud noises and it was awesome because I knew exactly what happened.

Just got to this thread after a very long day...

After an all-time great ending, I was disappointed to see people spending the better part of the last 8-10 pages being sensitive about Charles Barkley instead of celebrating and talking about guys like Aaron Craft and LaQuinton Ross.

What a bigtime shot from Craft. After so much hand-wringing early in the year about him taking late shots (and missing them) I'm glad that he recognized what Iowa State was doing and stepped up as the new first option on the play.

To make a tournament run, you need somebody extra to take their game to the next level. It looks like Ross has taken that step. If he can continue to contribute the way he did today, this team can play with anybody.

Finally, who cares what Barkley or anybody else thinks? I don't need him to like Ohio State for me to enjoy the run they're on, and it's not like this is football where access to championships is determined by a few opinions in the mainstream media echo chamber. Every time Ohio State wins, they move closer to glory - no matter what certain people think of them. That's the beauty of the tournament - analyst opinions are just as worthless as yours and mine.

Getting worked up about what the Mark May's/Charles Barkley's of the sports world say during halftime/postgame shows is like getting worked up about things said in an episode of Pipers Pit.

These people get paid to yank your chain. Why let them?

I disgree on this one. The craft call was a 50/50 bang bang play. But aDeshaun was set and ready for a while. He turned his body instintually from conthe contact but don;'t think that should change the call.

That actually does change the call. The shoulders have to be square for it to be a charge. If you are turned, it is a blocking foul. DeShaun actually picked up a blocking foul for having his shoulders turned in the last few games, but I don't remember which.

What might be interesting is if the same Aaron Craft play (charge/block) happened to someone on Florida Gulf Coast or La Salle late in the game.

I think a lot of the angst has to do with Ohio State (or the Big Ten) being involved.

Somebody was suggesting make-up calls against OSU in the future. That's probably not going to happen (knock on wood).

I think the tech was legit. The refs were poor throughout though.

How could you know that without knowing what was said?

What was ridiculous is after Deshaun missed a three from right in front of the Iowa St. Bench, their whole team was in his ear. I'm sure that was the acceptable taunting tho.

The shoulders do not have to be square for a charge to be called. They have to be square in order to establish legal guarding position. Once established, they do not have to continue to be square.

From the NCAA rule book:

Art. 6. To maintain a legal guarding position after the initial position has been attained, the guard:
a. Is not required to continue having the torso face the opponent;
g. May turn or duck to absorb shock when contact by the dribbler is imminent. In such a case, the dribbler shall not be absolved from the responsibility of contact.

Sure, but if you don't allow yourself to get fired up by Rowdy Roddy's trash-talking of Ricky the Dragon Steamboat, then you're depriving yourself of the full entertainment value of The Pit. At least, if you're 13.

Looked to me that Scott spiked the ball in the direction of the dude on the floor and cocked his arms/shoulders in what is the universal body language sign of 'come at me, bro.' Shannon could've said, "I like puppy dogs," for all I know, but he was getting t'ed up the moment he tossed the ball at another player.

I cringed the moment he did it.
