'10 IL PG/SG Anthony Johnson (Purdue Verbal)

Scout $

Johnson is planning a trip to campus in August, his first visit to Ohio State. Johnson wouldn't say whether he has a Buckeye offer or not but he did say that Ohio State was one of the top schools he's considering.

I've heard Johnson is much more of a SG than he is a PG.

This begs the question; do we take Johnson and Sibert in addition to Wright, or do we take a first come first serve approach, or do we plan on one of them being able to play pg? Is this all for naught if we pick up an '09 PG?

He can play either with effectiveness...He will stick at PG no problem...Can also play SG if we have another PG on the roster...

As crazy40 said, he reportedly can play either with aplomb.

I think they are looking at him as a PG and Sibert and Wright as wings. So there would be room for all 3! I strongly hope that happens! You can never have too many good Gs or Cs, IMO. One or two can always adjust to a F spot.

I HIGHLY DOUBT that an 09 PG will be taken. For one thing NONE have been recruited or offered. I guess Boynton was looked at early ( he is a combo ) and Crosgile and "Tay" Jones may have been looked at but I don't think any serious interest has been given.

We only have 1-2 ships and are in DIRE NEED of an insider ( only have Lauderdale, Kecman, and Madsen returning for 09-10 ). And Kecman hasn't played a second at this level and I have no faith in KM ever contributing. All of the ship offers in the 09 class have gone to 5s, 4s, and wings. We seem to have struck out on all the wings and most of the others as well.

But I personally believe they'd offer Roberto Nelson over a PG at this point. There is mutual interest with him.

It was a fair question and still may have some merit. If Johnson is looked at primarily as a 2G, then will they really sign THREE wings in that 10 class ( Wright already on board and Sibert now offered )? If that were the case they may very well only take one of the two ( Johnson OR Sibert ) but not both.

As I said, I think they are looking at Johnson more as PG, but that is just my guess!

See where they have him listed as a SG:huh: and not a PG. I thought that he was better at the point that the off guard but I know he can play both.

They do that when a kid can score...They don't pay attention to the rest of the game...It really doesn't matter where they list him, The staff is recruiting him as a pg...

Any idea if Johnson considers himself a PG or SG? At his height, I assume if he wants to make it to the league he'll focus on becoming a PG. Not many 6'3" SG make it, let alone flourish in the league. I'm still kind of surprised at how high E. Gordon went in the draft given his lack of height & ball-handling skills.

He'll definitely have to transition to PG imo, not because of his height, but because of his build. I just don't think he'll ever be strong enough to play 2G in the league. Eric Gordon was a thick, strong 200+ pounds before he entered college. Johnson looks like he could eat two extra large pizzas and still weigh 165 lbs. soaking wet.

He could maybe be a better scoring Jamar Butler. Not exactly a pure point, but can get by.
