Anthony Johnson to Purdue

Anthony Johnson of Chicago was believed to be Ohio State?s top 2010 priority to replace guard Trae Golden after Golden rescinded his commitment in July. Then coaches saw Lenzelle Smith of Zion, Ill., later in the month. Each visited campus in August. Smith committed to the Buckeyes two weeks ago.
When contacted before his visit, Johnson said he could make a commitment while in Columbus. When contacted after returning home, he said he was ?being patient? and in no hurry to decide.
Did Ohio State press both to make a commitment? Two offers for one scholarship, first taker wins?
?I?m not sure on that,? Smith said after he announced his commitment Sept. 22. ?I just know I felt it was the right time for me to commit. I?m not sure how they were doing A.J.?s recruitment.?
Johnson never responded to text inquiries from The Dispatch.
Smith said he and Johnson are friends and, after both received offers from Ohio State, initially talked about playing together there. Slim chance of that now. Nothing is binding until national letters of intent are signed 13 months from now, but Johnson committed to Purdue today.

Boilers get basketball commitment

Anthony Johnson, ranked among the top 50 high school juniors in the nation, has orally committed to the Purdue basketball program.
The 6-3 shooting guard from Whitney Young High School in Chicago is ranked No. 49 by Rivals and No. 32 by Scout, two of the nation's top recruiting services.
"There are good scorers, and then there are great scorers. Johnson is very much the latter," Rivals.com's Justin Young wrote in July after Johnson's performance in the Peach Jam in South Carolina.
Johnson was being recruited by Ohio State, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois and others.
