Listing Illinois (offer), Notre Dame (offer), Ohio State, Kentucky, Marquette, Purdue and UCLA.

Scout.com update 1/28/08

Johnson likes Illinois but is concerned by their depth at the guard position. Mentions UCLA and Notre Dame. Also is thinking about visiting Ohio State.

Wisconsin commitment Vander Blue and uncommitted Anthony Johnson make up a terrific combo for the Illinois Warriors. In a morning game, Johnson put up 15 points, all coming in the first half, while Blue put in 14, the majority of them coming in the second half.

Blue is a well built and athletic guard who hits the boards with a vengeance and has a feel for making plays off the dribble. Johnson is a slick ball handler and scorer but doesn't have the physique and athleticism of Blue.

On the recruiting front, Johnson is getting heavy interest from Ohio State and has an offer from Purdue.

I can't understand why they are looking at a PG for 10 when they have Golden. I guess they can probably move him to sg but then what did they do with Cameron Wright. If we are going to use another scholarship in 10, assuming that they have one, I would rather see them go big then small.

Think there is a solid shot at going with 6 in 10' if we go with 1 in 09'...

Right now I think that Johnson, Hairston are the OOStaters and Payne and Sibert at the instate guys we are looking at...

I would offer all 4 of them and take the first big and first guard to committ...

When you think about it...Thomas and Golden are 1 or 2 year guys probably, so to have guys like Sibert/Johnson with Wright is great for a program trying to get some continuity...

Kinda like the situation would of been if we would of pushed for Armond Bassett if we knew Conley would of been 1 and done...

I know that you're not going to like this but I have heard some very very good things about Taylor. I know you do not like him right now because he is only 5'8" if that but you have to remember he has a few years to grow a 3"-4". I am not saying do not take Sibert if he wants to come here but I think Taylor would be a very good backup plan versus Anthony Johnson.

Maybe you should start a cbf40 09-11 recruiting basketball thread:biggrin:

Putting thoughts out there I didn't say...Never said anything about not liking Taylor, just that he is not a an offer canidate right now due to his height...needs another solid 3-4 inches, and it is very possible that he grows, but right now he isn't going to get offered...

Yeah they could also take Sibert/Johnson in 10 and Taylor in 11'...

Johnson has a strong Jamboree..........Johnson was one of the top performers at the event. Johnson will be visiting Marquette today and has frequent contact with Texas, Purdue, Iowa State, LSU, Ohio State and Kentucky. Expresses high interest in Ohio State and wants to visit soon.

Dispatch

But as the summer recruiting period begins Sunday, Matta?s focus for a future point guard seems to have switched to Anthony Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound Chicagoan who had a strong spring with the Illinois Warriors AAU team.
This doesn't figure to be the whirlwind romance like Golden's, though. Johnson has not begun to narrow a list of schools that also includes Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Marquette, Notre Dame, Purdue and UCLA.
