APOSTROPHES!!!!!! Not needed! :smash::smash:

Anyways, it will be interesting if you guys actually get a field stretching TE. That's not usually your TEs are, but I'm sure Tressel will find a way to make them awesome. :(

Yeah, haven't had a TE like that in a while. I would be happy to have either Sims or Hageman. And who doesnt JT turn into an awesome player? :tongue2:

PATIENT: Sims not rushing future plans
St. Mary's two-sport athlete says basketball is his first love, but he's also keeping football options open.
Tom Markowski / The Detroit News

ORCHARD LAKE -- One would assume a football player would jump at the opportunity to accept a scholarship offer from Southern California, Tennessee, UCLA, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State.

But Dion Sims of Orchard Lake St. Mary's isn't your typical high school football player, and he's not saying yes to any scholarship offer just yet. With his summer crowded with AAU basketball and commitments, the receiver/end had no time for football camps or unofficial visits to prospective colleges.

That's Sims' dilemma. Basketball or football? Once, he pondered playing both in college. Not now. He said it's going to be one or the other. And the winner is?

Basketball ... for now.

"I want to take visits first," Sims said. "I really want to wait until after basketball is over. My heart is more into basketball. I can picture myself doing basketball as a job. I enjoy it more."

George Porritt, who coaches football and basketball at St. Mary's, said one must admire and respect Sims, who is choosing what's right for him and not someone else.

At 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, Sims is considered a can't-miss college football prospect.

His basketball future isn't quite as clear-cut. He's received scholarship offers from Iowa and Penn State but top-level programs like Michigan State have adopted a wait-and-see approach.

Or else keep pursuing Sims. We tend to honor our offers, a la Brian Hartline. I wouldn't mind Hageman either, but to walk away from Sims right now would be a mistake.

I'm certainly not intimating walking away from Dion....JT would never stop recruiting a kid because of an injury. I'm just suggesting that, being that two stud TEs are battling for one spot in Columbus and it's first-come-first-serve anyway, and if all else is equal, it's probably not a bad idea to turn up the heat on the fully healthy kid that just named OSU his leader.

I wasn't so much disagreeing with your idea of pursuing Hageman more heavily, but moreso guarding against writing off Sims. This will at least be something to watch as the recruiting season indeed moves forward, and to be honest, there doesn't appear to be much left to complete OSU's haul for this season. As it goes, as far as I know, we could always take both :tongue2:

An offer is not a contract and no one is obligated to honor an offer (unless there was some consideration). Tough break for Sims, but if his injury scares off our coaches, I can't blame them.

Well, considering he was thinking the basketball route anyways, it looks as if Hageman just may naturally become the main target. I doubt we quit recruiting Sims, but tough break and hopefully he recovers quickly.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt if he will be able to showcase his basketball talents this coming season with his injury. I have never seen him highly ranked in the basketball rankings so maybe while his first love is basketball his better sport might be football. You cannot get much better than a basketball player who can play TE and I have no doubt that JT will honor the offer.
