'09 IL OL Chris Watt (Notre Dame Signee)

If I was Tyron Willingham, I would go to bed every night, and give thanks to God for not turning in Charlie Weis' record at ND.

If I was Tyrone, I'd look at OSU's class and gag at the realization that I have zero verbal commitments this year (just think about how scary a proposition that is).

At any rate, this one in the end surprised me. I knew it'd be a tight battle, but I thought the connection to Goebel would be the trump card. Guess not.

I sensed back last April that this decision would be a FAMILY decision & the ND worship would be a potentially losing battle. What confused me was the things Watt would say yet his actions were occasionally contradictory (This IS NOT his nature) so I do not know...too many cooks in the kitchen???

ND just may be a better fit for what Chris felt was immensly important to him.......don't forget the kin folk factor!! Chris is a great kid & will be a huge asset to the ND OL!!!

IMHO Chris will be an All-American AS WELL AS AN ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN before his ND career is over.

Quality kid that's an athletic and academic AA. High praise...thanks XP.

I think this recent update provides some legs to the rumor that Watt is looking around. If i understand this correctly, isn't it true that our coaches would not re-invest in a committed player to another school, ONLY and only if, the player initiate the contact? I don't have premium info, but, judging by the title of the above listed article, "Buckeyes Stop by Chris Watt's School", it tells me that SOMEHOW, SOME WAY, our coaches are given the impression that Watt's is openning up his recruitment. I have faith in our coaches and their integrity in their position. Personally, I don't believe that Coach Tress would even consider to contact Watt if the interest is not mutual.

However, I don't know why Watt would be quoted saying that he is still very much committed to ND. Perhaps, he does not want to stir up a ripple unless he absolutely has to. Well, all is just speculation.

I hope we get Watt. Our O-line's lack luster performance this year is not by coincidence. Of course, Bollman should get some of the blame, imo, BUT, as someone has pointed out in other threads, all is for naught when we don't have the talents there to execute the game plan. Our O-line recruiting for the past 3-4 years (barring last year) had been slightly above average, IMHO. We did not reel in top talents, talents that compliment TOSU's caliber. Yes, there are ALWAYS going to be some diamonds in the rough (namely: AJ, Malcolm, Chimdi...etc), but they are rare. Very rare. At any rate, we would most DEFINITELY be benefited to have Watt's talent in this class.

I am officially off my soap box.

I'm still not sure of the circumstance under which we did not get him the first time. There were those who thought that he flat out choose ND over OSU, and then there were a couple of elitist mods that suggested something else was at work. Did we cool off on him after Longo had committed? If so, would that be a reason for further optimism?

I would think Weiss staying would be the reason not to sign.

1. 2009 is deliver or die time for CW. Why commit to a school when you could easily have an unknown as coach for your last three years? Particularly at a school which has such a poor track record of finding the right guy.

2. ND' s lackluster performance on the field is not unrelated to their failure to develop and coach recruits.

3. The fan base wants CW gone. You already have students throwing snowballs at your own players. The atmosphere next year will be very negative with many hoping CW fails to assure his departure. Who wants to be part of that?

Isn't this the same fan base that used to come over here and gloat? Didn't they hail Fat Chuck as the savior to ND, who supposed to be this once in a life time offensive genius, who was expected to bring ND back to its glory?

HA.

What an irony!?!?!

It is such a slap in the face for the majority of ND fans (not all): arrogant, irrational and delusional. MAN, it is so awesome!

EDIT: sorry, back to Watt.

For the time being, I'm deleting posts that speculate about possible transfers for current Notre Dame players. It is not unusual to see a few kids leave a program after a coaching change, but it's way too early to start naming names. I will, however, refer everyone to a previous post in this thread:

Chris says numerous schools have called, but he is staying committed to ND and has been assured Coach Weis will return.
