'09 FL LB/S Frankie Telfort (Southern Cal Signee)

ESPN - Te'o, Telfort hold down top spots in 2009 OLB rankings - Football Recruiting

We feel this year's class has a handful of Spence-esque linebackers who will be similarly productive if employed on the weakside, covered up and given the green light to ball hawk the football.

No two might be more alike than Eric Fields (Warner Robins, Ga./Northside) and Frankie Telfort (Miami/Gulliver prep) who round out our top-five 2009 OLBs. Aside from their matching measurables, they share Spence's natural instincts, great range and rare explosiveness tracking down ball-carriers.

Fields can run and hit as good as any outside linebacker in this class. The Clemson pledge takes direct angles to the ball-carrier and might have some of the best short-area burst and acceleration in the class, aside from Telfort. When this Florida native has a clear read to the ball, he looks like a heat-seeking missile or -- as Scouts Inc.'s Bill Conley termed him when viewing him at the Miami Nike camp this past spring -- "a little keg of dynamite."

Elite Scouting Florida Top 100
47)Frankie Telfort-Gulliver-LB-5’10-195- Telfort was a prospect that his name came up on the recruiting radar early last season. He has played mainly as a linebacker in high school. In college he will most likely get moved to the rover position. The one question that needs to be answered is whether or not Telfort can go back into coverage.

By Bill "Bank" Greene...Telfort has narrowed it to down to the following six schools: USC, Ohio State, Tennessee, Florida, Notre Dame, and Stanford.

Telfort could be a "Berry" good pickup for us if we were to land him. LOL, yeah, that was corny.
WOW! Didn't see that one coming. These so-called longshots (see Marlon Brown) aren't looking like that at all lately.

I thought this kid would've decided his college choice by now I'm glad tOSU is still in the running for his services, I hope we really find some room for this kid. He seems like he could help defend against the spread offenses, since Defenses seem to be going towards smaller faster defenders to counter the spread.

I just thought that because there are very few highly rated prospects in this class that haven't committed. It seems like this class has been verballing a lot earlier than classes in the past, that's all.

That's a good observation indeed, but there are some that will wait it out and see some places, and Telfort is one of them...

Telfort May Visit Clemson

By Eric Guimaraes
LB Frankie Telfort (6-0 205) of Miami, FL says there is a possibility that he could take an unofficial visit to Clemson later this year. Telfort had offers from both USC and Clemson. He says the Tigers are still involved with him but the Gamecocks have backed off. His top six are Southern California, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Florida, Stanford, and Ohio State. He has taken unofficial visits to both Tennessee and Florida and came away impressed with Tennessee. "They have a big campus," he said. "The football stadium is huge and really impressive," Telfort added. He has been to Florida many times and knew what to expect. Telfort wants to study pre-med and go to pharmacy school and says that is important in his decision. So far this season, he has 21 tackles, 8 for loss and a sack, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He has also scored a touchdown on offense. Telfort did not name a leader.
