Just an FYI, Brandon has been to Miami several times recently...so that might be an indicator...

45, you are a cruel man!

With one post, you completely revive my hopes for this guy with visions of him being utilized in a myriad of ways...all completely plausible. Then, in the very next post almost immediately after, in one fell swoop you crush those hopes w/these Hurricane sightings. My faint heart cannot sustain these extreme highs and lows.

I don't understand why people are so down on the Buckeyes chances. I see:

-a guy moving his commitment date up after stating forever that he would wait until January while only one of his top 5 is filling up

-the commitment announcement info is being spread by his mentor Brett Goetz, who is a big fan of Tressel (and mentor to Sabino and Howard)

-no real credible info that he is headed elsewhere (at least that I have seen, maybe I'm wrong on this.)

Anyway, I don't have any inside info and I'm not claiming he's definitely coming here, but I don't get why the conventional wisdom is that we have no chance. Things actually look kind of good from where I'm sitting.

Berry is in regardless so to insinuate that McGee might be taking his spot is false. And the idea of two juniors leaving early and/or others leaving the program is not that far fetched. And lastly McGee is not solely being looked at as a DB...he could play any number of positions and could wind up like a Chris Gamble...and that is not something I just throw around, because lots of a kids talk about wanting to play on both sides of the ball but how often does it ever happen? I say that because Brandon is that special of a talent and one that I think you take in this class any way you can and worry about the other spots later.

Wadc, I agree with both of your points to some extent. But the bottom line is, it is not far fetched either than no more than two JRs declare. I'm not too sure about Wilson's redshirt situation but what if he gets 8 sacks this season and gets a borderline grade? Will Tressel bar him from coming back to earn a 1st round grade? These issues have to be looked at carefully to avoid the possibility that we won't be able to honor someone's schollie because of oversigning.

We always seem to have an extra scholly or 2 open up at the end of the year, that go to sleeper type prospects. That may be because we have waited on other prospects only to get burned though, ala '07 with Barksdale, Brent, etc. I would think that if McGee tells the staff he wants in, there is no way we say no imo, as Wad said. Then again, with Vlad no longer having a spot, I think we burned the McGee bridge. Not that McGee wouldn't come here regardless, but I think that had a big part in our early lead. I also think if Berry was verballed by now, it would have helped. Regardless of our chances, I am holding out hope that we land McGee but given the recent situation, I would be surprised.

I didn't read all the msot recent posts in this thread so not sure if it's been mentioned, but this sounds like the "brandon" story all over again from last year (Harris, that is). Don't lose sleep over this one, my bet is that he stays home just like Brandon Harris did. All the optimism is appreciated but a lot of people got me believing the Bucks had a shot @ Brandon last year and he's playing for the "U". I'm not getting suckered into this again. I think Hall and Berry are the only other big names out there OSU has a legit shot @ landing when it's all said and done (which would be a great closing that I would be perfectly happy with)

He's "U" bound. They will have a great tandem at corner for the next few years, between him and B. Harris.

Just what I was thinking. I'm very high on both of them and I think Harris was the top cover corner last year. Adding McGee at corner, Brown at LB, Forston at DT, etc., the Canes are going to be loaded on D. Anyways, it would be nice to see us get another surprise visit with Berry, but I don't see it happening. I don't think this is like Harris, as we got in on McGee early and were called the clear cut leader from his mouth. Only similarities are that he is from Florida, is a very talented CB, and will go to Miami. However, had McGee had decided earlier, I think he would be in this class. Same with Vlad.

Ohio State is almost full overall in 2009 and they are for sure full in the defensive backfield. I thought McGree and Vlad would be Buckeyes but after all the DB commits, I don't think there's room.

You may be right as I am certainly not an insider, but I honestly believe that if McGee called up the coaches and told them he wanted to be a Buckeye, they would find room for him, whether it be at DB, WR or just as an ATH.

One of my points was that it was a little strange that he would move his commitment date way up after saying all along he would wait until the end. Maybe it is just because he was 100% convinced Miami was the place and decided to pull the trigger but I think there is also a possibility that he wanted to get in before OSU filled up. I'm not sure but I guess I am not completely convinced its the "U" for him like everyone else seems to think.

You might be right about the cause for his move-up commit date, but I don't know that I'd read too much in to it. After all, unless he has given a silent verbal or is about to (and I haven't heard any rumors suggesting as much, but I'm no insider either), August 11 may actually be too late this recruiting season. I guess we'll find out on August 11. It is conceivable that by announcing for us on that date he'd be cutting off someone like Ezell, Adams, Sims, or Hageman for the 28th spot, assuming there is one. Still, if we were tops on his list I would think he'd just go ahead and commit given our numbers crunch.

Interesting tidbit from Rivals Radio this AM, Jamie Newberg was on the show and he said he believes Brandon favors Ohio State right now with his decision pending in less than a month. I still tend to believe he goes to Miami, but I just thought thought I'd pass that along.
