'09 FL DB Brandon McGee (Miami-FL Verbal)

I mean he has the characteristics of a cornerback who is a good cover corner but can also do great things when he has the ball in his hands too. Is it just coincidence that most of the examples of a guy like that who pop into my head happen to be great? He can be another Chris Gamble for us.

Just as easy as he can be another Devon Lyons, thats all I'm saying. It's a bit premature to compare a 17 year old to a hall famer and several perennial pro bowlers. He's fast and talented, but we might want to hold off on such lofty comparisons until he plays some actual D1 competition. I would definitely love to see him in Columbus, but I don't want to get my hopes up so high on a true frosh. Especially one that might not see the field for a year or two because we're so loaded at DB.

Are we though? I have heard that Washington may not return for his 5th year and Jenkins will obviously be gone.

That would leave Chekwa, Scott and Howard as the only true corners on the roster... I really think that at least one of these incoming CBs is going to see significant PT as a true frosh.

And Amos and Evege. If McGee is as good as is said, then he could certainly earn playing time as a freshman, particularly if he comes is an early enrollee. Don't forget how much Tressel likes using freshmen DBs on special teams.

I understand what you're saying, and obviously it would be silly to argue that McGee right now is as good as an NFL hall-of-famer. But if you're going to compare a young player to anybody, you essentially have to compare him to players that everyone is familiar with, if you want people to know what you're talking about. And that pretty much means you'll be comparing him to players who have achieved a lot. So sure, compare him to a hall-of-famer, and hopefully people will realize that the comparison is one of style and relative skill-set, and that you're not saying that a high schooler is at the level of a hall-of-famer right now.

Good call. I knew I was forgetting someone. I do think that McGee and Barnett (especially if they enroll early) will be able to give guys like Evege, Scott, Howard, etc. a good run for their money as far as the depth chart is concerned and one has a good chance to be the 3rd or 4th CB as a freshman, similar to how Macolm Jenkins did.

Definitely should not forget about Amos.

I think he will make a serious contribution this year as well. A big corner with great speed, so far just been hampered by superior/experienced talent and most recently injuries.

The way things appear to be shaping up.. CB is wide open for 2009..

Chekwa and Amos would appear to be the likely pair to take over.. since they both have some experience.. but really, if Im a CB like McGee, Im thinking I can jump right into the mix of things my first yr.. at least battle for a nickel or two deep position with guys who have no experience like James Scott, Donnie Evege, Travis Howard, and whoever else fills out the 09 DB class..

UNC has offered.....taking Brandon's total scholarship offers up to 32. Looking for playing time, stability of program and good coaching staff in the colleges that have offered. Says that he is contemplating graduating early, in which case he will make a decision by Dec, otherwise it won't be until Signing Day.

Why? Nothing has changed with regards to his recruitment...everything is status quo and OSU is in great shape. I wouldn't start worrying about McGee too much because he doesn't plan to decide any time soon and you are going to give yourself 8 months of agita...

But thats what Buckeye fans do!!!

The interview Bill Greene did with him and the other Florida kids will stay fresh in my mind for a long time. The OSU staff just has a very good radar when it comes to good kids (at least percentage-wise...lol)

McGee seems to be the only one of the Florida guys to have calmed down after his visit. Berry, Emilien, Carter, and Marc have all said numerous times that tOSU is their clear leader and have cited what a great experience they had at the spring game. If/when we get Berry, Hyde, Carter, and Emilien(and Marc if he ever gets an offer) to commit I think we'll be the clear leader for his services but until then I think he really is wide open.
