'09 FL DB Brandon McGee (Miami-FL Verbal)

If this were posted (say) on the Florida Scout site, written by one of their chief recruiting analysts (like Jardy is to BuckeyeSports.com) then I think we would be hearing the opposite line about the lack of any mention of schools other than Florida.

Jardy is not a recruiting analyst. He is just a writer that does updates on recruits with an occasional summary....and has made up for his blunder with Pryor

The Ohio State coaching staff is putting plenty of emphasis on recruiting the state of Florida this year. While there are several targets within the borders of the Sunshine State, two players in Brandon McGee and Vlad Emilien could each find their way from Plantation, Fla., to Columbus, Ohio.

From BG....Says he is still wide open, but Ohio State is one of a few standout schools. Talks about his Spring Game visit and how he really enjoyed the players and coaching staff. Talks about the possibility of playing with Jaamal Berry & Vlad Emilien. Compares his game to Asante Samuel.

Something else that I found interesting in the article was how he looks up to Chris Gamble. Says that Chris is one of his favorite Buckeyes to ever play.

That is interesting to me as well, seeing that I think Brandon could be a two-way star. He is electric with the ball in his hands but has great skills to be a corner.

McGee, who threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as Plantation's quarterback Thursday night, is the leader of the pack.

Expected to play cornerback at the next level, he reminds me a lot of former Hurricane Antrel Rolle, displaying the same infectious smile and confidence Rolle once had when he was the leader at South Dade High. McGee told me when I visited Plantation on Wednesday that he grew up a Florida State fan and idolizes Deion Sanders. But he isn't just going to pick the Noles because he likes them.

''I need to find the school that is the best fit for me,'' said McGee, who has schools such as FSU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, LSU, USC, UF, UM, Georgia and Tennessee among his 31 offers. ``I'm still very much wide open and looking for a school with stability and where I could see some early playing time.''

Talks about his interest in a lot of schools, but still maintains that OSU stands out (loved the coaching staff and the atmosphere in Columbus during his visit). Is looking forward to seeing USC and OSU square up later this year. Also talks of the possibility of graduating early and enrolling at the school he chooses by winter.

Seems McGee may be the confusion at DB. We are going to wait for him I think, but certainly want backup plans. We are going to have wait and while I feel good about our chances (and probably even better if/when Berry and Emilien commit), I still like the fact that we have guys like Hunter, Clarke, etc. in the mix. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out...I personally want to see McGee play both ways. He is electric with the ball.

With Hunter, Banks and Clarke as possible corner commits and Corey Brown who is a sure thing to commit, I'm not worried if we lose out on a corner target this year, even a good one who is a top 100 player, but McGee would be a huge addition. I think the recruiting sites like scout and rivals really underrate McGee, I think college coaches view him with a higher regard than is thought. He might be one of the top 2 or 3 corners in the country and could be in the Deion Sanders, Champ Bailey, Adam Jones, Deangelo Hall mold of a player who is electric when he gets the ball and can be a shutdown corner.

I bet this kid is really good in HS, and might be really good in college. But aren't those comparisons a little bold for a 17 year old? Who of importance has he shut down? Not getting down on the kid, just don't see the comparisons... yet
