'08 PA LB Shayne Hale (Pitt signee)

I think Hale is going to end up at DE within a year. It may be a possibility that he plays Mike but when he puts on more weight in college, I just don't see him staying at LB. He is borderline as is at LB right now and I think if he is taught up right at DE, he could definetly be a good one. I know Williams is a good LEO prospect but so is Hale. As far as FB, look for us to take one in '09. Don't forget we have Olsen and DeLande could always play FB. Regardless, Hale is a great Big Speed prospect that I think will make an impact somewhere wherever he goes...I just really think it will be at DE.

Hale reminds me a lot of Mark Johnson when he came to Ohio State. He was huge (6'4" 230) in high school, but still at MLB currently. He actaully is listed as being much heavier now too, maybe 245 iirc. He has had a few injuries and that set him back quite a bit, but the staff seems set with him at MLB, and maybe they see Hale in the same mold?

What are we hearing guys? Do we see him here or at Pitt?

I think the staff dropped the ball on this one and I don't think that happens very often. His Jr. film was off the charts and he seemed to be heading this way until we cooled on him. Hopefully he is like pizza, just heat it back up and it's good to go.

Staff did not drop the ball...as mentioned in this thread many times his junior film did not translate into production on the field during his senior year until the very end of the year. However, I still think he ends up at Pitt with his cousin.

The 6-3, 245-pound Hale has narrowed his choices to Pitt and Ohio State, and could commit to the Panthers early next month while playing in the nationally televised U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
Hale was wooed by the Oakland Zoo in similar fashion to star tailback

LeSean "Shady" McCoy last January. Hale left his courtside seat next to Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt in the first half to stand in the student section, where one handmade sign read, "Shady+Shayne=BCS."

Where McCoy confirmed his choice by checking a blank box next to his name, Hale might have tipped his hand by donning a gold Oakland Zoo T-shirt during a timeout.

decision

If Hale doesn't go to tOSU than Pitt is a good choice for him. It seems he will go to Pitt because Saddler is also going to Pitt. Plus maybe he knows early playing time is in the cards, stays in-state, plays close to home and Pitt beating WV. All these factors seem to add up. But then again, you never know, he might want to play with the best and be with the best. And we know that's tOSU.

Suppose you can't ignore all the press and rumors on this - that the package deal goes down with two hometown players staying Da Burg.

Still, it would one of those rare instances when the wing man's early decision causes the point man in a package to change direction.

This thread is about Shayne Hale...if you have questions regarding why Terrelle Pryor's thread was closed, feel free to PM any member of the BPRT. Same goes for the Jenkins thread. Please don't make us close this one down as well...let's keep the discussion in this thread relevant to OSU's recruitment of Shayne Hale.

Why wouldn't they?

Just my opinion, but it seems like there are way too many rumors out there for him not to have committed. This seems like a similar situation to Mo Wells a few years ago when he silently committed but waited to announce at the AA game.

Normally, coaches like guys to just come out and commit publicly, but it may make sense for Wanny to let him choose the Pitt hat instead of the OSU hat on national TV, just from a PR perspective.
My bad, I should have said how hard will they recruit Hale... his recruitment has been hot-and-cold - its only picked up recently when Hale decided to make his visit.
Hale's recruitment went cold because he failed at DE. He's an excellent MLB (where he's played the 2nd half of the year)
