Ohio State has no idea whether they will lose a scholarship or not because of Oden's early departure from class. Even if we were reduced to 12 for 2008 I still think we would have been okay. I do not think Matta initiated anything with Luke as far as him changing his mind.

With respect, LitlBuck, given that Gene Smith is a former member of the Infractions Committee of the NCAA I think Ohio State has a very good idea about what our scholarship status is. The AD may not want to publicize it (a decision I endorse), but he has a very good idea nonetheless.

His post didn't quote you, and it wasn't immediately after your post.

He only stated that he was "not about to slam" Babbitt for his decision. That doesn't mean he was saying that others had done so.

Best of luck to Luke at Nevada. The comparisons to Fazekas will be inevitable for him there.

From my initial perspective-
It appeared awfully awkward that the post (his) came very shortly after the first post of an alternative view (mine). He doesn't need to be the very next post to make it seem he disagrees with my post.

Please note I did not respond hastily after he clarified himself. I wasn't upset, I was simply defending my approach to the situation. I would not ever chastise a young man for making a decision to choose one place over another, but it is upsetting when that decision affects other people and programs in a negative way (don't confuse negative from neutral). But again, I felt that he read my post then judged my comments incorrectly. Obviously that wasn't the case...

Class of 2008 power forward Luke Babbitt (Reno, Nev./Galena) is probably the highest-rated player coming out of high school that Nevada has ever successfully recruited. Previously an Ohio State verbal commit, Babbitt was also recruited by UCLA, Arizona and Duke, among others. Citing a desire to remain closer to home, Babbitt switched his commitment to Nevada on Monday.

Babbitt is among the top 20 players in the Class of '08. Turning back the clock a bit, Babbitt is reminiscent of Danny Ferry. He is very skilled, has great range and can extend beyond the perimeter, is an excellent passer and is a very good floor leader.

Under Mark Fox, Nevada has become a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament. Babbitt's decision means it will likely remain as one of the high mid-major schools that make the big BCS conference schools cringe on selection Sunday.

Though it's a surprising decision, Babbitt has a chance to really thrive at Nevada.

A reliable source told me that Babbitt's father was trying to get transferred from wherever he works to the Chillicothe location, but his place of employment either refused or could not get it done. Staying true to his word that he wanted to play in front of his family he stayed at Nevada to be able to play in front of his parents. If this is true, you have to admire the kid for keeping his word to his family.

at the elite 24 classic, luke displayed a quiet, fundamental game. plays short but uses the body as a shield. best shooting form of all of the players. though certainly not a slight, his game is not meant for the playground. will be a killer in a deliberate offensive set. he will give nevada 4 years of excellent production.

i know luke babbitt committed to another school; however, i think it is important to continue to post some news on him because he was raised a buckeye fan, because he has family in the area, and because he was a buckeye commit for a brief period. plus, sometimes you never know in the recruiting world. i'm not saying... i'm just saying.

I think with the latest triple homicide at a party with Nevada BBall players and Football players has got to be going through Luke's mind as well as his dad's. I would not be letting my kid go any where near that shady situation.

It is apparent that Nevada has got something going on and it isn't all sports. I would say that Luke's best bet would be to get the hell out of there and come back to CBus.

There is no way that any Matta players are thinking anything but BBall at this time of the year. Message to Luke's dad...You can get the Big Ten Network and watch every game of your boy and with today's technology, I am sure they can set up some video conference or something so you can actually be there virtually.

The player who was involved in the altercation at the "party" was told not to go by the Nevada coach. I do not think we will be seeing Luke at Ohio State.
