07 Recruiting (CBF40's look at our prospects)

On Peake- there really isn't a hold up from what I've been told. Grades weren't mentioned and neither was position. Peake would go to OSU if they offered him as an OL. Wanting to play safety doesn't play a factor if OSU wanted him because he would accept the offer in a heartbeat regardless of position. I guess grades could be an issue but again, that's not what I was told. I like Peake but to be perfectly honest, I like Dailey better. Neither one ends up at OSU imo. Peake to Tennessee and Dailey to PSU as of now.

Exactally, but I wouldnt really call Peake undersized. I think he could easily be weighing 230 by the time his freshmen year.

That's right - it's easy to forget that these guys are 14 months from suiting it up for their first college game.

Both Peake and Hines would also be assets on special teams their first couple of years - look how valuable SirJo has been on ST, even though he may not ever see that much playing time at corner.

Here is my most recent guess that I posted on BN and I added ratings from Scout and Rivals to accompany the list:
Rivals Ratings with projected list:
RB: Brandon Saine 4 star, top 100
RB: Dan Herron 3 star
WR: Taurian Washington 4 star
WR: Aaron Johnson NR
WR: Dane Sazenbacher 3 star
OL: Evan Blankenship NR
OL: Kris O'Dowd/Anthony Davis 4 star, top 100
OL: Nick Claytor 4 star, top 100
DE: Ben Martin 4 star, top 100
DE: Solomon Thomas 4 star
DT: Joeseph Barksdale 5 star, top 100
DT: Antonio Jeremiah 4 star, top 100
LB: Jermale Hines 4 star
LB: Brandon Lindsey NR
DB: Nate Oliver 4 star
DB: Eugene Clifford 4 star, top 100
DB: Donnie Evege 3 star
DB: James Scott 4 star
ATH: Devon Torrence 4 star
ATH: Joe Haden 4 star, top 100
Avg. Star rating: 3.45 or round up to 3.5
Top 100 players: 8
- I think both Clifford and Martin get 5 star ratings and the non-ranked players get pushed up some after commiting. NR players kill the average.
Scout Ratings with Projected List:
RB: Brandon Saine 4 star, top 100
RB: Dan Herron 4 star
WR: Dane Sazenbacher 3 star
WR: Aaron Johnson NR
WR: Taurian Washington 4 star
OL: Evan Blankenship 3 star
OL: Nick Claytor 4 star
OL: Kris O'Dowd/ Anthony Davis 5 star, top 100
DE: Ben Martin 4 star, top 100
DE: Solomon Thomas 4 star
DT: Joeseph Barksdale 4 star
DT: Antonio Jeremiah 4 star
LB: Brandon Lindsey 4 star
LB: Jermale Hines 3 star
DB: Nate Oliver 4 star
DB: Eugene Clifford 4 star
DB: James Scott 3 star
DB: Donnie Evege 3 star
ATH: Devon Torrence 4 star
ATH: Joe Haden 4 star
Top 100 players: 3
Avg. star rating: 3.65 or rounding up 3.7
- A higher star rating but I fully expect the # of top 100 players to improve once Scout gets a list that can be taken seriously.
Combined Rivals and Scout ratings:
Top 100 players: 8
Avg. star rating: 3.6
Total commits: 20

Time for a little update with the recent happenings in terms of committments.

RB's -Well we know have Boom and with Saine already in the bag we are done IMO unless a stud is not afraid of some competition.

1. John Clay - I think he is a longshot and will end up at Wisky, but I would love to land him.

2. Robert Hughes - I think that there is mutual interest, but the staff wants to make a move and not sit around and wait. If he wants to come in and compete for a job, well then he could come here late in the process, but most signs are pointing to ND. He does have a visit planned for December.

3. Morgan Williams - A lot of people love him and have him as the #1 pure tailback in the state. Problem is grades. Lets just hope he can bring them up and get in somewhere. Maybe a MSU, Illinois, or a place like that.

WR's/DB's/S - I think we are looking for guys that fit in the speed category, but sometimes there are guys that you know are slated to be a WR or DB. IMO we will take about 7 or 8 guys that could play WR/DB/S. We already have three in Oliver, Evege and Saine.

1. Eugene Clifford - He is still fighting for the best player in the state with Martin. He isnt getting a whole lot of love nationally from some places. I think he is a five star talent. I think he will play WR or S. I honestly would love to see waht he could do at WR. Most reports right now have him leaning to tOSU in a big way. I look for this one to be over sometime in December.

2. Devon Torrence - He is just another phenomenel athlete from the state. I think the staff was just waiting on him to come to camp and show what he could do. Everyone knows that he is a big buckeye lean and now that he has the offer, it is just a matter of time. I just hope in a selfish way that he decides to come to school b4 deciding on nfl/mlb. He would be a great addition to the football and baseball teams here.

3. James Scott - I love this kid. I have love him ever since I saw his video. He plays way bigger than he looks. We are in really good shape here.

4. Leonard Hankerson - IMO he is the best pure receiver, on this list. I really like his game. There has been talk about him liking us and I hope there is mutual interest. It helps having a strong buckeye presence on the staff, and he will be up for a visit during the season.

5. Joe Haden - I really like Haden. I would love to find a way to get him in this class. He could play either WR/DB. He had a great sparq time at one of the rivals camps. There has been talk that he is warming up to us. I think it will come down to us and Florida. Might also be great to put us in the drivers seat for his brother who would be a great addition to the 08' class. Since the last update UF is now recruiting him as a WR which could put them back on top. He is also friends with Rico McCoy and UT is in his final four.

6. Aaron Johnson - From most reports there is a ton of mutual interest. I for some reason have just not turned the corner on this one yet, maybe from the fact that I think there are better guys on the board.

7. JR Hemmingway - I also like him as a receiver and some say we are in the game, but I just don't see, I think he either ends up at scUM or somewhere in the South.

8. Taruian Washington - From most reports he really struggled at the scUM camp, and there really hasnt been a lot of reports from tOSU camp. Dane S. got an offer b4 him, so we shall see. I think at this point, he is on the backburner, but if he would get an offer, I think he would accept.

OL - I think we will take 3 for sure and an outside chance at 4 if some of the right guys come through. There is no reason to worry here tho, b/c we lead for some studs in the 08 class, so the staff wont be fretting if they can only get 3 and lose out on a couple guys.

1. Nick Claytor - I think he is number one on the board just b/c of our need for T's. He looked very athletic at camp. Right now all reports are pointing to him coming here. I think it is just a matter of him leaving his mom in the South, but he has family here.

2. Anthony Davis - Honestly I wasnt greatly impressed with his film, but I think he has all the tools to be a great lineman and with the right coaching he could be the best in this class when all is said and done. He is from the same high school as Malcolm Jenkins so we should have some pull there. I think it will be hard to overcome Miami or USC tho.

3. Kris O'Dowd - Well everyone knows the story as bigbro has kept us up to date. Lets hope that his official visit goes alongway.

4. Evan Blankenship - He has been to camp last year and this year and has impressed both years. The staff really likes him, and from most reports it is just a matter of time. Probably sometime in August.

DT/DE - I think we could take up to 5. I dont really think that we need 2 DE but if the rights ones come along we will take them, and I would love to put together a class of 3 DT's.

1. Ben Martin - His last update said he was tiring of the recruiting process. I like the fact that ND has already brought in one DE and lead for Tez Wilson. I have always like our chances, just b/c we have JT in our corner. He is clearly a 5 star talent and 1/2 DE in the country. Well H&G gave us a favorable update and yhings are looking good.

2. Joe Barksdale - He is another 5 star talent and from all reports at this time he will be coming our way. He would be a great get after losing the 3 we lose. It will also be fun to watch him play alongside Gholston.

3. Solomon Thomas - Even with the offer out to Martin and not a huge need for DE, the staff offered Thomas after he impressed at camp. I have like Thomas all along and thought that he was worth an offer, but wasnt sure if it would come. There have been some conflicting reports, but eventually I think he will become a buck.

4. Josh Brent - He received an offer about a month ago. The staff made a favorable update on him at camp. Not sure if it will be enough to overcome scUM tho. I would really like to land him tho.

5. Anotonio Jeremiah - He is another great athlete that could end up at DT. I think at times he can play too high, but that his correctable. He is a very good high school wrestler and has great size. With him it is just a matter of getting his academics in line and then he should get an offer IMO.

6. Devon Still - He is a guy that will probably outgrow DE and become a DT. Not sure on our chances, but he has an offer.

7. Derrick Morgan - Same can be said about him as Still above, but he grew up watching the Bucks.

LB's - I think we take 1/2 after last years great class of 5 studs.

1. Brandon Lindsey - He has an offer and from all reports really likes us. He looked very athletic on film and is one to keep an eye on.

2. CJ Peake - I know he is set on playing safety and he very well could get an offer and start off there, but his future his at LB IMO. His coach even told me that in person. I think if he receives an offer he will accept. There has been quite a bit of time since the first camp he worked out at. But he was back in town for the second camp. I just hope that he gets that offer, b/c I really like him. Well looks like grades could be the holdup.

3. Jermale Hines - He is another guy that is an athletic lb built in the mold of Peake. I think he is another one that is a matter of academics and then he should see an offer. He is also from Glenville, so if he gets an offer we all know the drill.

4. Andrew Dailey - Right now I don't think he is high enough on the board to get an offer. I think with a good season he could tho. I like Dailey and he is a very hard nosed player. If us or ND offer he will go to one of those schools if not look for him to end up and PSU. Well it looks like things could heat up for him soon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So after all that it is time for a best guess again:

1. RB - Danny "Boom" Herron
2. RB/WR - Brandon Saine
3. DB - James Scott
4. DB - Devon Torrence
5. WR - Dane Sazenbacher
6. WR/S - Eugene Clifford
7. DB - Donnie Evege
8. S - Nate Oliver
9. OL - Kris O'Dowd
10. OL - Evan Blankenship
11. OL - Nick Claytor
12. DE - Ben Martin
13. DE - Solomon Thomas
14. DT - Joe Barksdale
15. DT - Antonio Jeremiah
16. LB - Branden Lindsey
17. LB - CJ Peake/Hines/Dailey
18. WR - Haden/Hankerson or maybe Aaron Johnson.

-We could possibly pickup another dl.

I'll do mine in order of most likely to commit to least likely.

commits
1. Oliver
2. Saine
3. Evege
4. Herron
5. Sanzenbacher

might as well be commits
6. Torrence
7. Clifford
8. Blankenship
9. Jeremiah

Need more recruiting
10. Barksdale (I understand why Texas fans are happy)
11. Haden
12. Hankerson

after that senior films will be evaluated and more offers will go out at the end of the year to fill this class. Probably one more OL, a DB or two, and of course another DL.

Depending how their visits go:
Anthony Davis
Rob Gronkowski
