07 Recruiting (CBF40's look at our prospects)

My personal feeling is it's going to be much tougher to get Hankerson to leave the state than it would be for Haden. Haden is pretty much dead set on leaving, just a matter of where. Hankerson is close to Miami, and in the end it could be tough to pull him up to Ohio.

I agree, but you want to have some guys with height to cause mismatch problems.

IMO I would love to bring Clifford in as that guy and leave Torrence on D and let Scott and Evege play the corner spots.

If Miami has another season like they had last season the chances of him leaving the state will increase.

Agree, height would be nice, but... OSU didn't use any tall receivers last year, unless you include Roy Hall. A top 3 of Holmes, Ginn, Gonzo (all sub-6 foot) got it done just fine.

Robiskie and Hartline are both near 6-3.

Time for another update with a couple more committments and a better grasp of what some prospects are thinking. I will also take a little look ahead to 08'.

RB's -Well we know have Boom and with Saine already in the bag we are done IMO unless a stud is not afraid of some competition.

1. John Clay - I think he is a longshot and will end up at Wisky, but I would love to land him.

2. Robert Hughes - I think that there is mutual interest, but the staff wants to make a move and not sit around and wait. If he wants to come in and compete for a job, well then he could come here late in the process, but most signs are pointing to ND. He does have a visit planned for December.

WR's/DB's/S - I think we are looking for guys that fit in the speed category, but sometimes there are guys that you know are slated to be a WR or DB. IMO we will take about 7 or 8 guys that could play WR/DB/S. We already have three in Oliver, Evege and Saine.

1. Eugene Clifford - He is still fighting for the best player in the state with Martin. He isnt getting a whole lot of love nationally from some places. I think he is a five star talent. I think he will play WR or S. I honestly would love to see waht he could do at WR. Most reports right now have him leaning to tOSU in a big way. I look for this one to be over sometime in December or maybe even during the season sometime.

2. James Scott - I love this kid. I have love him ever since I saw his video. He plays way bigger than he looks. I think we are still in good shape here.

3. Greg Little - Just recently popped on to our board. He is a very good player, but I think we got to the party a little to late.

4. Leonard Hankerson - I think he is still a Miami lean, and we seem to have guys higher on the board. Not sure of that actual interest here.

OL - I think we will take 2 unless both of Davis and O'Dowd want to come here. No reason to fret over lineman with the way the 08' class is shaping up.

1. Anthony Davis - Honestly I wasnt greatly impressed with his film, but I think he has all the tools to be a great lineman and with the right coaching he could be the best in this class when all is said and done. He is from the same high school as Malcolm Jenkins so we should have some pull there. I think it will be hard to overcome Miami or USC tho.

2. Kris O'Dowd - Well everyone knows the story as bigbro has kept us up to date. Lets hope that his official visit goes alongway.

DT/DE - I think we will take 4.

1. Ben Martin - From all things that have been reported I think we have a slight lead, and I have always felt we will win this one, b/c of JT. I still feel the same way.

2. Joe Barksdale - Well this has been a roller coaster. I think alot of it has had to do with all the reports he has been giving different people. It has seemed that he has had a flavor of the week every other week, but we have been the only constant. I think we win out here too.

3. Solomon Thomas - Just a matter of time as he said he will committ in a couple weeks.

4. Josh Brent - I think he will end up at ILL. There is still a chance tho, if the whole package of him, Hughes and Wilson falls through.

5. Anotonio Jeremiah - Just a matter of getting his test score, then he will get the offer and should accept.

6. Devon Still - He is a guy that will probably outgrow DE and become a DT. Not sure on our chances, but he has an offer.

7. Derrick Morgan - Same can be said about him as Still above, but he grew up watching the Bucks.

LB's - I think we take 1 or even none, with the way the 08' class is shaping up and after last years great class of 5 studs.

1. Brandon Lindsey - He has an offer and from all reports really likes us. He looked very athletic on film and is one to keep an eye on.

2. CJ Peake - I still think he is worthy of an offer, but with his grades I think that is what is holding him back.

3. Jermale Hines - He is another one that Grades are a hold up. I think he will be the one off this list to end up in S&G tho if any of them do.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So after all that it is time for a best guess again:

1. RB - Danny "Boom" Herron
2. RB/WR - Brandon Saine
3. DB - James Scott
4. DB - Devon Torrence
5. WR - Dane Sazenbacher
6. WR/S - Eugene Clifford
7. DB - Donnie Evege
8. S - Nate Oliver
9. OL - Kris O'Dowd
10. OL - Evan Blankenship
11. DE - Ben Martin
12. DE - Solomon Thomas
13. DT - Joe Barksdale
14. DT - Antonio Jeremiah
16. LB - Jermale Hines

For an early look to 08'

As of right now if we take 16 in this class we will be looking at a class of about anywhere from 14-18 for 08'.

Here is how I see it.

Qb's - I think next year is a year we will have to take one.

- The only names I have heard so far are Britt and Pryor(who is an ATH that could play multiple positions).

Rb's - I think with Herron and Saine both coming in and the limited # of ships we will take 1.

- Right now the names that keep popping up are Ashley, Womble, and Haden.

WR's - With a nice haul this year I would say maybe 2 next year

- Some guys with offers and early names are Scott, Sales, and Breaster.

TE - I think with the lose of Frost that we will take one and possibly two.

- I think Brandon Moore is the early favorite for an offer.

OL - Well This is going to be the mother load. From the looks of it we will take 4 with an outside chance at taking 5.

- Brewster, Adams, Long, and Shugarts all have offers. I think the first 3 are buckeye leans and Shugarts will be the hardest to pull out of that group. There is also Zebrie Sanders.

DT's - I think that we will need 2 more here to keep restocking depth if we pull two this year.

- Two names of note right now are Rowell and Comeaux.

DE's - If we bring in both Martin and Thomas this year I think we only need one here next year.

- The only name I have heard right now is Nathan Williams.

LB's - I would think if we get one this year that we would go with 3 or even 4 next year. These guys are just too good to pass up.

- Guys of note are Shayne Hale(Offer), Justin Staples, Devoe Torrence, Michael Zordich, Brandon Beachum,

DB's - I would say if we can bring in Scott in this class we might go with a combo of 3 guys that can play CB/S.

- McCarthy(Offer), Rotell Jenkins, Cissoko, Craig(S/LB), Johnny Adams

K's - I think we will take one with the way Tressell values kicking. We may even try and greyshirt him, to create a little seperation with our kickers now.

- The main name that keeps popping up in Ben Buchanan. I think he is a stud in the making and should end up in this class.

With those numbers that would give us a class of 20. Probably too high. Maybe eliminating a DB and a WR and taking only 3 LB would give us a class of 17. The 08' class is going to be a very high quality class tho.

Just wanted to make a change to this list and add Brent, b/c it looks like he might be moving forward from Illinois, after their debacle against the state university of New Jersey.

1. RB - Danny "Boom" Herron
2. RB/WR - Brandon Saine
3. DB - James Scott
4. DB - Devon Torrence
5. WR - Dane Sazenbacher
6. WR - Taurian Washington
7. WR/S - Eugene Clifford
8. DB - Donnie Evege
9. S - Nate Oliver
10. OL - Kris O'Dowd
11. OL - Evan Blankenship
12. DE - Ben Martin
13. DE - Solomon Thomas
14. DT - Joe Barksdale
15. DT - Josh Brent
16. LB - Jermale Hines

I also think that us being number one is really letting kids take note of us more so than they already are.

On the 07 class-I like the projections
On the 08 class-I would be shocked if an in-state talent the level of Sanders does not get an offer. He is still raw, and would need a RS year to add weight anyway, so the issue of too many guys in one class would not come into play-any of Adams, Brewster, or Long would probably play immediately. FWIW, I have heard that USC has been making inquiries about Sanders-he is big time.
Also, as far as LBs go, Beachum could very well be a power RB, like Beanie, and Zordich would have to be considered a Penn St. lean at this extremely early stage of the game. Jamiihr Williams of Lima Sr. is another LB who could get a lot of early attention.

If the Bucks hit on O'Dowd this year, and make a clean sweep of Adams, Brewster, Long, and Shugarts in 2008, then Sanders might be left out. Of course, landing all five of the aforementioned will not be easy, so there is a good chance that Sanders gets an offer down the road.

This bet is getting closer...could go either way right now.

Well at this point it looks like it will come down to 5 guys and I need three of them.

It will come down to Thomas(already said he will commmitt), Martin(I still like our chances), Clifford(really like our chances now that scUM is out of the picture), Barksdale(weird saga, no idea really, but we have been there all along), and Hines(offed and a done deal, but still needs grades).

I wonder if LJB would still take the bet knowing that I only needed 3 of those 5 guys.

I agree about Sanders, but the staff has said how they like dealing with smaller #'s in terms of o-line and adding 5 in one class would increase that number in a hurry. I still think that Shugarts stays in Texas and we get Sanders, Adams, Long, Brewster. Either way I think we will at least get 4 of them.

As far as LB's I agree about Beachum, but think that he will be better suited for lb.

I disagree about Zordich. I think we could pull a clean sweep on the Mooney kids(if we offer all of them) and suprise everyone.

Also I thought I had Williams name on there. I know about him being from Lima.

I will also have to add Kenny Tate to the next one.

Another question for anyone that might know. I have heard of a Nate Williams from Chargrin Falls(believe same school as Robo) that has visited the first two scUM games this year. Anyone know anything about him or what position. At first I thought it was Nathan Willaims, but he was at our first game against NIU.

Also Ryan Nathan same school as Jahmir Williams(Lima Senior) has been to the first two scUM games. He is a rb transfer from LCC. Not sure on how good he is tho.

Yes, because I think that Barksdale goes elsewhere and that Hines doesn't get offered - if I'm correct, then you really need to go three for three, with only Thomas being a solid lean.

But I hate to be in the position of betting against the Bucks with talents like Barksdale, Clifford, and Martin, so the point is moot. The bet was fun, but honestly I hope that you are correct and that we do sign those three prospects. I'd gladly be wrong on this occasion.

Always having them pessimistic thoughts.

I really think the wildcard is going to be Martin, but I am more confident than I was when it started.

Nathan Williams is a DE/LB that is actually from Miami Trace and is very, very tough. There is a thread on him. He has visited scUM twice but everyone from Trace told me he is a big Buckeye fan. Plus, the coaches were showing big love at the camp(he went to the same camp as me). Everyone from Trace expects both OSU and scUM to offer and for Nathan to become a Buckeye. I can't wait until his film comes out because he will quickly go to a top 100 player nationally imo.
