'07 OH DE Ben Martin (Tennessee signee)

Woody did OK down here in the 60s and 70s, but most of the folks still remember when Earl Bruce went off on a recruit that decided to drop out of OSU and come back home. Earl came out with something like, "I don't know what's wrong with Cincinnati kids, all they want to do is watch tv and hang out with their high school friends." Earl was both right and wrong and the Bucks didn't get a kid out of here for some time.
I assume the recruit you mentioned here is Joe Apke (former center at Moeller)? I remember that he transferred to UC but I also remember that fellow Moeller O-Line recruit Joe Lukens (one year older) stayed and ended up being a four-year starter for us. It's a shame, but it seems to me that they just used Bruce's words as an excuse to stiff OSU in favor of the school they loved before and after and still love: Notre Dame.

It's been a while, but I'm sure it wasn't Apke... Moe centers have done well at OSU, Lukens and Jack Thrush come to mind. I think it was a kid from Withrow or Woodward.

That says it all. He'd rather be coached by guys like Phil Fulmer and Charlie Weis than Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer. I don't want recruits like that.

Sure. If any of these kids changes his mind before NLOID and decides to come to Columbus, all of you knuckleheads will be lining to proclaim the love.

The kids made choices for them...nothing more.

Its time to tighten down around here...the next poster to crack on a kid gets a free vacation.

This garbage is old.

Well, not to be a smartalec but you sorta' agreed with my post. And I don't think I bashed him. Just some sour grapes, I guess.

Agree with what? Big losses for sure...but we will not bash kids on this site...is that plain enough for you to understand?

If you have anything further...use PMs.

Back to Ben.

Something must have happened in the end that Ben absolutely HATED about OSU. To not even finish second behind Tennessee after everyone had him pegged to OSU is unreal. I am really curious to see what drastically changed in the end...if you have any info H&G, please clue us in.

It's a shame, and I mean a damn shame that grad21 has to post something like this. Alot of folks need to take a good look at themselves. Ben Martin is obviously a hot commodity in recruiting circles, and also a player that we all wished we would have landed. We didn't, so let's move on. Ben did what was right for him, and for anyone to "blame" ANYONE here for misleading them is one of the most pathetic things I've ever read in my life. If I came on here and said that I had some "real good" info that Ben was coming to TOSU right after I posted in another forum that I was listening to "Whip It" from Devo, having a fired bologna sandwich for lunch, A Gordita at Taco Bell for dinner, That Al Gore invented the "Hummer" and that neither of the Bush twins were hot, would you hold my assessment against me?

Nobody pays a nickel to hang out here. "C -Dog" the ADM's and the MODS go above and beyond to make this a cool place to hang out. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," but sure as hell don't TRY to break it.

Peace.

Well said woodyworshiper...

Totally agree with 21...we don't know ALL of the facts, only what we have been told or what we have heard. So the next person to go after Ben is outta here.
