'07 OH DE Ben Martin (Tennessee signee)

A Volunteers perspective

Well first and formost i would like to say good luck this Thursday, it'll be a good game. I have taken time(prob. too much) reading your site. Seeing your thoughts on certain issues, and one that I came across was very interesting. BEN MARTIN! I know 90% of you dont understand why this kid chose VOL NATION, and I have seen some very negative and immature posts, not by all but by some. I also seen remarks like tennessee is 6th best SEC school why would he not choose FL if he was going to play in the SEC. Need I remind you that we are 2cd for putting players in the NFL, we are one of the most storied colleges in america(Not say that your not, bc you are by far one of the most storied) We have 107,000 week in and week out, ORANGE, We have had the some of the best defense in college football every year other then last year. Hell when we went 5-6(which i still dream about) we had the #2 defense in the nation. Their are many reason why this kid chose Tennessee, but to say you hope he does bad, he gets injured and what not is crazy, yall should hope nothing but the best for this kid(Not everyone was saying that but i read quite a few along them lines) Im hope this doesnt offend anyone and sorry im posting so late about this topic but i just read this and was quite disappointed. But anyways good luck to yall on THURS and GO VOLS

No one on this site with half a brain hopes for him to get injured or do bad. Unfortunately, some of our posters, like everywhere else, don't have half a brain. Welcome aboard and good luck this week. Hoping for a great game...

Well, maybe you saw some negative posts here, but.... We always delete such posts, and often give a warning to the person who made the post. We run a clean site, and don't bash recruits, even if they choose to attend another school.

Anyway, welcome to The Planet, and enjoy your stay.

Heck T-Vol.......I don't think we bashed Mr. Martin, as the Mods are pretty swift to curtail that kind of trash, but the "Vol Nation" and Phat Phil are certainly fair game.

Most of us 'homies' feel that all the good kids need to stay within the Ohio boundaries anyway, and when one strays, it makes us mad/angry/upset/unreasonable. Not at the kid, but at the school for inducing them to stray.

Many of us remember the Munoz girl going to Tennessee, and then her brother following her, which OSU faithful had penciled in as the LT for the next four years. That was upsetting (because Tennessee stole a march on our recruiters?). So when another Cincy guy heads to Tenn, then of course all the above comes into play. (it should be noted that Michelle Munoz came back to Ohio and OHio State, and played very well for our B-ball team. Michael Munoz, stayed at Tenn, and had physical problems ((knees)), and finished out as a All-SEC player, but not sure about the pros).

Tennesses is a great program, but it's in the SEC, and we Big Tenners are getting tired hearing about the SEC. Florida waxed us, for sure, but two of our lesser programs beat two high-flying SECers during the same bowl season, so go figure. (We didn't match #2 vs #2, but our #3 vs. your #2, etc). I'd like to experience the 'flotilla' and the 107,000 in orange, it'd probably be a great experience.

:gobucks3: :gobucks4: :banger: PS, look at the Notre Dame section, you will see that you're not exclusive........

Martin hurt in Vols' scrimmage
Sunday, August 19, 2007

KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee defensive end Ben Martin injured his left knee and will be further examined to determine the extent of the injury.

Martin, a freshman from Cincinnati, hurt the knee while working with the second-team defense during the Vols' scrimmage Saturday night. Coach Phillip Fulmer and defensive coordinator John Chavis said the severity of the injury is unknown.

After lying on the grass for around 10 minutes, Martin was helped off the field by a few trainers but was unable to put any weight on the left leg. He spent the rest of the scrimmage sitting on a training table, holding crutches, with an ice pack on the left knee.

"I'm obviously real concerned about Ben Martin," Fulmer said. "He is a heck of a young prospect, and I would hate to see him out for any length of time."

Said Chavis: "I'm not going to speculate. We will just have to wait and see what happens."

Martin stood out in early practices as a pass-rushing specialist and has been projected to play a significant role in the defense, especially during third-down situations.
